~Erik 50%~

Today had been his day. Although it might've seemed selfish to someone else, Erik had taken a 'day off' of sorts: no conversations with people, no runs through the jungle or on the beach, just nothing but lazing around in his duplex or the Entertainment Room. Today, it would seem, that his previous antisocial personality had returned.

As the sun started to set, Erik decided that he should at least go outside once that day. After gathering a flaslight and a can of Pepsi, he traveled along the beach until he found a good spot to sit down. By the time he did reach his spot, the sun had set and the full moon and all the stars were out. Throughout the entire time he had been on island, Erik had never really taken the time to notice how beautiful the night sky was here. Gazing up at the sky, Erik was oblivious to everything around him.

The extreme pain of the transformation that had happened two days ago still had Kate shaken up. She had been told that it would certainly be painful, but she had never imagined it to be this horrible. This was her first change, and it had already hurt so badly... What would happen when the next change comes?

Giving a sigh, she touched the back of her hand, and felt the fur that had started to grow. In addition to that, her eye-sight, although starting to get better, is turning her world of colors into something less... Something that made everything seemed less colorful.

Shaking her head, Kate continued down the seemingly never ending beach, walking barefooted on the sand. Looking around for some place to rest, she spotted someone she don't remember seeing before, but found his face to be a familiar looking one.

'My memory still fails me,' She thought to herself as she approached the male, standing beside him.

"May... I join you?"

Erik's train of thought was immediately brought to a halt. Looking up from where he was sitting, he saw a girl about his age standing next to him. He also noticed that she changed. 'Well, at least I won't have to break the news to her.' he thought.

"Oh, sure, take a seat." His tail then moved out of the way to make room for her. There was a certain tone in Erik's voice that showed he was depressed. Lately, Erik had been thinking about a lot of things, most of which dealed with his family back home in Illinois. While at first he was able shrug off such negative thoughts, it was now eating him up inside and he knew why...he missed his family. Erik never would've thought he'd missed the life where he was all alone, but now he longed to go home in Illinois and be with his family again.

Getting his mind back to the situation at hand, Erik extended his furry, paw-padded hand and introduced himself. "I'm Erik."

Kate managed a smile before sitting down beside the male, hugging her legs up to her chest. She looked at the boy next to her, staying silent for a moment. He had changed... Even more than she did. After all, he has a tail while hers was just starting to grow.

Taking the hand gratefully, she replied, "I'm Wei Fang, but please call me Kate..." She gave the hand a firm shake, not really used to introducing herself in this manner. There was a nice feel to the whole hand shake though, as if it's the start of something.

Although not in a really cheery mood, Erik managed to return her smile before looking back up at the night sky. A few moments later, he unknowingly began to speak his mind. "So beautiful...." Erik then turned his head towards Kate and he then realized what he did. "...the stars, I mean." He then gave a nervous, embarassed laugh. He hoped she hadn't misinterpreted what he said, yet...part of him hoped she did.

"Huh?" The girl replied, as part of her was actually day-dreaming. Although she had heard what Erik had said, she chose to laugh it off, "It's alright..."

Nodding to give her agreement a second later, Kate looked up to the stars with a longing glance, "I never saw this many stars in the sky before. Back from where I came from, the city was so bright that you're lucky if you even see a star or two at night..."

"Sounds like you came from a big city, where are you from?" From Kate's description, he was sure she was from a city. Erik couldn't stand being in cities: they're too crowded and noisy for him.

Erik felt his tail brush up against something hard as he leaned backwards. Looking over his shoulder, he saw it was the can of pepsi he brought with him to the beach. Feeling thirsty, grabbed the can and opened it, with a little difficulty due to his claws. Erik was about to take a sip when decided to act courteous and asked Kate, holding the can of soda out to her "Do you want some?"

"No, I'm fine... I took a bite and a drink before I came." Kate smiled, shaking her head as she turned to face Erik. She looked back to the sky, and thought back to her country. Some place she had never thought she would miss this badly.

"You're right, I came from a big city." Kate laughed softly, "Let's see... It's an island city, meaning that the entire island is mainly made up of the whole city area. We have a small forest smack in the middle of the city, but that's what left of its forests. Have you heard of a place called Singapore?"

"Singapore...Singapore..." Erik knew heard about that country, he just coudln't remeber where it was. He placed a claw on his chin and thought for a moment before he snapped his fingers as he remembered. "Oh yeah, it's in Malaysia, right?"

Taking a sip of soda, Erik looked at Kate, examining her changes, trying to figure out what she was becoming. The pointed ears and fur ((and tail?)) rung a bell, but he wasn't completely sure. His curiosity got the better of him, so he asked her "So Kate, do you know what you're turning into yet?".

"You're only half right," Kate replied with a laugh. She was used to people saying that Singapore's in Malaysia, because the two countries are just side by side. "Singapore was part of Malaysia, a long time ago... Now it's just a part of history. The truth is that Singapore is an independent country, but it lies just at the tip of Malaysia!"

Looking at her now furry hands, Kate gave a shrug, "I'm not completely sure yet... Call it a hunch, but I think I'm turning into some kind of a dog. The tail, the fur, the urge to eat more meat... To run about, playing in the great outdoors... I used to hate doing outdoor activities."

Turning to examine Erik, she gave a curious blink, "How about you?"

"Me? Well, I was too impatient and couldn't stand the wait, so I called the labs and asked. Turns out that I lucked out and got a fox, which I don't think is too bad. From the looks of it, it looks you like you got a dog too." Erik had warm smile on his face as he shifted postions, moving from sitting indian style to laying down with his head against a tree.

His smile faded into a blank expression, his face stoic, showing no emotion at all. Erik remained still like that for a few minutes before turining to Kate. "What do you think they do all day?" He turned his gaze towards the labs at the foot the mountain. "The people at the labs, what do you suppose they do when they're off-duty?"

"I love foxes," Dragain replied with a soft smile, "I've always thought that they are intelligent animals... My favourite animals are dogs, but I never would had thought that I might turn into one." She glanced down at her furry arms.

She looked up and followed Erik's glace. She gave a shrug, "I don't know... They are humans too, so I suppose they need eat, sleep, work and play as much as us. However, they must be pretty heartless to do all these things to people... Like us."

Erik chuckled and said "Eh, this place this crazy, you never know what you're going to turn into. When I first came here and found out about what was really going on, I spent two weeks worrying that I was going to turn into a cockroach....*blech* those things are nasty!" He then made a funny gagging face that looked as if he'd seen one of those ugly bugs.

As Kate looked at her arms, Erik moved his hand on top of one of hers. "If you don't mind saying, your changes actually look pretty nice." He paused for a moment, gauging her reaction and hoping she'd take the compliment. After all, she was quite pretty. Erik let a chuckle before saying "Sometimes I feel like the serum gets the better half of me."

"I think that I'll rather just drop dead than turn into a cockroach, or any other kind of insects. I really can't stand them... I guess it's a phobia." Kate replied with a shake of her head, "I've never been too fond of creepy crawlies. Just the thought of one coming near me is horrible."

Kate blushed, not used to being touched by the opposite gender. Removing her hand and hoping that Erik do not see that as being rude, she turned to look at him with a grin.

"You are looking pretty good yourself."

"I know what you mean, the things that are really gross about them are the hair and crazy eyes. For some reason, they're just so nasty." A shiver ran down his spine as he recalled the time first time he met F. He was a nice guy, but it was hard to look at him for so long without feeling a little uncomfortable. "The only bugs that I do like are butterflies and moths, mostly because they can't bite or sting you, and they have some neat colors."

Erik's heart sunk a little when Kate pulled her hand away, and his ears flattening against his head showed it. Why was it that this sort of thing always happened to him with girls? Sure, he could have a nice conversation with them, or do something fun, but he always messed up when came to getting close to them. Even when it came to something as simple as trying to hold a girl's hand, he would somehow goof up and things would go wrong, usually in the form of a girl rejecting him. This sort of thing had happened many times to him and as a result, he became more and more antisocial, sealing himself off from other people, just not wanting to be hurt again.

Letting out a sigh, Erik said "Sorry about that...", and moved his hand back to his side. His tail then curled up around him. Kate's comment was slightly reassuring and forced a smirk out of him, but it was obviously hollow, with only a small amount of truth to it. To him it seemed, she was just saying it to be nice and didn't really mean it.
