Kimi looked down at her reflection in a tiny pond in the middle of the forest. It was quiet, probably the quietest it has been in a long while. Kimi drank from the water in the pond. It was cool, but it was not a fresh as the water from the stream she usually drinks from. Kimi sighed. What was she doing out her by herself? She thought, trying to remember when she was trying to accomplish by coming into the forest. Was it just to get some time off? Or was she actually looking for something?
Perhaps Kimi just wanted to try doing something new, seeing new places, meeting new people. Ah, yes, that is most likely it. Kimi loves meeting new Soquili, its as if she meets someone new every day. Kimi looked around the forest, trying to see if anyone was around. From what she could see, there wasn't anyone. Hrm, what was Kimi thinking coming all the way out into an empty forest to meet people? Kimi felt a little disappointed. Perhaps it was best to go home. As Kimi turned around to head home, she realized something...she doesn't know where home is. Kimi was lost.
"Help! Hello? Is anyone here?" shouted Kimi, hoping someone would hear her screams and help her find her way home. "Is anyone here?!"

Malarif was almost always alone. He kept himself to himself, bitter at the world and other Soquili with their resplendent beauty and contentment. He would never be content, restless for a life he'd never truly comprehend. He wandered solitary, a grinning shadow in the forest, scented before he was seen, his fur more filthy than most, the grit so deeply ingrained that even rain could not remove it. Today he had followed a scent into the forest, one he'd never come across before, tracking it across silent paths. It gave him something to do even if he didn't catch up with the Soquili he followed, he didn't normally. Today was to be different it seemed, he looked up, ears perked at the sound of cries nearby, it seemed that someone was in trouble out there. Trouble. He should really move on and ignore the yells to save his own hide, he figured, but curiosity was an irritating thing. Though he tried to walk on, he didn't get far before, with an irritated snort at his own investigative nature, he turned and, breaking into a gallop, made his way towards Kimi, emerging from the trees like a wickedly grinning shadow of the night. He did not mean her harm but that did not stop him from being a rather intimidating sight, all oily rainbow mane and filthy black fur. He turned to face her with those bottomless white eyes. "I am here."

Kimi turned as a voice called to her from her side. As Kimi turned her head, her eyes widened as an expression of fear swept across her face. Kimi's jaw dropped as she stumbled on her own words, choking in panic. A Soquili, no, a beast, had found Kimi. Kimi let out a high-pitched scream of panic that echoed throughout the forest. Kimi screamed and shouted until she was out of breath, then realizing that she may have been quite irrational to shriek so loudly. After all, it is only a Soquili. He looked quite intimidating, but did not seem as dangerous as the Kalonas or Skinwalkers that she has crossed paths with. No, this one was just a Soquili. A very creepy and intimidating Soquili, but a Soquili nonetheless.
"Heh, uh, hi," said Kimi, a bit embarassed about her initial reaction to the sight of the stallion. Kimi took a step back, still very cautious. "Uhm, sorry for yelling, I'm just really scared and...lost. Do you think you can help me find my way...uh, out of this place?"
Kimi smiled nervously with a light laugh, that faded almost instantly into an expression of vacancy. Kimi froze up, staring at the stallion. He looked so strange and bizaree. There was no color to his eyes, nor the rest of his coat, but his mane and tail were light shades of various colors. Kimi continued to examine the stallion, still alert of any danger.

Mal flicked his ears back and shied at Kimi's scream, fretting and fighting the initial urge to run away. He forgot too often these days that having something like him run up on you was a less than reassuring thing to encounter. He calmed himself, nodding at her apology, it was no trouble, nothing out of the ordinary.
"Lost?" he said, looking around the place where they stood. He'd never been lost, having no home or fixed abode, he was always exactly where he wanted to be. "Hmmm. That depends, where are you looking to go? There are many ways out though not all of them, I imagine are routes you'd want to take."
He flicked some of his oil-rainbowed mane out of his face, an apparent habit of his, as he did so trying to ignore the smell of rot and decay that seemed to follow him everywhere, a direct result of fur that had never been groomed or washed since his foalhood.
"Wherever you do want to go though, I can help you get there."
After all, he was never going anywhere.

"Anywhere I want to go?" asked Kimi. Hrm...Kimi thought about her home, her mother, her family. No, she did not want to return the mayhem that lies there. She wants to go away from them, somewhere they cannot find her. But where, where would be a place where nobody would venture off to?
"Well, I come from nearby the beach and the mountains. My family lives around there too," explained Kimi slowly, still unsure of what she was going to decide. "However...I would prefer not to return there. I would like to go away from them, run away from my problms, or at least for the time being. I need some place for me to think. There is so much going on in my life that I need to sort out."
Kimi looked at the bizarre stallion with eyes of wonder. The stallion didn't seem like the type to be wandering around in public where everyone would be focusing their attention on him. No, he seemed to be the type that is much more secluded and reclusive.
"Where do you live?" asked Kimi curiously. Perhaps she could take shelter in this stallion's home. Hopefully it would not be near her family.

Malarif listened in quiet interest to what the mare had to say. He'd never had a family, raised by a Soquili known to most as a frankensteed he was used to others preferring not to have to look at what they didn't like. He knew how to stay hidden when he had to, even if his scent would give him away on occasion. He had left the stallion who raised him behind one day without so much as a goodbye and headed out into the big wide world. He hadn't had to say goodbye, goodbyes were final and an end, his journey would bring him back to the thundery plains one day.
"I visited those lands once, though attractive, they were not for me." he smiled, the expression merging into the massive grin that marked the fur on his cheeks, a marking, nothing more but one that gave him a far more sinister look than he intended. He looked eastwards with a slight smile. "I live wherever my hooves decide to place me, but in the deep wintertime I retreat to a forest of pine far to the east, they grow so tightly that daylight nor snow can penetrate their lower branches. It is a safe and warm retreat with enough grass and foliage left over to tide me through the most difficult of months."
Months he noted, that were fast approaching.
"As for running away from one's problems.." his smile became warmer, as though he was sharing an old joke "Let's just say that I have been running for so long that I have forgotten any other way to be."

Kimi listened to the stallion's story with great interest and wonder. The stallion indeed had a very peculiar, yet fascinating, life story. Kimi's on the other hand, didn't truly compare.
"Well, the lands are not quite for me either," said Kimi. Well, perhaps she was lying a little bit, but lately she felt that way. "My family is quite a mess, I don't even know where to begin." Kimi laughed lightly at her own discomfort in telling her life story.
"I'm sorry, my life really isn't that interesting to be quite honest," said Kimi, feeling a bit embarassed. "So, you said that you have been running for a long time. From what, may I ask?"

Mal didn't mind that the mare wasn't interested in telling of her past, he wasn't one to pry and after all relationships seemed so fleeting, what was one day a happy family could be torn apart the next. Instead he simply let the conversation progress naturally, not asking any more questions on a subject that seemed to bring Kimi discomfort.
"Me?" he laughed "I don't know. Other Soquili? The two leggers? I forgot why I started running all that time ago and to this day I don't know whether I set off to get away from something or to simply seek out whatever life had in store for me. All I know is that as long as I keep moving I'll someday find what I seek or it will find me."
He was odd in his philosophies. "And you say your life isn't interesting? Then make it so." he grinned consiprationally. "Life is too short to idle away."
He stamped a hoof. "Oh! So sorry. I didn't introduce myself properly. I'm Malarif, though feel free to call me whatever the heck you want"

"Huh? Oh, right! My name is Kimi," said Kimi, forgetting to introduce herself properly as well while thinking about what Malarif had said. "That is quite true. Life is too short to idle away."
Those words ran through Kimi's head over and over again. "Well, if you keep moving, maybe what you are looking for won't just find you. Perhaps you may find it."
Kimi smiled at Malarif. He seemed to be very philosophical and wise, especially considering who reclusive he seems to be. On the other hand, one who is reclusive probably has more time to observe life, nature and the wonders of the world, so may have a greater and wiser philosophical mind.
"What do you think you are looking for?" asked Kimi curiously. "Do you believe that fate or destiny have brought the two of us to meet?"

Mal noted her name, filing it alongside those few he had met along his way so far, it was a nice name, short and to the point. He nodded though. "That's what I'm hoping. I put myself at the mercy of fate, let her lead me where she will." he had been a bitter and destructive teen, lashing out at anyone who got near, blaming them for his appearance, but these days he had mellowed out a whole lot, resigning himself to whatever destiny lay ahead. There had to be some method to the madness of his birth.
"Like I say, I have no idea other than that I am seeking something, only time would tell for sure if it was that same vein of predestination that led me to you." he was really glad of the company, he had almost thought his voice gone from lack of use.
He tipped his head daintily towards the forest around them. "Shall we walk and talk?"

"Indeed," said Kimi in response to Malarif's question. Kimi approached Malarif, prepared to follow him wherever he may take her.
"You seem to be very confident in your beliefs, but also seem to be very, well, unsure on what your purpose is," said Kimi. "I too believe that everyone has something to look for in their life, a reason to live, something to strive for. A purpose. I do not know what my purpose is, perhaps my purpose is to love, but yet, I seem to be afraid of the very concept of love. It seems so important, proper and significant. It is restricting, it prevents one from having another love, does it not? Can one not go through life having more than one love? What is so terrible about that? I have only found one love, but I do not know if he is my only love."
Kimi paused, realizing that she was rambling on and on about her lifestory, which she tried so hard not to tell and bore Malarif with. "Sorry for rambling like that," said Kimi apologetically. "To be honest, in a weird way, I am running from love."

Walking made Mal feel better, as if simply moving his feet made any of the troubles which threatened to catch up with him, fall away. As he made his way through the trees, he kept one ear turned to Kimi, listening to all she had to say, very few ever saw fit to hang around him let alone confide in him. He nodded sympathetically at her comment. "My grasp on the concept of love is sketchy at best but I always figured that the moment love becomes shackles that bind one's soul it becomes less like love and more like enslavement. Love costs nothing and therefore should be freely given in all things." he swished his braided tail and casually leapt over a fallen log.
"It's as good a thing as any to flee from, binding love kills more souls than any other evil in this world, choking the will to fly from former lovers wings. You just might have saved yourself by fleeing it. And no need to apologise, I love to ramble and be rambled to."
He smirked "After all, you forget, I don't get to talk to anyone much out here."

"Ah, yes, but I worry that I may be making the wrong choice to run from love simply because there may be someone else to love," said Kimi. "What if I am wrong? What if there isn't someone else that I would love and they would love me back? What if the love I have now is the love that I am destined to stay with?"
Kimi smiled at Malarif. He was very easy to talk with, moreso than most Soquili that Kimi have spoken with. He truly listens as she spoke, or so it seemed, while other Soquili would often ignore much of what she says. He also gave very good and useful advice with a very wise perspective and outlook.
"Perhaps you should stop running yourself, Malarif," suggested Kimi with a warm and welcoming smile. "Find someone to talk with as opposed to waiting for them to come to you. Take the initiative. Be the action, not just the reaction that follows."

"Choices we make are only bad ones if we regret them. Never regret and your decisions will always be the right ones. Besides, this world is too big for there to be only one other for each of us." He led the way out into a clearing in the trees with the crisp early winter sky stretched overhead, the grasses declining to a small lake where the water had pooled briefly on it's way down from the hills.
He looked more serious, pausing in his step. "I think I'm just scared to. When you get so used to a life of no connections it's hard to will up the courage to wrought that change. " he laughed almost bitterly "I'm not even that old and I'm already set in my ways."
His smile returned again. "But you are right. I have been running for far too long. It just might be time to take my future into my own power, I'm not a foal any longer."
He grinned at her "Perhaps our meeting was fate's way of telling me I've been out here on my own so long I've lost perspective."

"Perhaps it was destiny for us to meet," said Kimi. "Maybe we were both meant to meet each other and guide one another into another direction. And there is nothing to be afraid of. The world is not that scary. Sure, there are challenges, but one cannot always run and hide from every challenge and obstacle that may lay in their path. Ironically, that is just what I am doing out here."
Kimi smiled, feeling a bit silly for running away from her problems. "Can you help me find the path to my home? It's out by the mountains," said Kimi. "I think we should both return to my home. You can meet many other Soquili there. Who knows? Perhaps you may find what you are looking for there."
