Kamin padded along the well trodden path to the Nature Pack, wondering why he had spent his night at the Temple. It was something he had never done, and now that he had done it, he honestly craved to get away from the stone and sounds of worship. He wasn't tired; naps had been taken inbetween shrine visits. He did, however, hold a slightly haggard look, for sleeping on cold stone is not a sound sleep.

Shaking the sleep from his eyes, the grey Malu moved through the pack, eyeing various Malu who were fast asleep. It was quite early, really, and he didn't blaime them for sleeping. He would be asleep in a temple corridor right now if it weren't for the cold stone. Kamin was not a huge fan of cold, and the chilling nights the desert brang were something he was just not getting used to. His fine furs weren't as thick as the average Malu, and they did nothing to keep him warm, as their design was for a streamline body that cools down fast.

He contemplated going to sleep, but he knew by going now would only mess with his sleep schedule. His packmates would be waking soon and moving about on their daily shedules, be it eating first, going to the temple, or socializing. He was usually one to head off to the temple first thing in the morning, but today he figured he could break that schedule, as he had just been there for seemingly forever. At least the sun was peaking over the horizon, he thought. It would warm some soon. Padding sluggishly over to the brook, he thumped down on the bank, laying down and letting his paws drift in the cold waters. He gave a little shiver and looked off towards the sunrise.

The sun was still low on the horizon, a pink and orange tinge littered the still dark sky. Evey blinked her eyes open and looked up, "it's still early," she whispered to herself, rolling over. She looked around her at a few other malu, most were still asleep, a few were starting to move and toss in their sleep, the sign of waking up, and two or three were walking around. It wasn't rare that a few malu would be up and active at this hour, and Evey wasn't surprised by any of the action going on around her.

Evey yawned, her post-sleepiness starting to wear away already. She stretched her limbs outwards and then rolled onto her stomach, preparing to stand. She looked to see what the already active malu were up to but it looked as if they were just strolling back from a short trip to the desert for some reason.

Standing, she stretched and yawned, and then closed her eyes and took in the morning sounds and smells. In the darkness and partial pink light, her coat took on a sickly pinkish-grey tone. Deciding to find something to eat, she walked a few steps forward and turned to head toward the forest.

Kamin stared into the current, nearly hypnotized by its rhythmic sounds. It was musical, a soothing background for a wandering mind. He so wished to hear the tide again, though he knew his journey south would not be for at least a while. The brook provided only some of the wonderious sound, small splashes from the meager fish and turtles accompanied by a lazy current. The turtles were turely interesting creatures. Kamin had seen a sea turtle once or twice in his lifetime, and was instantly captivated. He had swam along side it for quite a while, attempting communication. The turtle, however, having already seen Malu pups in his long life, ignored him and moved deeper into the ocean, until the grey youngster could not follow anymore. These turtles could retract into thier shells when threatened, and were only semi-aquatic. Kamin found them quite interesting.

The pack was slowly waking as the warm sun rose and fought off the night's chilled air. He could hear their movements all around him; the ones that chose to sleep deeper in the forest were brushing by leaves, and the ones that chose to sleep nearer the desert were moving down the paths. The world was becoming alive once again, and the nocturnal were falling into a deep slumber. The turtle nearby him was waking, as well, and moved sluggishly towards the water. With a wagging tail, Kamin stood and stared down the creature, batting at its shell like a pup. He smirked triumphantly when the shocked animal retreated into its shell, and sat back down, content with his green company. Another Malu, though, would probablly do him some good, seeing as he had spent the entirety of the night in solitude.

Evey was still half asleep as she ventured toward the forest. The well beaten path was still cool under her paws and it made her feel cold. Either that or her metabolism was still getting inot gear. She could hear the sounds of the stream up ahead. It wasn't loud, but she could still hear it and it was comforting.

Stretching her wings and flapping a few times, she felt herself warm slightly. She looked over at the current that was still a distance from her. Scanning it's shores she saw something familiar. A grey and white malu sat on the water's edge, along with a green speck nearby. Evey thought she was being decieved by her eyes and slowly ntinued down the path she was taking.

But she was intruiged by who this malu was. The only malu she knew that was grey was Kamin, and she believed he was probably still by the temple. She had not seen him since their meeting at the temple, implying that he did not come to the pack's area the night before. SHe was one of the last malu to arrive last night, most of the pack already sleeping when she finally staggered to an open spot.

Deciding against her previous judgement she turned and walked toward the grey lump sitting by the brook.

Kamin placed a wet paw on the turtle as it popped out of its shell, but this time it didn't go back in. The little green head turned towards the Malu and they stared at eachother for a few minutes, both deciding their next move. For some reason, the turtle didn't go into the water, but instead laid himself out on the bank to sunbathe. Kamin was quite delighted with this new advancement. "Well, my little friend, looks like we'll eat breakfast together, eh?" He stood and moved into the icey waters, growing stiff as it washed over his legs. It wasn't a very deep stream, but deep enough to come up to his shoulders in out in the middle. This morning he didn't venture too far, for it was just too cold to get completely wet. Instead, he fished near the banks, placing his jaws wide open in the current. It was a way of fishing he had adapted while living on the beaches of his home pack, and it worked quite well, mostly due to his coloring. To an unsuspecting fish, he looked like a large rock. A rather large minnow brushed the side of his lip, and his mouth clamped shut, pulling the fish from the water. It was a good size for the brook, and he quickly moved out of the current and dropped his breakfast on the bank.

Dripping wet and shiverring, Kamin scanned the area for a fruit to go with his meal. His eyes fell on something much more interesting than breakfast, however. Moving sluggishly towards him, with an air of sleepiness about her, was Evey. His eyes brightened and he smiled, glad that he would have company other than the turtle. "Good morning," he called down the stream, nodding to the other Malu cheerfully. "Care to join me for breakfast?" If she had a craving for fish, he realized he'd have to go back into the icey waters, but it would be worth it.

As the voice reached her ears, she found she was right. It was Kamin who was near the stream. She felt slightly more awake as she continued walking toward him. She saw he had fish, and when he offered her some she realized she actually wasn't in the mood for fish.

"I'd love to join you, Kamin!" She replied, beginning to search for soemthing she could eat. Then remembering a small fruit bush in the forest just a few paces, she looked into the darkness, seeing little but the red-orange glimmer of the ripenning winter fruit. She darted for and grabbed a sprig the bush, berries galore ready for eating. She then turned and headed back toward Kamin, approchaing only a minute later. "Good morning," she mumbled through her mouth full of branch and berry.

Kamin's short fur was already drying as the sun's rays grew in hieght. He was glad for the coming warmth, not being a Malu that was fond of the wintery nights. As the days were growing shorter, and winter was nearly upon them, he knew that he'd have to find a way to keep warm. He was sure it wouldn't get all that cold in the middle of the desert, but he had heard the nights could get below freezing this time of year. It would take him some time to get used to the new climate he was in, that was for sure, but at least his body could thaw during the day.

The Malu made himself comfortable on the smooth stones of the bank, laying down in front of his fish feast. The turtle beside him stirred slightly, but only to move to an area without shadow. Kamin helped himself to a bite of his meal, and quickly gestured for his guest to do the same. "The nights are pretty cold here." His comment was between two bites, and merely conversational. He was sure that the pair would soon dive into another long talk, like they had the day before. He was comfortable enough with her to let the conversation go where ever it would.

Evey dropped the branch to the ground and sat down in front of him. She then noticed what the green speck she had noticed before was. It was a common turtle. Smiling, she eyed the turtle, it's cute green shell reflecting some sun and it's brownish head peaking out of it's shell. She smiled, popping a few berries into her mouth.

"Yes, night here do get pretty cold." She chewed some and then swallowed what was in her mouth, then looked at Kamin. "During the colder nights the firepit is lit. Then all the malu sleep around that. The fire and the warmth of the bodies of many malu make the nights much less uncomfortable." Evey threw some more berries into her mouth, getting a sour one and making a painfully silly and "eww, this one is SO sour" face. Once that one was gone, she looked at Kamin and gave him a childish smile.

Kamin finished off his sad exscuse for a fish and stood, walking around for a fruit to accompany his meal. He jumped up on his hind legs, his paws placed firmly on tree bark, and reached for a fruit he had yet to try. Picking it off the branch, he delicately brought it back to the bank in his jaws, letting it drop out onto the dirt and rocks when he was in front of Evey. "Sounds cozy." He smiled and sat back down, taking a bite out of the fruit. It was a bit too sweet for his taste, but he swallowed it none the less, filing away a reminder not to pick that one again in his mind.

The male snorted into his fruit at the sight of her face all twisted and squished. He tried to be polite and not laugh, but it just wasn't happening. He laughed some, and tried to recover. "So did you hear about Chael and Kiua?" The pack had been abuzz lately with the pregnancy of Chael's mate, since he was one of their own. There had been the most exciting birth in another pack, but it was all the more exciting when a Malu of your own group was going through something like that.

Evey made another silly face, this time, one more of embarassment than of sour food at the fact the Kamin had laughed at her. She wasn't really embarassed, but she thought he was funny. He seemed slightly more laid back then she, and it made her very comfortable to talk to him.

"Yes, I did hear the news." She said excitedly. Evey liked pups. She didn't know why, but the little ones always made her feel warm inside. It brought back memories of her childhood more than anything. She looked back over at where much of the pack still slept and saw a couple younger pups waddling after one another, bringing a grin to her maw. "It's so exciting when the younger ones arrive. They always bring the pack closer." She looked back at Kamin. "Chael and Kiua have known each other for a long time, I'm glad they finally decided to make the big step." She took a couple more berries and munched quietly for a moment, thena dding "I know one of my closest friends, she's essentially family, Karma is thinking of settling down. The fact that there may be even more little ones roaming is such an delightful thought... Oh, do you know Karma?" Evey and Karma talked a lot, but neither had ever mentioned to the other Kamin. Evey wasn't sure if he and Karma had already met.

Kamin smiled as Evey settled into the rhythm of conversation. He munched happily on his fruit, listening to her go on about pups and the pack. He was sort of fond of pups, as well, since they had been a rare occurance in his old pack. Perhaps it was his lack of exposure to pups when he himself was just a little one that had sparked his interest. That was his reasoning for moving here, after all. To find a female he could stay with forever and have his own pups. His ears perked at the mention of Karma and her settling down. Swallowing, he nodded. "Yeah, I've met her. She showed me where the pack was my first night here." He remembered fondly their walk down the path; she really was a good-natured Malu. It pleased him to know she would be a mother. She fit the part almost perfectly. "May I ask whom she's considering?" He didn't mean to be nosey, but he hadn't seen Karma since their walk and was interested in how she was doing.

The fact that Karma had met Kamin already made Evey very happy. Karma was Evey's closest friend, and oldest friend. If Karma approved of Kamin enough to show him how to get to the pack's residence, then Evey believed she must feel he was good natured and one of reasonable intelligence. Not that Evey herself didn't think these things, but the approval of Karma made them more concrete in her mind.

She then paused and pondered his question. Did Karma ever mention who she was considering? Evey didn't remember her saying anyone. How curious. "I'm.. actually not too sure." She giggled slightly at this and added, "Karma would never take such a decision light hearted though. That's probably why she hasn't told me. She's gonna want 'the God of Fate to Decide' her future!" Evey made her voice somewhat like Karma's when she spoke of the God of Fate. Not mocking her, per se, but taking on a Karma type attitude to the situation.

Kamin smirked a little, remembering well that Karma was one to follow fate above other things. "Well, as long as she gets someone she deserves." His words were sincere there, and his head gave a slight nod, as if acknowledging the statement as fact. He was a true beliver that many females deserved more than what they had in their mates, and someone so nice as Karma deffinatley needed a male who was equally as kind. At least, kind to her. His thoughts turned to Evey, who also deserved a Malu that would be kind to her.

After such a serious train of thought, Kamin welcomed lighter conversation with open arms. "You know, that turtle really is ridiculous." His snout pointed towards the little reptile on the bank. Its legs were completely stretched out, and it was seemingly enjoying the warm sun.

Evey chuckled lightly at the sight of the turtle. "Yes, it is funny!" SHe poked it's shell with her paw, hoping for it to pull into it's shell, but it only openned an eye and looked at her lazily.

"I'm sure Karma will find someone that will look after her well. She's not one to make decisions that aren't wise.. or atleast well though out." Evey knew of many males in the pack alone that would be a fitting mate for Karma. Someone with a bit more perk and that was also a bit pensive. She knew someone sporadic would drive Karma insane, she knew she herself did that sometimes. She poked the turtle again to see if it would finally pull into it's shell... but no luck. It continued to sit with a lazy gaze at her.

Kamin smiled warmly, watching Evey amusedly. The turtle was apparently quite used to such childish behavior, and had probablly been pounced on by one too many pups to retreat to his shell with anymore Malu. The male figured the reptile had retreated earlier in the morning merely out of annoyance. "I was pouncing at him earlier. Crazy thing just won't go in that shell." He laughed a little, watching her poke at his shell. It was just too much to pass up. He bat at the creature as well, but it just wouldn't give in to the taunting. Quite the courageous little thing.

"And so who's your dream guy?" Kamin couldn't help but ask. After talking of Karma's love life, the conversation could only shift to one of them, and he was quick to make sure it wasn't him. He didn't mean to put her in a spotlight, but at least there were no other Malu around for embarrasment. A portion of the pack was still snoozing, while others were on thier way towards the temple, where Kamin was sure to end up later in the day.
