The golden mare hummed a little tune as she trotted along the frosty ground, eyes closed with content. Everything had suddenly become so.. simple. It was almost unrealistic, how simple it had become. Almost. Bairn.. Where was he? Bright green eyes opened slowly, and her head was quickly turned down, to avoid the crisp Autumn light. Her shaggy mane twitched slightly, as her breath came out in smokey puffs. Winter was coming, and so was her winter coat.

But that wasn't important.. She wanted to see Bairn again. Placidly trotting about, she neared where Bairn and her had met last time.

The young mountain lion wandered away from the place he dared call home, the place where his bonded stallion found him and saved his life. He hadn't left that place since that one fateful day and now seemed like a good time to explore again. A good time to feel like a lion once more...well except for the fact that he was a vegitarian, promised to the fox colored mare that he wouldn't eat anymore meat.

Bae not only wanted to feel like he did before Bairn found him, but that stallion went missing just a few days ago and Mahiri..who the lion figured was Bairn's mother was getting worried about her son-not telling anyone where he was and all. It was up to the poor little creature to find this oh-so loveable stallion. He wondered where he could have run off too, or rather why he did what he did. Something was bothering him, Bae could feel it...it was that bond that 'bonded creatures' were supposed to have. Bairn was dealing with something that well...was hard to deal with at the moment.

So many thoughts ran through Bae's head as he searched for the stallion that coat's was colored exactly like his. The main one was who. Who does he ask if he ran into someone? How many others knew Bairn? And which one of them knew where he was? Gosh, this was going to be harder then it seemed.

Her brown hooves came to a rest in a frost covered place.. Where they had... Decided it would be best if they loved each other. A little smile came across her face, and memories of that night, that wasn't so long ago, coursed through her. It left such a warm, warm feeling in her, shooing away the morning's frosty chill.

The event on that fateful day had even sparked a few thoughts of her.. starting a family. It would be.. sweet. And it was her duty, anyways, as a female, right? But the more she thought about it.. the more she doubted. She wouldn't be a good mother.. And the thoughts of things growing inside her gave her the willies.

The small lion pawed at the ground, he had finally come too far from the teepee...to far he had no idea where he was anymore. Looking around frantically for anyone...or something that could help him get on the right track again, Bae turned sharply in a random direction.

And he came upon a very deep-in-thought looking mare.

The mare just a few feet in front of him was very pretty, she seemed very happy at that moment as well. Her coat was a beautiful shade of gold and the mountain lion couldn't help but find himself staring for a moment until he tore his eyes away. Maybe this mare knew something about the stallion he was looking for.

Using his dark brown dipped paws, he tried to get the female's attention by clawing at the ground. Bae didn't speak to someone...especially if the someone was much larger then he was....until they spoke first.

Scraping.. What was that? Astia was pulled away from her little bubble of worry by that scraping sound. Blinking, the golden mare looked down and saw.. a mountain lion.

"Oh.. Oh my." The feline looked, somehow, familiar to her, but she wasn't really looking at it's markings. More like it's sharp claws. Tossing her head up in alarm, Astia skipped back a step, as the instinctual, horrible feeling of being prey blossomed inside her chest. It wasn't very big, but still intimidating. A predator. Was she.. it's prey?

Could it even speak? The quaking horse ventured out, as boldly as she could, "Shoo! Go away.. please?"

The mountain lion stared up at the golden mare with a rather content look on his face. There was no intent on hurting the poor creature in any way...no that was all thanks to Bairn who turned his life around. After the bold stallion saved him from that hungry bird, Bae vowed never to touch another living animal again. And the mare seemed scared, which made the mountain lion almost laugh...it was silly to be scared of the likes of him.

And the words she spoke? Honestly, this certain mare thought she was going to be lunch. Shaking his head slowly, the mountain lion only continued to stare at Astia until he finally decided to speak. It wasn't like to him to talk to others usually...unless he knew them well or if Bairn knew them well.

"Bairn?" Was all he said.

"Bairn?"

The mare stopped her incoherant babbling at that word, and looked at the big cat, eyes wide. "I'm sorry... What?" Had it even said anything..? It sure seemed like it, she saw his lips move.

Astia continued. "Did you say... Bairn?" Surely she must have been mistaken, though. Bairn would never associate himself with a predator...would he? "Did you mean Bairn, as in the stallion?" Her eyes took on a hopeful gleam. "Do you know him? Do you know where he is?"

Bae grinned smugishly. Judging by the mare's reaction, she was either very confused at the question or she knew him well. Perhaps this was...? No, this wasn't her, she didn't seem like his 'master's' type. Oh, well there was that tiny fact that Bairn refused to describe her to anyone.

He nodded at the golden mare still wearing that same smug look. That's what he said, 'Bairn'. Was she stupid? Haha, silly stupid mares...this couldn't be the one that his bonded had fallen for.

Deciding that it was best to strike up a conversation with her instead of just sitting there and staring, the mountain lion licked his lips and then spoke, "Of cource I said Bairn as in the stallion." His voice was sarcastic, much like Bairn's was when asked a stupid question. "And yes, I know him. I'm his familiar. But what's it to you anyways, mare?"

Then her last question ran through his head, and Bae sighed. That was the exact reason why he was out alone. He had no idea where his 'best friend' was. "Sorry, I can't find him. I'm looking for someone who might know though. Why? What's it to you?"

((Haha, don't worry about it! XD))

Astia blinked once. So it could talk... Not that it was very nice. Frowning slightly, she replied, "What's it to me? I'm his mate. You would know that if you really were his familiar." The mare looked back at the lion, wearing the same smug look. Surely Bairn wouldn't have taken on a familiar. Not one that was so smug, anyways. Well, Bairn was a bit smug himself, sometimes.

Tia nodded slightly, a bit dissapointed. "Well, he has to be somewhere. But honestly, where in the world could that stallion be? Did he mention anything to you when you last saw him?" She huffed, getting frustrated. "Because I'm his mate, damnit! I need to know where he is."

Mate? No, this one couldn't be his mate...she didn't seem 'Bairn' enough..."Haha, silly mare what are you talking about? Mate? You're not her. Bairn would never love the likes of you." And she was tough, or so she acted like it. Definitely a stubborn mare, but not Bairn's Astia. Sighing, the mountain lion could tell that she was a bit confused, and he knew why.

"If you're wondering why I'm standing here telling you that I'm Bairn's familiar...there is a good reason." Bae's voice softed, much like Bairn's did when talking about his family or even Astia. "I was dying of hunger one day and decided to attack a human...which turned out to be Bairn's human. Out of anger he tried to kill me and left me to die until a rather large bird of some sort was going to eat my dying corpse. Bairn couldn't let that happen so him and Mahiri took me in and Mahiri almost forced us to be bonded. 'It's fate' She kept saying." The mountain lion now forced a smile onto his face, remembering that day wasn't exactly pleasent, he almost died that day...but if this really was Astia, he didn't mind talking to her.

Any mare that had the love of a stallion like Bairn was definitely a wonder mare.

"I have no idea. Mahiri told me to go look for him, he hasn't been back at the teepee for erm...a few weeks now." Bae paused for a moment, trying to remember the last thing Bairn said to him. 'Be calm, little one.' No, that wasn't it...something about traveling, right? They had run into Bairn's sister Artemis and after that, went their seperate ways on the stallion's wish. Trying his best to remember, the mountain lion began speaking, "'Little one...go home. I want to leave for a while, to figure something out.' That's the last thing he said to me." Bae finally looked over at the mare and shrugged. "If you're his mate, shouldn't you know where he is? I mean, I should to but their is a darn good reason why I don't."

"Bairn doesn't like to be found. He comes to you."

Astia's face twisted up in frustration as she glared at the lion. "Of course I'm his mate! He does love me, though I can't see how he would put up with you." Lord, what a rude little pest. "And who would you be, anyways? If vermin even have names." She retorted, deeply offended by his assumption.

"A two legger? Idiot." Her green eyes softened slightly though, as she listened to his story. "Well... I could certainly see Mahiri doing that." Tia's brief meeting with Bairn's mother had been... less then pleasant. Mahiri seemed nice enough, though. Very...eager.

"A few weeks?" The mare moaned, it had seemed like only a few days, last she saw him! "Figure something out..?" What if he was thinking about whehter he really wanted a mate or something? No, no, she had to stay positive.. Positive. Right. Okay. "That's the thing. I haven't seen him in a while... He just upped and dissapeared on me. If I knew, I wouldn't be asking you."

"He puts up with me because, I don't know if you've noticed this, but we're very much like, him and I." The mountain lion spoke with a very know-it-all tone. "The name's Bae. So if you really Astia, hmmm...." He sat there staring at the mare...what could she do to prove to him that she was who she said he was. "I know. If you're his mate...what is the name of his younger sister? The one that no one ever sees? If you know Bairn, he has spoken about her many times."

"Hey! I was hungry! What do you expect a carnivore to do when it's hungry? Haha, glad I didn't attack Mahiri or Bairn himself, actually." Bae stopped one of his paws on the ground, he wasn't going to let this mare push him around. He may be much smaller, but he hated it when others thought they were tougher. "Haha, definitely Mahiri. I don't know...because of her our relationship had gone from mountain lion and stallion to friends. She does crazy things, that mare."

And then Bae nodded slowly, feeling the saddness that had come over this mare and him as well. It didn't seem like that long, but he had been about 2 or 3, if his memory served him right. "Yup, figure something out. I think it had to do with a family...and of cource himself. Bairn wants to know where he fits it. Well, sorry...he's a strange stallion for sure. If we want to know where he is, we'll have to look together. He could be anywhere." Oh, the joys of spending quality time with this mare, wonderful.

"Quick question, though. If you are Astia...why'd you pick Bairn? You could have done much better."
