So I learned a while back talking about the voting that just passed and measure 43 (in Oregon) about abortion. They law (that didn't pass) stated that girls under the age of 17 had to notify their parents of their abortion. I'm not sure if it included their permission or not, but that’s the base of it.

So while we were talking about abortion it leads to rape witch leads to 'what is the legal age for sex'. Unknown to myself it varies from state to state. In Oregon its 18 when your an adult and 16 other places and so forth.

Well I found out in some states they have a legal sex age for homosexuals and one for heterosexuals. I found that quite interesting. For heterosexuals it was 18 and for homosexuals it was 13.

My friend and I thought the possible reason for that is because two boys or two girls can't reproduce at such an age but a heterosexual couple can.

Quite interesting. Comments, responses, discussion?

What about in your state?

Well, I know in Indiana and old law is still on the books which forbids a**l and oral sex. That pretty well kills most homosexual love practices. Though obviously it's not enforced.

The only thing I can think of for the extremely young age limit, may be that the particular area was created by a group of greco-child lovers. This was a practice in Ancient Greece, as well as Rome for a time, and the muslim world, were male teachers would have relations with their favorite young male student. Or other types of superiors would take one of the children for a lover.

Though socrates is known for having said "A man is never so beautiful as when he he is a boy and a man, when his beard is but just begining" though socrates objected that, while he may have slept in the same bed as his favorite male students, it was a test of his will, as he considered the self sacrifice of not indulging brought him wisdom, even if the boy asked for it. That's the only thing I could think of, as 13 is about the right age for this sort of thing to go on.

Ugh, Alabama. Any and all gay sex is illegal here. Period. -___-'

The age of consent for heterosexuals is 16.

With all the controversy wouldn't you think that the age for homosexuals would be higher than that for heterosexuals? I mean it seems to contradict the homophobic point of view, which is that homosexuality is wrong. So why would they want to embrace it at such a young age? I personally think 16 is reasonable age for consent for all sexes, genders and sexual orientations. I think by that age a person should have received proper sex education that embraces and does not frown upon human sexuality. I think that we need better sex ed programs in our schools, and that it should start at an early age. By age 7 a child should be able to differentiate between right and wrong, and I think that is when sex education should start, but of course, very gradually. What do you all think?

I'd say sex education ought to be held off until a little later. I don't think many seven year olds would truly understand what they were being taught. In Indiana, public schools start you in 5th grade. I think that's a fairly adequate time to start gradually - as that's when you first really start to have sexual desires you'd like to act on. Then they have the full on run down in 9th grade which is extremely helpful or not, depending upon the teacher.

I don't think there should be an exact "age" that kids should be tought about sex. That implies that it would be up to the school system, which it should not be. In fact, the school system should not be allowed to teach about sex until the high school level, which everyone pretty much already knows about it, and even then it should only be an elective course (like it is, now). It should be up to the parents to teach their kids about sex.

But then again, kids pretty much teach themselves, these days. I know I found out about it when I was eight years old.

Aaaah, what happened to innocence? <_>

Yeah but it's good to teach kids early. Now-a-days it seems that kids are getting more sexually active at younger ages. I think if they were taught properly they could at least know how to be safe if they're gonna be stupid and go out having sex.

People shouldn't be so conservative about sex. Being strict and not talking to your kids about it makes them want to know as well as being ignorant.. and the mixed messages that we get about sex everyday cant be good. It's like one side of our society is saying "SEX IS BAD!" and one side is flaunting it all over the ******** place.

I agree on certain parts. I agree that sex ed needs to start at a younger age. At my school in the 3rd grade I remember them having a 'Boy' bear and a 'Girl' bear and they showed that where the bathingsute covered, you don't touch. It was more of a 'If some one touches you here self defence' kinda of thing, but if you changed the program it would be a sex ed lesson.

Though as far as age goes I belive that it should be 18 on the bored no matter what. That way your at least out of highschool and can fend for yourself. 16 is too low beause your still in school, some parents disown kids, and if you end up getting a kid then most times you have to quit school, witch is never good.

So I think sex ed at a younger age and legal sex age 18.

But another thing is there have been reports of 4th graders trying to 'Do it' in the bath room just because they 'saw mommy and daddy doing it'. Sure 7, little young. But at least 4/5th grade.

I don't know but I can tell you I know a girl who had an abortion in the 7th grade.

There's a problem I have with why it's not wise for kids to teach themselves, and the reason takes only three words: 'Pull and Pray.'

I think they should spend at least a week studying the sex organs of both genders, including covering the clitoris(My classes never even acknowledged it's existence), the g-spot(Again, not mentioned), and why you shouldn't get confused when the proctologist stimulates your prostate(They didn't say anything about the possible effects of having it manipulated are.)

Also, they should spend a while studying and doing research papers on viable means of birth control.

They should also include female condoms in the listing of birth control methods. In my class, it was: Male condom, diaphragm, birth control pills, morning after pills, egg freezing, vasectomy, and spermicide. They never mentioned female condoms, not the average prices nor the process in which to get them.

I totally agree, I think I found out about the clitoris by reading erotica!
The main reason I think sex education should be taught in school is you can say leave it to the parents - but what if parents don't teach their children anything? How many parents still tell their children not to touch their genitals? Or don't tell them about contraception? Though of course I would be amazed if any schools did actually teach that there is nothing wrong with masturbation.

As for age of consent, for ages homosexual sex was illegal, though lesbian sex there wasn't one. Then the age of consent for gay sex became 18, now as far I'm awake it's 16 for everyone in the UK, which I think is sensible.
