Awen circled the top of the lake's surface slowly on her back. The day had been a very long one and many things were on her mind. THe foremost probably being Sabin's special islander experiment. The idea, in her mind, was incredibly interesting and she puzzled what this meant. Had Sabin done what he told her he might, had he made a serum from his pet's DNA? Or was he mimicing what he did to the poor cat to Richard?
The manta gazed casually to the side to see one of the tagged turky wandering near the shore in the dusk light. The poor little things, awaiting their demize. Such a neat idea though, great prank from the labs, and a lot of islanders will probably be able to appreciate hunting their own food these days.
Lost in thought Awen turned her attention to the ever darkening night sky. It was so beautiful out here....

Inspiration was a fickle b***h, and being sans typewriter wasn't helping things for Sid. He'd made a few awkward attempts at jotting down notes, but the more he thought about each idea, the less he felt he could flesh it out into a full play. Why had he ever agreed to that? Because he was a writer... He probably should have mentioned than in his entire career he'd only actually finished one book.
After mulling over his options and drinking a bit, he was left feeling so frustrated and restless that he had to get out. Pacing the floor didn't help, not when the slapping sound his feet made kept boring into his brain. So, grabbing the trunks that were as sloppily altered as the rest of his clothes, Sid set out for the lake. It was blissfully dark, and he was just drunk enough to feel confident that if there were any psycho feral islanders about, they'd probably already glutted themselves on all the damn turkeys wandering around. A sudden gobble somewhere in the jungle still made him jump.
Once he reached the lake he made a lot of noise plowing through the shallow water. He didn't expect anyone to be out to complain- much less notice the faint light those certain scales gave off. He still didn't understand how that worked.

Awen soon noticed the sound of the splashing coming into the lake, and straightened to a treading water type position so she could see better. The first thing she noticed was a faint glow coming from between the water splashes and she sunk back down under the water.
Blinking her eyes so her vision would turn from blurry to clear she concentrated on the being intruding upon her blissful silence. Swiming a little closer she noticed between the patches of glowing and grey-black there was faint peach tones and the girl smiled. It was just another islander, but who?
Awen resurfaced suddenly quite close to the poor writer, but made sure not to be directly infront. She was off to his left a fair ways as she waved slightly. "Hello there, out for a swim?"

Sid turned and stared at the girl for a moment. As many times as he'd run into people while under the influence of something, he had to wonder if maybe he'd met her before and had forgotten about it. Nah, he would have remembered the hair... and the horn things.
"Looks that way," he said, glancing down at his arms as he began to tread water.

She seemed to study him a little closely before shrugging and flipping back up to her back. "More and more aquatics every day..." She mumbled to herself.
Honestly, how many were there since she'd been under that she no longer knew? There were at least two more that Sabin hadn't told her about... Not that it mattered much, Awen was just curious to see how full the lake would get by the end of this... if there was an end of this.
"Your glowy scales are kind of neat. My name's Awen, by the way."

"Thanks, I guess..." They always had to mention the scales. "Name's Sid."
He was willing to risk making an a** of himself by saying, "Haven't seen you around before."

"Been a little under the weather.... I was taken to the labs for... about three-ish months or so." She shrugged her shoulders and stared up to the sky.
"I was actually just going to say the same thing to you. By the looks of you, you can't be new anyway, do you come to the lake often? Maybe we just miss eachother or something." She grinned a little and glanced over to the strange fish man. "Probably would have recognised you otherwise."

Feeling somewhat relieved the teeth weren't an issue, Sid relaxed a little. He began to swim in slow circles, keep a respectable (or safe) distance between them as he did. Keeping still, he found, led to strange impulses... impulses he tried not to think much about at the moment.
"Three months, huh..." He turned and swam back. "Sounds like more than a little under the weather... As for me? This is a new thing..."

"Oh!" Awen nodded slightly doing her own little laps, noticing the distance and respecting it. "So you've just recently changed? A pretty big step for the first, let me tell you. From what I've seen anyway."
Shaking her head a little she smiled. "And in all honesty I'm not sure yet what happened to me. All I know is I passed out and woke up in the labs a couple times, vaguely, then woke up the last time in my new duplex, which ends up being months after my last memory. Not a terribly big deal, just kind of a....break from the island you could say?"

"Nah, this wasn't the first," he said, propelling himself backwards with his tail. "I wasn't so, uh, scaly before..." He shouldn't have had to search for the word, but his mind wasn't exactly clear.
"What do you mean, new duplex? They move someone else in the old one while you were away?"

"Ah, alright." She stretched a little bit as she bobbed back and forth. "Um, just it's a duplex that's connected to the lake. Most of it is full of water. I don't know if anyone's moved into my old one yet or no actually.... but my new one is just better suited for me these days."
Awen could just imagine what her reaction would have been if they had her placed in the special duplex right when she came to the island. That would have made her freak out.

"Oh, I get it... One of those." Yet another things of the list Sid would likely have to worry about in the future. "It's true about the air thing, isn't it? That when it's over you're stuck?"
How many times, and to how many different people, had he asked that question? Enough that he should have known he was ********. Maybe it wasn't his memory, maybe he just kept hoping to be proven wrong.

Awen shook her head and sighed. "To be entirely honest, I don't know for sure. I've been worrying about that since my second change, I think, maybe my first at times." Biting her lip she wondered and then her tone became more cheery. "But I don't think it's true. The labs are quite advanced, and every day they're learning more and more things about the serums. I'm sure it will be worked out that no one will be stuck only breathing through their gills. After all, I'm the first aquatic on the island," so Sabin had said, "and I'm not stuck."

"Yeah, but are you, uh... finished?" From where he was floating, she seemed pretty far along. And she had hair, which gave him a little bit of hope for the future. That reminded him, "And do you still have legs?"

She sighed and shook her head slowly. "Sadly enough, no I'm not finished. One more to go, from what I've seen of other people's transformations."
The manta girl flipped back onto her back and kicked a flipper up out of the water and holding it there so Sid can see what more or less passes for a normal leg, Awen hoped would put the man at some ease. "Two strong and healthy legs actually." Lowering her leg back into the water she sighed. "I head Alec lost his already though, and he showed up awhile after me. So... I guess it depends on the person, the serum?"
