Inernal circulation of "Chi"

In this course we have covered the human body in both scientific and magical terms. From acupuncture to mana conduction, our living constructs are complicated things.

Keeping this in mind, research more deeply the Chinese concept of “chi”* and how it can be relative to mana flows. How do you suppose this can be utilized in the future to help humans learn magic? Be as specific as possible.

It was clear to Nathaniel, perhaps far later than it should have been, that simply studying by himself with these limitless resources, was not going to get him anywhere. This strange school, captivating though it was, had more to offer and he had to take those chances and jump upon them. So, this is how he found himself entering the classroom. A real classroom, albeit different than most. He'd never really considered himself someone who wanted to be constrained by classrooms, merely by learning, but he saw instantly that this would be far different.

Bright blue skies, new feelings, all of that was slowly taking its toll upon the boy with emerald eyes. And yet... and yet... his lust for revenge could not be calmed. It burned within him every day and no amount of help from Jaden could change that. The blond was... different. He was special and he was the only who had broken past the British lad's barriers. Now, he had found himself curious as to the ways of friendship. But even this could not quench his thirst. All the enemies had to die, that was the only way to carry out a proper revenge.

So, on this day he found himself in a not so familiar building, walking down a not so familiar path until he passed a door that caught his eye: Study of the Human Body. Perfect. Too perfect almost. Hoisting his bag a little, to keep it adjusted on his shoulder and comfortable, he walked into the room and got his first taste of truth about this school. His eyes scanned the room, ignoring all who might be there and merely focused upon the computers. Eagerly, he sat down at the nearest one and started it up. Though he was better with paper than machines, he did know what he was doing... vaguely.

As he waited, he took out his notebook and pencil. He'd be taking personal notes on this subject as well, perhaps it could help him with certain experiments later.

Wei had been in here for...oh 3 hours by now and he didn't intend on stopping anytime soon. He had packed snacks in his bag and extra supplies because he knew...oh how he knew that he would end up starting and not want to stop.

Studies on the Human Body. This is where he wanted to end up. Just like Daddy. And Kenth some what but more so his father.

Yeah.

On ticked hour number five and Wei was still deeply into the computer screen taking notes, sketching models, diagrams, and he still continued in looking like a total and complete nerd. Without the glasses. Which was fine.

He looked up onto the figure on the screen, describing the circulatory system as he labeled and defined it into his notebook. Oh he loved this class.

Lorioth was making his daily rounds around the science department, his feet carrying him around its hallways in a slow and steady manner. In fact, this routine was so normal to him that he could probably do it blindfolded, and it would still be effortless. His soft footsteps brought him close to the classroom which was set aside for the study of the human body, and as always, his poked his head shyly through the doorway, his emerald green eyes admiring the informative timeline which would itself around the room before alighting on…a student?

The doctor frowned—this was different. He usually never saw anyone within the confines of the classroom, and now that a student had showed up, it threw the whole habitual practice out of balance. Should he continue his rounds? Enter the classroom and check on the youth’s progress? Indecisively biting his lip, the teacher felt much more inclined to just leave the boy to his work, as meeting new people was definitely not one of his favorite things to do. But suppose the youth needed help? Heaven forbid that anyone should say that he had neglected a youngster’s learning when he could have helped.

Making his mind up with a heavy sigh, he walked up the boy’s station, taking notice of his meticulously sketched out diagrams, models, notes, and the snacks bulging in his bag. It seemed he was a diligent worker—now if only he could recall the student’s name…The boy was Asian by the look of it, and there were only two in the school as far as he knew so that would narrow things down. It definitely wasn’t RuiZhi, so that left his brother…The name started with a “w” but other than that, it all but eluded him. Ah, no matter.

“Good work,” the doctor quietly offered from his position behind the student, “especially with the diagrams; you did nicely with those. And your study on the circulatory system seems to be going well.”

"Ah... There was a person behind him? Since when was there a person behind him? Wei wasn't really paying attention to his surroundings, especially while he was sketching out said circulatory system. He probably didn't need to be so exact but he did tend to have a**l retentive ways. Thus why he was often such a good student. He would respond to said person who was behind him without his knowing in....just...a....moment. There! His red colored pencil was getting dull....

Wei turned in his seat, in a rather good mood today, his hands busy on sharpening his colors. "Professor Manneth! Uh...um, thank you. Complexity of the human body fascinates me, so I tend to be rather a**l retentive when it comes to studying it."

The doctor waited patiently as the student meticulously added on a few details on his model of the circulatory system, before the youth turned to respond. Lorioth continued to inspect the boy’s work over his shoulder as he replied. The models, diagrams, and notes were all carefully etched upon the thin sheets of paper and they seemed to be quite complete and thorough for the most past. The teacher wasn’t in the least bit surprised, after all it was the standard for Shinkami’s students to be intelligent.

A slight blush garnished his cheeks as the doctor realized that the student knew who he was, but not vice versa. Well ignorance wasn’t bliss in the case of Lorioth so he bit his lip and smiled apologetically, “I’m sorry, we haven’t met before, have we? You seem to know who I am, but I regret to say that I cannot recall your name at the moment. How scatterbrained of me…it started with a “w.” right?”

Realizing that he was now deviating off topic, the doctor quickly added, “Ahh yes, the human body is quite a fascinating subject to study. It’s quite useful to know about if you’re a doctor. So tell me, is that one of your incentives for studying this?”

Wei chuckled, setting his materials down for a moment, lightly massaging his hand. "Please don't worry, Professor. We haven't personally met but I believe you've met my little brother RuiZhi Tai and I also make sure to know the professors of my chosen path. My name is Weiyuan Leung. From China."

He did believe Rui mentioned the professor at least once and he liked to be somewhat familiar with his professors. Students outnumbered teachers, he didn't expect everyone to know him quite yet.

The brunette glanced at his notes, deciding that a break wouldn't hurt that much. His slightly sloppier handwriting showed proof in his tired muscles. "Somewhat. I intend to follow my father's path into medicine."

Lorioth nodded, as Weiyuan gave his explanation. It made sense, after all. “Yes, I have met RuiZhi before. It is a pleasure to meet you as well, Weiyuan.” The exotic names rolled awkwardly of his tongue—or at least they sounded that way to him, but not being a master of Mandarin Chinese, he knew he was not hitting the proper stresses that needed to accompany each word, so in probability, they were in fact awkwardly rolled off of his tongue. Hopefully, his knowledge of science would make up for what he lacked in the language department…as well as in the name department. Well, he did have an excuse, didn’t he? After all, there were more students in the school than teachers.

“Ahh, medicine…so in other words, you aspire to become a doctor of sorts?” the doctor said, quickly warming up to his new acquaintance. “A most admirable chosen path, but a tedious one as well. However, I see that I don’t need to tell you that you must work very hard to fully take in all the knowledge that you need to know to save lives with your medicine, as you seem to have started doing so already,” Lorioth smiled, a little surprised at himself at how calm he was, considering that he was not at all used to meeting new people. But then again, anyone would endeared the path of science couldn’t be that bad…right?

“Anatomy would very useful indeed to your studies, and though you must work hard, there’s no need to tire yourself out to exhaustion at this point. Your muscles must be really sore from all that writing and sketching,” the teacher added as an afterthought as he had noticed that Weiyuan was massaging his hand before.

The brunette looked down at his hands, sighing a bit. He did intend this day to be completely devoted to his studies, lords know he'd be much farther along in the lesson had he not gotten involved with Rylenn. Nerd.

"I suppose they are a bit tired, though I've become rather accustomed to such tedious work. Learning Chinese characters is more demanding on the user than the Roman alphabet." It was a true fact, the characters required specific strokes at the right length took much more practice to perfect than the Roman alphabet. Learning that seemed so annoying due to its simplicity. Ha! At first it was almost a complete joke to him.

To the British boy, anatomy was nothing more than a way to learn how poison could flow and what it could affect. For every part of the body there was weakness. Something to break, and something to restore it. If the cycle was disrupted, it could very well cause a commotion and a mass outbreak of chaos. People would be dying left and right. One shot of alcohol could kill them and the whole world's equilibrium would no longer exist.

Of course, it wasn't his intentions to destroy the human race. No. He didn't mind so much the human race, scum though some of them were. It was the aliens. However, Nathaniel had no idea how aliens worked and so he was merely trying to further his research in the pure vain hope that someday he would be able to create something so toxic, it could kill them all.

Nowadays, though he wasn't as focused on revenge as he'd previously been, he still enjoyed sitting in a classroom or a library and doing simple research. Books and computers, information and pencils. Everything was at hand and easy to read if you knew where to look and what you wanted. So it could be obviously said that he too was taking down notes, but of a different sort. He was more interested in the human body in terms of action and reaction and not so much the 'way things work'. That he knew, though not in great detail.

It occurred to him, some time later, that another boy was in the classroom and then suddenly a teacher. A professor. The doctor. Nathaniel didn't recall ever meeting that professor, but the other boy seemed to know him. Professor Manneth, had he said? Blinking a little as he looked up and turned from his screen, it was plain and clear the other two hadn't noticed him in there. He hadn't expected them to, and it didn't really bother him. But the chatter was in the back of his head and curiosity compelled him to turn to look at them, whether they saw him or not.

Proper manners dictated to not intrude upon another's conversation, and do not spoke unless spoken to. So after another moment, he faced his work again. Chinese characters? So the boy was from China? Ah, from that recent outbreak expedition not too long ago. It was a shame Nathaniel hadn't gone, but he'd been far too occupied with his own selfish needs and hadn't seen the benefit of it, and in turn, missed out on a great source of research.

It didn't get to him though. He kept working. If they wanted to speak to him, they would. If not, more research could be done. Plain and simple.

Lorioth had no idea that he was being watch by another pair of eyes besides Weiyuan’s, therefore his full attention was directed at the Chinese student in front of him. He nodded sympathetically at the boy’s hands, “Still, you shouldn’t strain them, and being used to doing so isn’t exactly beneficial either…well save for the fact that you could probably hold out longer, but in the end, the same conclusion is reached. Either way, you still tire yourself out. It’ll do you some good to take breaks.”

Chinese characters intrigued him…it was amazing that anyone could remember the some three-thousand or so characters that one had to know in order to even have a meaningful conversation. And then to remember exactly how to pronounce each one? Astounding, simply astounding. Still, science remained as his favorite and even now, it amazed him how perfect and orderly everything was in it.

“And is learning Chinese characters as challenging as understanding the principles of science and applying them to the world?”

The youth chuckled, hands still methodically massaging each other. "It's only hard when you're still young, but science overall is still much more challenging. There's more scientific knowledge than there are characters." Also there were computers now to do the writing for them. It was much easier he'd say. It was easier to learn his culture than it is to not.

Lorioth tilted his head in an interested manner as he considered what the youth had said. “Isn’t it usually easier to learn at a younger age? Your brain is typically more receptive at that point…” the doctor trailed off as he mused over the rest of the boy’s answer once again.

“I see the truth in what you say,” the teacher continued, after a slight pause as he smiled slightly and nodded, a playful sparkle twinkling in his emerald eyes, “yet, for me, I must say that the opposites hold true. I am quite sure that in my case, scientific knowledge is easier to learn than your Chinese characters. But for you, I am sure, you can experience the best of both worlds.”

Still taking note of Weiyuan’s massaging of his wearied hands, the doctor unconsciously let a frown slip upon his fair face, “But you still have a lot of time to sample both language and science, so no need to rush into it and hurt yourself.” The student was obviously an avid learner, and Lorioth thoroughly respected that, although he genuinely cared about the youth's well-being throughout the learning process.
