The magic teacher paced down the hallway of the school tightly, resting his cane, or rather- his staff -as he prefered to have it called, on his shoulder. The small silver dragon glanced behind them, keeping a careful eye on its surroundings. It served very much like eyes in the back of his master's head, whatever the dwarf dragon saw, so did his owner.

A tutoring lesson...this would be new. The owl boy from his first class... a quiet lad with the soul-type. He was one of the few students in the class that hadn't tested his patience or invoked his personal style of discipline. A coward though...

A slender hand pushed the door to his classroom open and he stepped in, glancing about shortly. The student should already be there, Thom was never a minute late or early for even appointments.

Ligeia was excited over the private session that he had gotten with the magic teacher, he had the most interest in the magic arts so getting to meet with the teacher however scary he was one on one was something he would enjoy. He was hurrying along down the hall with Vorel following along after him and they saw the teacher as he move into the classroom and moved a little faster so that he could step in just after him. They weren't late were they?

"Hello Mr. Barkhelm." He said, moving over to take a seat.

Vorel paused in his following for a long moment to stare up at the little silver dragon that was with the teacher with wide eyes before following after his partner to sit down at him. Even after sitting through he was still watching the little dragon. He didn't remember it from before but then again there had been a lot more going on in that class, more kids, more dragons, more to listen too. And snacks.

"Evening." Thomas replied simply as he stood himself in the center of the room, shortly taking the stack of papers from the desktop and flipping through them. Notes he had taken on the students after the class. He selected Legia's and replaced the others in the neat box he had assigned for his personal notes, "I am pleased to have been informed that you are interested in continuing your education with me." He added, glancing up shortly.

Again there was that tunnel feeling, nothing but those eyes. Thomas was establishing the small telepathic thread between himself and the boy, just as he'd done the first day and any following day of class. It allowed him to ensure that the students remained focused. "Might I inquire as to what you hope to achieve with the persuit of such studies before we begin?"

"Thank you for letting me take another of your classes." He said, to get time with someone one on one meant that Mr. Barkhelm was taking time out of his day to do the class, something Ligeia appreciated.

"Acheive?" He murmured, "Well I had a homework assignment for Miss Raven and I ended up reading a bunch of books on the different sorts of magics, elements, and some sorts of spells. It just all seemed interesting to me." More so then the swinging around of a stick that he was learning in his battle classes. Not that he was completely against learning about the working of the staff but he just preferred the workings of magic.

"But at the same time there was a lot in the books and various elements from different areas that didn't coenside so I ended up with a lot of questions as well that the books really didn't talk about." They only spoke of what they were written about, no cross referancing, "So I figured it would be best get answers from a teacher. So maybe thats what I wanted to acheive? More knowlage on the subject?"

"Very good." Thomas nodded slowly, "My boy, the books can tell you just about anything the fool writer decides to scribble down. While some can be valuable learning instruments they aren't to be relied on. No one book can tutor to one specific mind, they're written to be general knowlege, the basic stuff that the individual writer feels are the most important elements to be learned. Each writer will feel differently about what's the most important, how to do a certain spell and the like. Any knowlege- true knowlege -is gained through observation and practice. You can't truely understand the power that an element has until you've managed to call upon it yourself and observe what it's capable of... or in extreme cases...", he glanced shortly to his left hand, "Until you've felt for yourself."

Clearing his throat he looked back to the boy, "What questions do you have? Let us start from there."

"Let's see..." What had been bothering him the most above all other things? The one thing that he supposed should be the most simple, "What are the Elements?" He finally asked, "There is one book that says there are only four: Earth, Wind, Fire, and Water. Another says five: Metal, Wood, Water, Fire, and Earth. Another adds in Light and Dark to the basic Four and there is even mention of their being a sort of Celestial Element. What about a mixture of them? How can a person begin to decide what they want to do or to study where there is no real concrete for what there is to work with?"

How could he know where to begin when it was all so confusing and everyone seemed at odds of what the elements were? You couldn't just guess that didn't seem a very smart thing to do.

"Those are the basic elements. Metal in and of itself is what I call a hybrid element, an element composed of two of the base elements- fire and earth. That combonation weilds all sorts of hybrid elements such as magma, ore, the list goes on." He waved a hand, "Indeed, the basic elements are water, fire, wind, water, light, and dark. These elements cannot be created by any two other elements. Think of them like the primary colors. They are essential to the others. Life itself is even an element, as is death, time, space, spirit, chaos, law... Everything and anything is an element or has an element. Natural occuring... every one of them. For instance." he motioned a hand to the boy, "You are a combonation of genetics, man, and beast. You're attibuted towards magic of the soul- which as I mentioned, is an element of magic. Your natural born element is ice- a hybrid between the water and the wind."

He paused to let the boy soak it in, "Am I making any kind of sense?"

That made him that much more curious, the whole Alchemy thing came to mind then. There was a book that was talking about using the base four element of Water, Wind, Fire, and Earth could create anything or change things. Did what he was saying mean that was possible since they were the basics to be mixed? Not that he had much interest in that, it sounded more to him like science instead of magic.

Ligeia thought that over everything for for a moment before nodding, "So people each have a specific 'natural born element'? It's different from the one that astrology asigned me though." He murmured, "I found that I had an element that didn't quite seem fitting when I looked at my element through an astrological chart."

That had been odd to him, Snowy Owl with a Frost Dragon and according to the chart he had been born as a Fire.

"So the Astrological Chart was wrong then?"

"Astrology is a fancy word for nonsense and fool's hopes." He frowned a bit, "There is no way that a written word by a complete stranger can foretell the outcome of a person's life, the chosen element, and the future. Pay them no heed, they are nothing more than a waste of your time and thought." He waved a hand, "Your chosen element is the one that your soul is most comfortable with, the one that comes naturally to you. Think of it in the way that some children can cross their eyes while others can whistle. Every person has different abilities, different ways of translating the same world."

He stood himself up, walking to the board to draw a small chart. A simple snowflake branching to a cloud and then to a water drop. "You can start with your knowlege of ice magic- basic things -to begin study into water and wind. Two of the base elements. Your knowlege of those base elements can expand further. Element mastery is a long and dangerous area of study."

He nodded as he quickly went back a couple of pages to add an astrix next to some of his notes and then the top margin wrote down what Thomas had said about Astrology. So then it made no difference that some chart had told him that he was 'fire' based, instead there was his real element. He turned to a fresh page to copy down what Thomas had drawn out ice magic made up from the basics of Water and Wind.

Idly he thought to himself that the assignment that he had done for Miss Raven's class was going to have to be rewritten, he wondered if she would let him replace it with the new information that he had gotten from Thomas? Maybe.

He looked up at his teacher as he said that the study of Elemental Mastery was dangerous but... then again from the sounds of it so was Magic in general and being of the 'Soul' catergory. He'd was walking a dangerous path but as it was something that he was quite interested in he was going to do his best make it no matter what! He wanted to learn.

"What of the other two elements?" He asked after a moment's thought, "Ice you said was my soul's favored element but does that mean that Fire and Earth are out of reach to me completely?"

"For now, they are polar oppisates." He walked himself over once more, scribbling notes down on a sheet of paper. "Think, boy, what two elements must combine in order to make it snow outside? To make it cold?" He frowned a bit, "Fire and earth certainly are not. If they were the cause of ice I think we all would be in for some trouble."

He sighed and leaned himself against another desk, "You must understand your element before you can think to use it- even to make a single snowflake. Tell me what causes snowfall... figure out for yourself what two base elments make your own."
PostPosted: Fri Dec 08, 2006 5:15 pm

Ligeia flushed some, he'd not meant to make it sound like he didn't understand what combined to make 'Ice' he was just curious about the other two was all, "Ahh, sorry... I am getting ahead of myself with my questions." He said to Thomas

"It would make sense to me for it to be water and wind that make up Ice. Water I know since Vorel's turned it into ice on a couple of occasions." One of them it wasn't so much as water to ice as it was juice to popciles and the other of which he was still hoping no one found out about cause he was sure that Vorel maybe have broken one of D-Corp's water fountains...

"Wind I think since when ever its cold out people are complaining about the wind going right through them to the bone." Though he really never noticed, when it was cold outside to everyone else he and Vorel were most comfortable and the wind was a bother when it was to hard and made flying difficult.

Thomas nodded slowly, "Yes, try to remember logic at all times when using magic. Every action has an equil reaction to it. If you use your magic for good there will be some evil resulting form it- even if it's as simple as making a room uncomfortably cold for your allys. Ice is normally a very tempermental element. Beautiful as it may be, it's trecherous. Do not let it consume you."

He stepped away from the desk, "Now. Observe." He closed his eyes and held out his hands in front of him, holding his hands as if to form claws of his fingers, palms facing eachother. Legia would see something move over him almost like water down towards his hands. With it so spread out over his body it was hard to really see his aura but with it all concentrated in the palms of his hands it was a bit more apparent- like looking at the sidewalk on a real hot day, it was kind of like the air had become liquid. Two balls began to form, one looking like a glob of water and the other of cloud. Thomas brought his hands together and there was a faint flash. The two orbs had become one, one that spewed puffs of white air and flakes of snow.

"What you are seeing is the creation of the raw elements themselves from my very soul- my aura. It's a force in and of itself- when called upon it can be manipulated to cast magics. THis is the raw elemental form of ice. Small as a ping-pong ball now- if I were to concentrate more of my own energy into it- I could likely cover this building with frost."

He held the ball out with a hand for the boy to observe. "I want you to try... focus on the elements that make ice- focus on what they are, what forms them, how they move. Clear your mind of all other thoughts. It will be difficult since you must focus on two elements rather than one."

Ligeia's dark eyes widened as he watched Thomas as he drew forth the elemental spheres into his hands. It was one thing to read about magic being done and there was another to be able to see it in action. He leaned forward in his seat to get a better look at them then gave a little gasp as they combined and caused snow. Woah!

He watched the small sphere while Thomas spoke, to create the elements out of his souls energy... his element. He lifted his hands up to look at them when he was told to try it. He could do this right? He nodded as if to assure himself then did as he was told pushing aside all else that was in his mind to instead focus on the two elements that made up ice, the water and the wind.

He'd seen it done now all he had to do was figure it out for himself. Ice, water and wind mixed from what it looked like was he to call them up separately then combine them as the teacher had? It sounded like the right way to do it so that is what he tried to concentrate upon doing, drawing on his own power, aura his teacher had called it to do just that.

"Very good." Thomas encouraged the boy, "THink of the elements, picture them in your mind. There is water in the air, air in the water. The air we breathe at all times carries moisture within it. Focus on that, use the movement of air to create the cold." He continued to watch the boy, whirling the small element ball in his hands. "Eventually, my boy, you will be able to create spikes of ice through the air itself, control them with the wind, use them as defense and offense. For now, simply focus on creating the raw element."

He stepped back, allowing the boy some room and remained silent. Focus... he had to focus. Thomas couldn't baby him through this.
