Know what really ticks me off? The fact that people competely stereotype us Canadians. What have we done to the world that is so funny? I just don't seem to get it?

Have you read Through The One-Way Mirror by Margaret Atwood?
It describes the Canadians' feelings towards the US and the rest of the world. You may find your answer in there.

Well one book, in my opinion, does not describe the way all Canadians feel. it may contain some very common thoughts, but this would not suggest everyone to (criticize?) those who do not deserve it.

Well then, let me give you my opinion.
Not everyone in the world stereotypes and criticize Canadians. The people that do are mostly American teens, since they stereotype every minority.
Stereotypes always have some truth in them, since most of them are made by observation, however careless it may be. Canadians probably have done something that enables people to stereotype.
An example would be: Canada allows gay marriages; Canadians are gay.
I'm Asian, and Asians have much more stereotypes than Canadians.

I think we stereotype Canadians the same way people stereotype Americans.
For instance, I am an American I look around me and see, mostly stupid people.. A lot of other countries believe Americans are all a bunch of stereotyping, ignorant fools who would follow anyone.
A lot of Americans think that Canadians are a bunch of extremo-nationalist copycat Americans who cant play Hockey worth a s**t but pretend like its there sport anyway. The reason we think this is because of those we often see who either claim to be Canadian or are Canadian, often times the worst half of something sticks out like a sore thumb and so everyone quickly writes down what they see and is off to go tell the world, this is why there is a bunch of laughs about Canada. The Extremo-Nationalist Canadians yell about how great a country they have, but in reality the country itself hasnt done to much and what it has done is clouded by the shadow America casts over it, because lets face it a lot of people in the world consider Canada to just be the missing half of America, and a lot of Canadian providences want to become a part of America, or two; one is Quebec and I dont know what the other one is. Another thing people often laugh about is the fact that Canadians didnt win its independance, it was given to them, they didnt pour their blood and fight for their lives they complained and cried until Europe got annoyed enough to cut the leash, of course some consider this a good thing; people who believe war doesnt solve anything... oh and the most notable problem with Canada that people see is that in some providences it is required that all signs contain French warnings and notices before English, also some schools in Canada teach in French and not in English and they take more care in the French language in schooling systems, why is this so wrong? Because English is the universal language, even Japanese and Chinese people learn English equally or greater than they learn their own languages because it is the key to success on the global level.
All in all I think your just noticing those who think Canada is lame and who like to b***h about Canada, there is plenty of people in the world who either dont think about Canada, love canada, or just think its an okay country that has atleast not done to much wrong.
But how you are complaining or asking now, I could do the same with America, but I know the answer already.. my asking would be.
asking Why does everyone b***h about the problems America has, why is everyone pointing out our mistakes all the time and laughing at our citizens and calling us corrupt, etc..
Short answer: We have become the world police since WWII and we sit in the spotlight, when we mess up it matters most because we are the police. Kind of like if a police officer murdered someone it would be all over the news the next day, but if a thug murders someone its just a [oh whatever], because the thug has no name to live up to.. and of course the thug would be hostile countries like North Korea, the Police would be the protectors primarily America and following up with Great Britian and until the late 20th century France. As for the rest of the countries, they would be the Middle-class male or female, no one expects them to do anything and so no one really watchs them; they usually dont make big mistakes because they arent charged with big responsibility.
Oh and dont take this the wrong way, I am not some loser who thinks America is the best, I think America has its share of problems just like the rest of the world, especially in our educational system and our government isnt doing to well either.. I think what has set us apart from the world in past centuries has been the fact that we are melting pot, every person from every nation goes to our country and together they work towards a better life, sure raciscm, sexism and close-minded bigiting assholes have stepped on the road but the people have always found a way around it, I think that is what has made America such an interesting country in past centuries; at the moment I think we are beginning to lose it, but I also hope that eventually the people will have cleared minds and it will be re-kindled, anyway, longggg post.. I am done.

But if the thug was black it would be all over the news. Everyone sterotypes everyone, it's what we as humans do. Stereotypes are usually biased towards how you feel about a certain culture/topic. I personally think Canadians are quite honorably better than Americans. They have a lower crime/death rate, their medicare is free. Numerous things stick out about how much more their government is more concerned about the citizen's well being. Ours is just money hungry. Our government has control over the inflation of our gas prices, as it went down a dollar within weeks. Do you know why? Because it's holiday season, and high gas prices threatened the seasonal increase in gas consumption. It's not just Americans stereotyping Canadians.

I hate it when people say that the US is one of the greatest living nations today. It sickens me.

Pardon me, but I am Indian, and I certainly don't speak "Bibidy bibidy". Or worship cows as God. Or own a Kwik-E-Mart. Or work at 7-11.
So, about stereotypes. They do generally hold some truth in them. I for one can't stand most black people, but it's not because they're black. It's because they're loud and obnoxious. I actually do know a few black people that aren't loud and obnoxious, and I'm friends with those ones.

Normally we (humans) judge a race by a few samples of each. That's stereo-typing. We judge millions of people by a small portion of people who are the same colour. Personally I hate stereo-typing. Say you run into a random person. You fight. You hate them. The next person that walks by that is the same colour, gets hate from you when they didn't even do anything to deserve it.

Yeah I'm Canadian too, but I usually get more stereotypes from people inside of Canada because I'm from Newfoundland. No I don't eat fish everyday, no I don't speak with an accent, and no I never kissed no God damn fish. But people get stereotyped everyday, why? either because the majority of people they met from that culture are that way. Although, I am curious why it is so easy to make people think we live in igloos...
