More battle classes. Just what he needed.

Well no one could claim he'd been too much of a hermit lately. He'd spent enough time outside for his monthly quota. Especially with the days weather.

Blessed luck for the kid, not so much fun for him. It was raining outside, which left the red-head drenched and grimacing. Not the best of moods to have your teacher in, but he'd have to deal. He wasn't on the best of terms with Haru anyway. He hadn't forgotten that this boy was the one who hadn't shown up to see his egg.

No, Haruki rarely forgot such things.

Still, time to teach meant time to teach. The child was to learn how to defend himself with his bare hands. Not so hard really, there were enough books on self defense to make this a simple enough task.

He rung a bit of water out of his ponytail as he mentally went through the notes on it. That would certainly work.

As the weather worsened Chath's mood seem to brighten, the damp clamey weather made it so his skin was at its perfect moisture level, unsure if he was suppose to bring Keir or not he though he might as well. If the dragon wasn't needed he would sit out, and if he was then well he was there.

He hoped this teacher was friendlier than the others he had come across, man he was glad he didn't want to become a teacher. They all seemed so angry and bitter. Seeing the teacher looking drenched and miserable didn't bring his hopes up much, but then again....he did look cold.

"Hello." he called out, not waving but did offer a large smile.

The teacher eyed the sky contemplating if it might actually stop raining before too long. A negative response if the elements could speak. Clouds of a moody gray showed in every direction, no sign of breaking anytime soon.

He realized he hadn't been paying much attention as the voice caught him off guard. Too busy scowling to notice his student arrived obviously. Well all the better really, it meant getting out of the rain sooner rather than later.

"You actually came this time. That's promising." He glanced at the dragon beside the boy only mildly interested. It was the kind his child would be getting... Would Revon even be able to handle something like that.

Still, all things aside he had a class to teach. "Well, let's begin. Your dragon may rest off to the side. This is a hand to hand defense class, claws will not be involved." He had enough trouble keeping Keivlos from causing problems. "Now, you may be able to regenerate well, but keeping yourself in one piece is always for the best. This class should still be very important to you. If you will disagree with me on that, please leave now. I don't want to waste my time out in the rain."

He paused a moment before continuing. "As well as achknowledging that this is important, you will also need physical strength, timing, and most importantly some battle strategy. Defense is more about predicting your opponenets moves than anything. If you can think ahead and know what is coming blocking or dodging the attack will be all the easier. Not only that, you could plot a counterattack. However, that is not for this class."

Chath looked at the teacher confused, he of course had been too young to remember that fact that he had missed his original oppointment wto see Keir's egg. A bit confused at the teachers greeting he had to wonder if this day would get any worse.

Keir giving a roll to his shoulders then trotted off and laid down his eyes closed and soon he was asleep. this was perfect weather for him as well. THe damp grass was a welcome sight.

Chath nodded his head at the teachers comment about the class being important. regeneration wasn't exactly fun, he would want to save his body the trouble of having to do it if he could. He grinned as the teacher mentioned strength. He had been excercising a lot, going for runs using weights for his arms he hoped his training would pay off. He had only started doing this recently though he hoped what he had done would show off soon.

"I am ready and willing to learn, I do ackolwedge the importance of this class and I hope to be a good student." He replied after the teacher spoke.

Excellent, and yet awful. It was good the kid understood the importance of knowing how to defend one's self. But he still had to stay out in the rain now.

"Alright, then let's begin." He didn't bother to respond to the confused look, he truly didn't care much. "A first rule is to use your opponents strength agaisnt them. Don't try to block an attack head on if you can simply redirect it. It will often set an opponent off-balance leaving them vulnerable to a counter attack." He paused a moment in hopes that it would sink in. "Aside from actually dodging attacks, if you've learned enough to predict them you can block them yourself. This is of course assuming your opponent is unarmed." He wasn't going to teach the kid how to catch a sword in his hands. It was unrealistic and unsafe to say the least.

"But we'll start with using your opponents own strengths against them first. If someone tries to punch you you could redirect the blow with your arm leaving them to continue off to the side. It's effectively similar to sidestepping an attack, but this allow you to keep your ground and stance while leaving you opponent stumbling a few steps further. Thus creating that opening for yourself." He hoped the student was understanding all of this, because he didn't have anyone to demonstrate most of this stuff using. As if he'd be caught trying to punch one of the students, or punch anything in general. Most of today's lesson aside from the lecture would be on methods of dodging. But it was important to start with other possibilities as well.

Chath was tring hard to imagine this senario picturing a oncoming fist to his chest, looking upwards while he thought he raised an arm and tried to picture redirecting the blow to his right side like the was fighting an very slow and invisible target.

"Ok that makes sense, it would still hurt but the damage dealt would be much less than it hit full on." he continued practicing the motion like a mime while pictureing a opponent in his head, "But forcing them to go to the side of you instead of full on it changes their direction, their momentum keeps them giong but their footing is set for a frontal attack...not a side step." He continued trying to explain it all to himself to make sense and also show the teacher he understood.

He nodded. "Yes, the real difference is that you redirect their force slightly which is what sets them off balance the most." He added. "You can always block their attack by catching it, but thise way is the most likely way to cause you harm." If the child missed their mark, or proved not strong enough they'd be taken the hit full on. Not only that, if you caught it wrong you could hurt yourself by having the impact hit wrong with your arms joints. "Blowing an attack with your arms also works as a form of shielding, but again. You will be taking the force of a blow. These two ways are the two I would not recomend to you unless you don't have enough time to try to redirect the blow or dodge it." Yes, using ones arma as a shield could certainly save someone from a worse hit. Such as one to the face. Defense had a lot to do with guaging your choices in a rush and choosing the best bet.

"Of course, we won't focus on those, they're useful, yes. However, the easiest way is simply to learn to use speed and battle sense to dodge attacks. Predict an opponents move and avoid it. This can be variety of things, from rolling away, side-stepping an attack, or perhaps a hand-spring. It really depends on how your opponent is coming at you and their method of attack. If it's a straight un rushing attack moving to the left, or right would be in your best interest. Chances are they would not be able to halt themselves to redirect the attack. Something that is more widespread is best avoided by moving back a bit with a handspring or something of the sort. Battle is rather logical in that sense. If you know how the attack will be hitting you can dodge it easily."

Chath nodded his head and then rethought the words of wisdom the teacher was passing onto him. "Could you explain how to do a hand spring move? I can't exactly picture it in my head." he continued absorbing what he could understand.

It did make sense, why block if you can easily get out of the way? Sidestepping or redirectiona blow not only saves energy but also saves the body from unnecessary pain.

"Um....what style do you think I would be better at? Redirecting attacks? Or dodging them?" He asked curious.

"A hand spring is simply a flip without truly leaving the ground. Instead of using a jump as the entire force to propell yourself you leap forward onto your arms and finish the last half with the initial momentum and the force from your arms. It's use is mainly derived from the fact it can quickly allow you to move over a greater distance than simply jumping forward or back. It's one swift movement, but it also cannot be canceled halfway through. It does leave you at a slight vulnerable spot if your opponent can recover from their first attack first." Of course, all fighting methods had a flaw. It was as simple as that.

"As to which you'd be better at... I believe knowing each method to an extent is the best way to prepare yourself. However, if you'd like to know what best suits each kind. Someone with higher endurance and more strength might be better suited to redirecting an attack or blocking it. They would be able to hold their ground more rather than retreating to avoid the hits. Dodging specializes in speed and grace rather than strength. Whichever you feel suits you better is up to you entirely."

Chath thought for a moment, his facial expression locked in a frown for but a moment. He was trying to get stronger, but thus far he hadbeen dodging Keir's attacks mainly. Now much to do when trying to block acid.

"So...knowing both will help me in the long run, so far I think I have been dodging mostly, since my dragon uh...tests my skills by spiting acid at me I have learned to dodge his attacks fairly well. I can't say I am 100% perfect at perdicting his attacks, I still get hit but I know with time I will get better."

He was still unsure on the hand-spring move but decided against asking the teacher to re-explain it.

"Will you be showing me any moves today?" he asked hopeful.

((I'm so lazy. XD Not switching accounts.))

He nodded as the boy spoke, slight interest showing on his face at the mention of the dragon. That... would work.

As the boy finished up qith a question he closed his eyes. "I don't battle much myself, however... Seeing as you've been practicing with your dragon we might continue that. I'll ask you to use certain methods of dodging for each series of attacks. This should certainly help." Dragons were meant to help their partner, this was just another kind of help.

"Of course, if you dislike dodging acid, or simply want a change you can try your hand at dodging wind magic. I would think this might be more difficult though, seeing as you can't see the wind coming. You'd need tomemorize the timing a lot more." It would be good training though. Still, he'd prefere to deal with the dragon. If the kid got hurt it was less his fault that way.

Chath looked over to where Keir was lying. The dragon had awoken and lifted his head to stare at them. Chath knew exactly what was running through his mind. 'goody another chance to actually be allowed to attack me' Chath grumbeled this in his mind. But then again if he learned some new moves against the dragon then maybe it would disuade him from attacking him when he was in a bad mood.

He turned to the teacher and then chewed on his lower lip. Wind magic? It sounded difficult. How does one block what you cannot see? It sounded like a challange to him.

"Um...could I try blocking your magic. At home I can practice with Keir, but I don't know anyone who has magic to practice with me." He explained hoping that teacher wouldn't be too annoyed.

He nodded at the request. At least it was more admirable to take the challenge of the one he wasn't used to and couldn't see. Rather than what was familiar. "Alright, then." He quickly replied before spinning one hand in the air a moment before quickly sweeping it across in a horizontal. "Duck." Today he'd make things painfully obvious. Even after he stopped giving warning on how the boy should dodge. It would get him in the habit of watching how the attacks came and once the boy was repeating the action. Well it would be second nature. Thus this day might have been worth being turned into a drowned rat over. Just maybe.

He only waited a few seconds to let the boy realize what was going on before repeating the action, though this time lifting his arm up in a vertical line. "Side step." And back down quickly. "Back up." No rest for Chath obviously. Best to get this over with quickly.

As for dodging... Hopefully Chath got the idea quickly or he'd end up with a bundle of nice little cuts. Nothing that would cause horrible damage, but it wasn't as if the teacher was going to go easy on him. If he didn't realize there would be hurt involved with failure he wouldn't realize how important it was to master.

Duck? Chath soon understood what the teacher meant as he repeated the gesture before commanding him to move. So he didn't catch on quite as quickly as he had hoped, the first attack his his shoulder as he couldn't get down fast enough the second he barely missed. But this was something.

He started to reconize the attack the subtle difference in the moves the teacher made that changed the magics direction. He of course was not perfect at this, when too slow he got hit, there were several nice ines across his arms shoulder and a few on his face...

Now that one was a very stupid mistake on his part, instead of sidestepping he stepped backwards. Wrong direction and got hit in the face. It stung his eyes, and this was a new expereince for him. Magic. Sure he was in a magic class but he never actually got to use or learn any magic as of yet, so doing this with the teacher got his hopes up. Maybe he could show Thomas that he was working hard...

((I am oh so lazy.))

At least he was getting the idea somewhat. At least, Haruki was hoping. Still, even with the hints of which way to dodge the boy was taking more than a few cuts. Especially that one on his face. They'd be needing some disinfectant once this was done. Some bandaids too. Did he even have things like that in his offi- wait what was he thinking? Of course he did. Revon as an accident waiting to happen with his brother. He'd learned to keep that stuff everywhere.

But that was for later. For now. "Duck. Back up. Sidestep." Each command was given with just enough time to dodge it now. He was hoping for the boy just to watch his hand and know to move accordingly. Everytime he brought it down quickly it meant an attack from above. Going up with a vertical strike that went backwards. And horizontally was simply that. He'd better get these basics down soon though, before long he'd be needing to dodge two types at once.

There would be no slacking in classes that Haruki taught. "Back up. Duck. Sidestep. Sidestep."
