He had found it, after all these long and grueling months...Chael had found one of the enterances to the sublevel legends of his childhood. In awe, he had actually literally stumbled across it in the woods outside of the temple, a burrow which led straight down to the dark, vast corridors below. Now, as giddy as a kid on Christmas, Chael tore through the temple in search of one thing...his partner in crime. Thayne.

"THAYNE. THHHHAAYYYYYNE!!!" He called, his paws pounding against the stone floor as he raced down one hallway, and down the next. His cerulean eyes scanned the gardens as he passed, looking for any hints of his blue friend. Excitement poured into his heart as it beat loudly against his chest, a wild smirk on his lips. He had been so preoocupied with Kiua lately, that he had forgotten the thrill he had searching for the sublevels.

This certianly was going to be a grand adventure.

Thayne sat down heavily on the ruined tiles in one of the rooms of the Temple. With a puzzled frown marring his usually laid back face he was pondering what was in front of him. He was trying to figure out what the faded and broken mosaic on the wall was trying to articulate, when he heard his name being faintly called. Standing up he walked out into the corridor.

He saw his light blue friend Chael pass by in a perpendicular hall in a great rush calling his name.

"Chael!! Wait up!"

Thayne trotted to this hall and called again. He was immediately excited that his friend was coming to see him! He hadn't seen Chael in the longest time due to Thayne's studies of the Temple and Chael's interest in a certain female. His tail wagging he bounded after his fellow blue Malu.

Perking his ears up as his head turned to spot Thayne exiting one of the corridors behind him, Chael slid to a stop, almost tripping in the process yet he managed to save himself at the last minute. The grin did not leave his maw for a second, and like a young pup he bounded over to Thayne in a hurry.

"Thayne! Long time no see, you'll never...ever, guess what I found. Okay...well actually, you should be able to." The arctic malu chuckled lightly, there was only one thing they had ever really been excited about together...and that was the sublevels. His own tail wagging alongside Thayne's at the same pace, Chael could almost not contain his excitement to jump up and down yelling like a pup.

Thayne watched Chael stop in front of him with a huge grin on his face. After hearing what he had to say, Thayne's eyes became very large and his jaw dropped slowly. Recovering,

"Chael...you don't mean...you mean you finally found the enterence to the sublevels!! Oh my gods and goddesses I don't know what to say...wait yes I do! This is the best news ever!!"

Not being able to conceal his extreme excitement, unlike Chael, he was dancing and jumping about like a baby malu, not unlike little Gabe.

"When should we leave-Now should we leave now?! No wait maybe we should get some supplies! Ah"

And with that he sat down to think out what their next course of action should be with this terribly exciting news.

"I did! I was soo excited, I couldn't wait to find you." Chael smirked, his tail still wagging a mile a minute. He watched as his close childhood friend bounced with glee, almost making him wish to do the same...yet he would save the joy for later.

"We should go now!" He said, eager for the sights and possibilities the subleves were going to bring them. Yet a thought crossed his mind as me smiled sheepishly, "We won't be down there for too long to need supplies...I can't really leave Kiua so close to her due date for too long." he explained, knowing very well Kiua would be worried if he did not return tonight.

Thayne stood back up at Chael's suggestion that they leave right now, but promptly sat down or more fell down when he heard close to Kiua's due date Dumbfounded

"Chael? Did I hear this right? O_o Your going to be a father?!"

Shaking his head, a bit hurt at not knowing about it, but was still so happy for his childhood friend. "Congrats Chael!! I hope they turn out like you so I we can all go on adventures," Thayne chuckled knowing that Malu Mothers don't like to see their children in any sort of danger, even if it is small.

Getting up Thayne nudged Chael. "Well lets get going so Kiua doesn't worry," he said while winking.

Blinking, Chael realized it had been a while since he had seen Thayne who didn't know the news. Smiling proudly, Chael nodded, "Yes, you did! Its so weird to think about...I mean, it seems like yesterday we were running around as tykes. Now i'm going to have my own young running around doing the same." He chuckled merrily, before placing on his own grin. "You better catch up soon, Thayne. I expect we'll need to show -our- kids a thing or two about exploration."

Blushing lightly as he nodded to the comment about Kiua, Chael turned slightly towards one of the exits outside. "Yeah yeah....but she's always worrying since the news of the little one, so its nothing new." He mused, trotting out towards the exit, and then to the woods. "Ya...It seems there are many enterances to the sublevels...I happened to literally stumble on one out here. "

Following Chael, Thayne snorted "Real Chael can you see me as a father! I would forget about them...oh my oh wait never mind" Thayne grinned sheepishly since he had forgotten a little girl malu, Sive but she is a very intelligent girl and he wasn't worried about her.

"Besides I don't know many girls and can't really find myself approaching them without acting as a fool or just being too boring for them. It doesn't really bother me, I like being able to do anything I want to do!" He laughed but it was actually a little hollow. He threw himself into his studies sometimes since he didn't know too many Malu and that it seemed that all the ones he had been close to were drifting away...

"I wonder why we hadn't come across one before? Not that it matters but which part of the woods? I just am wondering since when I was little I remember hearing about those haunted ruins on the north side of the temple, and it would make some sense if the entrance is there...."

As Thayne followed Chael they reached the exit and a warm breeze ran across his fur. He longed for the cool tiles and ruins and hoped the sub levels would be similar in that manner at least.

"I could, Thayne. If you ever got your head out of the inscriptions on the walls and actually talked to one of the females around. You wouldn't believe how many there are now then from when we were kids." Chael spoke with a grin, curious to what kind of girl Thayne would go after. Someone who probably wouldn't mind accompanying him around in his study for knowledge.

"You know, I'm not sure. I had an hypothesis that they are closed up...maybe some of the things down there don't want company?" He spoke, jumping over a log as his eyes scanned the ground for his footsteps. Spotting them he quickly bounded around the large tree and paused at a burrow which looked like it had been covered with branches and leaves. "Thayne! Here it is!" He yelled, looking down into the dark borrow. The fur on the back of his neck lifting at the thought of it.

"Well maybe..." Thayne felt more comfortable craning his neck looking at the groin vault ceilings for hours then to venture out to meet some females.

A chill ran down Thayne's back as Chael yelled by the hole. It did indeed look as if someone or thing had tried to cover it up in the short time that it had taken Chael to get him. He got close and looked up at Chael,

"So do you want me or you to go first?I think you should go since you found it" with a grin "but if you don't want to go first I will!"

Thayne didn't ask in fear but was concerned that it mattered who went first into the gloomy hole. A hole that held the wisps of dreams unspoken through an entire friendship.

It had been odd that in the short period he had left...someone else had discovered that the enterance had been discovered and moved to cover it back up? His only assumption was that something down the hole had wanted to keep it hidden. Shivering in the same mannor as Thayne, his eyes wandered over to his friend, before back to the hole they faced. "How about, we both go....its wide enough that we can both fit. Afterall, we both have been eager for so long.

"C'mon...lets go." he grinned brightly, using his paw to push aside the twigsand leaves. Taking a finaly glance at Thayne, he moved in time with the other male as they made their way down into the sublevels. Only imagining what they would find down there...ruins? treasure? or...something more sinister? "Thayne...What do you think is down here?" Chael asked quietly, letting his eyes adjust to the darkness they now faced.

What would I do without Chael? Always coming up with the simple and prefect answer to everything He thought grinning in response to Chael.

As they walked down Chael asked him what he thought might be down there. Thinking for a second he replied,

"You know Chael we have had a very long time to think on this, while you were finding clues to get the sublevels I was busying myself at looking at the older parts of the temple. I feel the sublevels were built before such that if the desert was closer then it is now that who ever lived here before had a place to live away from the sand storms and heat. Chael, sometimes I wonder if the beings that live here never left but changed...I am not going to lie I am a bit unnerved by the coverings over this hole..."

He drifted off as his eyes adjusted to the light, and there was some light down at the bottom. The dirt hole had transformed into a long bricked corridor with glowing fungus growing in juts and cracks along the walls. The floor was a hard clay floor from many years of various feet walking over it, so it was hard to tell if anything lived down there. Thayne looked at Chael his tail wagging.

"This is it we get to find out now!"

"I feel the same, Thayne. I wasn't even gone for that long...and something already discovered and tried to covered the open enterance. I'm starting to think we might not be welcome down here..." Chael admitted, squinting his eyes slightly as there seemed to be a light down there, and as they approached he seemed to be right. "I sure hope they left...that I do." He muttered as they emerged into the hallway.

Looking around as the fascination returned, Chael had never seen such a beautiful fungi before, as it illuminated the chambers in a faint green glow. It was like an ancient beauty down here, spotting the carvings all along the wall....only able to imagine what they could mean. Taking a few steps foreward with his tail swaying to and fro excitedly, eyes trying to take in everything at once. Then...he saw it.

Freezing up, Chael looked at the lump down the hall, it looked strikingly familliar...as he slowly walked past Thayne and paused before it. Shivering with his eyes wide, he looked back to Thayne. "Its....a dead Malu." Turning his head back to the dead creature, it was a male, adult...by its decomposing...it seemed like he had been down here but a week? He had a few flesh wounds....Chael didn't want to think what could have caused it..as it didn't look like any Predator's teeth marks from around here.

Thayne had wandered over to analyze a particular carving of a two legged creature, but turned to watch Chael go down the tunnel. He gasped when he heard what he had found. Thayne slowly walked down to stand next to him and in front of the deceased Malu. He shivered...somehow the hot bright sun sounded wonderful to him now than it had before.

"Chael....He didn't die of poisonous gases or a normal death that may happen in a place such as this and I can't imagine a jaguar down here!" Thayne looked away. He didn't want to look any more just in case he recognized the poor Malu. A glint by the wall caught his bluish grey eyes. He cautiously padded over, it was round and flat and looked as if a weird creature had been carved on to the front of the tarnished object.

"Hey Chael what do you suppose this is?" Thayne gingerly prodded the thing with his nose till it was in front of Chael.

Shaking his head softly, his eyes wandered over the malu before him once more before deciding he didn't reall want to know what could have done this to him. All Chael was concerned now was that they didn't encounter what had done this to the Malu. "No...I doubt its a jaguar." Chael spoke, taking a glance down the hall and into the darkness.

Blinking as Thayne pushed up a weird looking object to his feet, Chael tilted his head and moved his muzzle down to sniff at it. Inspecting the carving on the front, he raised a brow in confusion. "I...Don't know. Maybe its a picture story...like the ones on the wall?" He motioned his head towards the walls, where similar carvings had been made into the stone.
