Inari was padding back and forth, in the area by the water hole where he had seen the great blue lion the great blue god told him to search for. He was planning everything out in his head, how many steps it took to get to the mound-thing the blue lion named Na-be...teh strange blue lion named Na-be.

The small rusty brown cub did not forget what Mrost had asked of him. He looked everyday for the lion, now it seemed when Inari wanted to find Mrost to tell him the answer, he couldn't find him. He had gone to the borders, the different areas of the lands but nothing proved to be working.

What if he forgot what he had found out!?

He started running over and over again and again in his mind. He wanted to do this so that perhaps Mrost could start giving him those tests, to see if in fact he could become a warrior. He had tried to get bigger, stronger and faster, he succeeded all of those except for the bigger part. He wasn't that much bigger from before, which upset him.

Inari peered into the water and swatted at it frowning, trying to come up with some way to find Mrost.

Mrost had a tendency to find those who sought to be found, usually through sheer coincidence though it tended to play in his favour. He had been brewing a plot in his mind now for some time, a kidnapping, a few easily malleable minds to fill his army and to torment their parents. He still sought Na-Be however and had decided to come see if he could find the lion he had given one of his feathers to, see if he had found anything out in his time around the pridelands.

He didn't realise that the waterhole he was heading towards was exactly where he wanted to be.

"Great, can't even find him because I'm so small!" Inari said, harsh tone in his voice as he smacked his reflection in the water. He was upset, he was tired of being a cub, he wanted to be something more, do something grand, become someone everyone would know by his name. How could he achieve it if he was so small?

He frowned at the water as the ripples began to clear, showing his form again. What could he do? "Then, then what would he say when he saw me! Saw I was still so small, he wouldn't care about giving me a test, I'd just be too small, I don't want to be like this anymore!" he smacked the water again, anger growing in his heart at everything that had gone on. He met a few friends, some of them were growing faster then he was, which made him angry at everything.

Least he got the information Mrost wanted, perhaps that would suffice the god until he got bigger.

He flopped on the ground, eyes narrowed at the water, "You never show what I want to be..."

Mrost drew within earshot of Inari just as he made his comment at the water, recognising the voice and stepping into view, he smirked. "Then you obviously aren't looking hard enough." In his opinion if you always strove to be something you were not you never learned to use what you had. "Small you might be but stupid you are not. Play to your strengths and weaknesses become irrelevant."

A part of him sympathised with the boy, after all, he had been tiny for most of his life, a runt compared to Tanaka. He hadn't even gotten the beginnings a mane until the end of his adolescence. He wouldn't admit that outright however.

Instead, he sat down casually before Inari, his tail doing it's usual intricate curves behind him.

"I was looking for you." he stated matter-of-factly.

Inari was muttering things to himself in his mind, trying to think of what else he could do. He was staring into the water absent mindedly as he heard a voice from behind him. He raised his golden orbs to have them come into contact with a mass of blue, it was Mrost!

Instantly Inari's features perked up, a smile on his maw. What Mrost said to him touched him, so Mrost was here. He was small, Mrost even said it, but Mrost did say he wasn't stupid. It touched the cub intimately, made him feel more proud of who he was at the moment.

He smiled as Mrost sat down next to him, Inari tilted his head at the god, "Really? I've been looking for you as well, I found him, the one you told me to seek out, I found something interesting out as well...he has a family," Inari said with a nod. The blue feather swaying back and forth somewhat behind the cub's ear.

Mrost raised a brow at the news that Inari had found Na but switched into absolute and barely suppressed fury at the news of Na's cubs. His reaction gave a brief fleeting glimpse of his true nature, one usually only sighted in war or in times of great stress. He snarled forcefully, charging away from Inari to lash out at something, anything. "That b*****d!" he roared, slashing the bark of a nearby tree wide open. "I'll KILL HIM. No wait. I'll do WORSE." He snapped around, pacing back over to Inari, seizing control of his attitude and composure with scary speed, that murderous look concealed again behind chilly blue eyes.

"My apologies. You do me a great favour. It's NA who will be skinned alive and hung out to dry." he grinned sadistically. "Or rather..." he looked thoughtful "No. I'll make him suffer. I'll take that family away from him."

He laughed "You did well."

Inari watched as Mrost lashed out at a tree, amazingly, he did not flinch at all. Inari knew Mrost would not harm him, he had not done anything wrong. His tail flicked while he watched Mrost come back over, he smiled, glad he did something right.

"He was very strange when I spoke to him, he yelled at me, told me I should stay away from you, but he is the strange one, so I've stayed away from him, I can show you which way his den is Mrost if you would like," he said nodding his head. He puffed out his chest a bit, glad he had helped Mrost.

Perhaps Mrost would give him a test now?

"I've also been training hard to get strong Mrost, so I could be ready for a test, if you think I can handle such a thing," he said nodding. He still wanted to be strong and become a warrior.

Mrost curled his lip at the comment that Na had informed Inari to stay away from him. Yes, he had reason to inform others of that, Mrost found it amusing that so many chose to ignore Na's warnings, strolling right back into his waiting talons time and time again. It simply stroked his already cumbersome ego.

He shook his head "No need, I know where his den lies." He had known for some time but had not struck because the peace of the lands had remained unbroken for so long and to enter it was a risk he was not willing to take lightly. "But now I have reason to venture there, his cubs will serve me from now on and will learn to kill their own father in due time or be killed themselves."

Tilting his head, he smirked. "A test? Fetching that information for me was a test in itself. There is no need to run out chasing glory and tests of strength if you are confident in yourself." a thought came to mind "Though there was one test I gave to my most loyal of all lions a long time ago while he was still small. It only works when the passenger is small enough to carry." He grinned.

"You could undertake that test if you wish, see how brave you really are."

Inari listened to Mrost, oh, so he had known where Na-be's den was? Aww, well, least he gave him so good information yes? he shifted himself and pawed at the earth beneath him, his tiny claws scarping against in the ground in anticipation of what Mrost might say.

That was a test?

So...does that mean he passed that one?

It seemed so as he listened to Mrost more so. Small enough to carry? Hmm, were they going somewhere? A trip! What would his parents say, well, he was out on his own a lot. Though he still cared for them greatly. But he wanted to be strong, so that he could protect his family if he ever needed too.

"Please tell me what it is Mrost? I want to know what the test is, I can be brave," he said puffing his chest out even more. He had a sparkle of confidence in his eyes. He wanted to know if he could do the test, he wanted to become the greatest lion he could be.

Mrost got to his feet and held out a forepaw with a grin. "You do not get told in advance what this test entails. Come here and hold on tightly to my paw, let go without permission and you fail by default, I will not tolerate failure." As he said that, he flared out his wings, their illusion flickering ever so slightly to reveal the tattered feathers beneath it.

This was the test he had given Hakan all those days ago while he was still young. He did not expect others to match his prodigy but they could undertake the same task he did, test their mettle and be counted amongst the great warriors.

He flapped his wings once to warm them up, waiting for Inari to do as he was asked.

Inari looked at Mrost with confusion in his eyes. He could not know before hand? He couldn't know if he was coming back home? His ears fell back as his mind raced on what to do. His tail flicked back and forth from behind him, he took a few steps forward, golden hues falling on Mrost's paw.

He reached out, touching Mrost's paw softly at first, speaking softly, "I want...to come back and see my family again..." he said softly, he said it even if it had nothing to do with keeping him away from here. But his family meant a lot to him, but Mrost was a great influence on his life too.

Now he grasped Mrost's paw tighter, looking up at him with gleaming eyes of gold, he would go, take this test, he wanted to be strong. His parents would be proud. He wanted to be a warrior.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 19, 2006 12:54 pm

Mrost laughed derisively "Don't worry, you /should/ see your family again after this, although in saying that you remind me of how child-like you really are in your own mind, care only about yourself, not about your "ickle family"." He snorted dismissively before bringing his wings down in earnest, launching himself from the ground and into the air. As much as he hated flying long distances, he wouldn't give up his ability to do so for anything in the world.

He had his other paw ready to seize Inari should he slip mid-flight, he didn't want to go killing possible soldiers.

Inari felt his spirit lighten, was his still that much of a cub even now? Before he knew it Mrost was taking off from the ground, lifting him up as well. He peered down at the ground the was looking farther and farther away every second with wide eyes.

Holy crap.

What kind of test was this?!

He tried to stay calm, look not nervous, though on the inside he was nervous, a lot. What was Mrost going to do up here? Were they going to fly away to somewhere far from here so he couldn't see his family? What kind of test was this? "What am I supposed to do Mrost?" he asked as they still rose up higher and higher.
PostPosted: Sun Nov 19, 2006 1:08 pm

Mrost ignored Inari's question for now, simply concentrating on flying up, higher and higher, towards that point where the savannah became nothing but a pretty little dotting of trees and grasses for as far as the eye could see, pride rock visible on one side, the graveyard and desert on the other. It didn't phase Mrost in the least, but he /was/ the one with wings after all.

He drew to a hover, powerful wings allowing him to hover in place, the air bitingly cold up here. In a tone that was not comforting in the least, he stated.

"Let go. I will not repeat the request, do it or I forcibly drop you and make sure you die down there. As a warrior the first thing you must learn to do is to take your life into your own hands, place all of your trust in your commanding officer. I am your commanding officer. I say jump and what do you do?"

He held out his paw with a wicked grin.

Inari watched as everything seemed to become nothing. He was grasping onto Mrost's paw as much as he could, and when he felt Mrost's grip lighten up he was confused until he heard Mrost speak. His golden eyes looked at Mrost while he hovered, first unsure of what to do.

He had to do what he said. Commanding officer, that's what Mrost was, he had to complete this test. Prove he wasn't just a child anymore. He thought to clsoe his eyes before he let go, but he needed his eyes open, to see what fate would deal him, to not look away from teh inevitable choice.

He let go of Mrost's paw, falling. The wind batting at his sides, he winced, ti hurt and was cold. Made him feel frozen. He started to fall faster, unable to control his movements anymore as he fell. He could see the ground coming closer and close. Soon he would hit it maybe, if Mrost decided he had done the wrong thing.

Fate would show if he chose right.
