There were many things on Genevieve's mind when she came downstairs that morning. First and foremost: would there be breakfast waiting, or would she have to make it for herself.
She was surprised to find that, not only was breakfast not waiting, but there was nothing she could make into breakfast.
The only thing in the cupboards and cabinets was a suspiciously dinged and dented box of Jello mix. Lime Jello mix. Of all the flavors of the food which claimed to be "alive," lime was her least favorite, though she'd take a hamburger stepped on by a goat over any kind of Jello.
Nevertheless, she was absolutely starving, and so she set about making the thrice-damned stuff. She had put it in the refrigerator to set when the doorbell rang...

meeer

meet me here the note had said, written in the same neat scrawl that had accompanied his orb, who, was now nestled in the hood of his winter coat. A beige suede color, neatly designed with a fur trum around the hood and wrists. The blonde felt increasingly nervous as he heard footsteps. What to say? 'oh hi i'm, Jay Merlin and I came here because you, a person who I have never met before asked me to meet you? hey, you aren't some over-rich stalker right?'

Jay shook his head and braced himself against the chilly winter winds, why he had decided to drive his motorbike and not catch a bus or taxi was confusing, as by now the roads were covered in ice patchs and the first snow of winter was beginning to fall around him.

As Genevieve stuck her head out the door she heard footsteps. At first, she suspected that some ignoramus had merely been playing ding-dong-ditch, but if that were the case, said ignoramus had not run particularly quickly. She could see a figure bundled up in a blue suede coat with an excess of fur trim. Though, oddly, he didn't seem as though he had been the one to ring the bell.
She sighed. It was frigid outside. She might, at least, offer the person some hospitality.
"Hey, you," she called. It had been a while since she had interacted with another human being. Most of her already poor people skills had abandoned her. "D'you want to come in? It's freezing out here."
Then, for reasons completely unbeknownst to her, she called, as though it were an added enticement, "I've Jello setting in the fridge."

I'm sorry for my prolonged absence. I had RenFeast, and then I was sick, and then I had to go to Princeton Model Congress, and then I was really sick. I'm still home and under the auspices of really sick at the moment.

no problem ^^ I hope you get better soon

Jay blinked in surprise and stood staring at the woman before him for a few moments, before his senses came back to him and he walked inside. Shivering softly at the sudden change in temperature, he wasn't bothered by her rude addressing him, as most of the time people at his college addressed eachother like that. Artists were always rushing about.

"uh...thanks...um did you send me this note?" he asked, holding the note out as he shrugged his large coat off. His golden hair slightly damp from the now melted over clingy snowflakes that had fallen onto him.

"Note?"
She had no idea who this person was. It was completely impossible that she would have sent him a note.
"Ah...No. Sorry."
Genevieve glanced at the kitchen timer. There was still lots of time left until the Jello was done setting. Another glance at her unexpected guest showed her how wet he was. Without thinking about it, she took the heavy coat from his hands and hung it up, and then placed a mug with the left-over hot Jello (which has to be heated before it's poured to set) in his hands.
"Here. I swear, it isn't poisonous, despite its color. It's warm Jello." At this she smiled self-deprecatingly. "And pretty much all that's in the house until I can get out to do some shopping, which - " She looked outside. " - won't be happening any time soon, I'm thinking."

I'm trying.

Jay blinked and looked a bit dejected. It had been a partial waste to drive here in such weather. He stuffed the note back in his pocket, maybe he had gotten the wrong house.

The sudden lose of his coat and the warmth from the mug placed in his hands startled the blonde out of his thoughts, he looked up, genuinelt touched that a stranger had let him into her home and offered him a drink.
"ah...arigato ma'am" he said softly, chucklign softly at her before sipping at the warm Jello. Finding it surprisingly tasty.

"I'm guessing 'you're welcome' is an appropriate reply?" Genevieve said in reply. "I don't speak...Asian?"
She had never been friends with the anime people at her high school, and she had never understood those phrases they tossed around like slang. Though, to be honest, she didn't understand most slang either.
"It's horrible weather," she remarked awkwardly. "Why were you out on a motorcycle-thing?"
In addition to slang, she also didn't speak motor vehicle.

Ah, yeah. I understand Japanese, but it's not something Genevieve would understand. I also speak Car a bit more fluently than she does. Hers is a very specialized education.

Jay blushed, his asian roots had embarassed him yet again, being half english and half japanese. he took on the traits of his mother's appearance and nature and his father's habits and language.

"yes it means that...sorry it just sort of slipped out, usually I stick to english instead of Japanese" Jay was a very gentle and sensitive person, even at twenty years of age he seemed to be sixteen and had the innocence of a 12 or 13 year old. He sipped at the jello and frowned softly, he had been impulsive running of straight after finding the note, even after Alexi warned him about the weather.

"I thought I would meet the Goblin King here, but I guess not. He must just be trying to tease me or something..." he mumbled softly then slapped a hand over his mouth, what if this person didn't know about the orbs and thought him immature and set for being crazy.

At the words Goblin King, Genevieve relaxed and even smiled.
"I'm afraid he's not here, to my knowledge. I've a few things I'd like to say to him myself. And don't worry about the...Japanese? I'm pretty bright. I pick up on things."
She was dying to know what had given him the impression that the Goblin King would be here, of all places, but she couldn't quite bring herself to ask. If he felt like sharing, that was one thing, but it went against her nature to pry.
Belatedly she noticed his reaction when he said Goblin King.
I'm getting rusty, she thought. When she was at the height of her speech and debate career, she would have noticed such a thing at once.
"Don't worry about that. I've an Undera of his. She just grew from her orb," she said, hoping to alleviate his concerns.
As if summoned, a goblin-like Undera conveyed itself from underneath a couch cushion and blew a raspberry at Jay.
"I think that's a greeting," she said, rolling her eyes. "At least, she does it whenever I come back from somewhere."

Jay smiled and placed the mug of Jello on a nearby table, fishing Merethist out of his jacket hood. Where, he had been hiding ever since Genevieve took the jacket from him. He vibrated and made a slightly furious sound, something akin to 'why the hell was I forgotten?' Jay smiled and rubbing any water from Merethist placed him on the floor.

"really?, my partners undera just hatched also, she's beautiful. We're having a conversation yet we don't even know each others names, i'm Jay Merlin" the appearnace of the cheeky Undera had lightened the tense air he was radiating. Well no one would really be comfortable being invited into a strangers house, talking to them without even knowing their name would they? Meanwhile Merethist was hiding behind Jay's foot, the slightly heeled black leather boot he wore a perfect shield from the Undera. Julianna was the only Undera he was fully comfortable with.

Genevieve blushed.
Lacking in social skills. That's me, she chastised herself mentally. Idiot.
"I'm Genevieve DuLac. And the Undera with no manners is Dragul. She's young, too."
Social niceties taken care of, admittedly, long after they ought to have been, Genevieve settled into a chair, almost catching a glimpse of the pastel-colored orb which Dragul was trying to lure out of hiding with encouraging belching noises. She covered her mouth to hide a smile at her Undera. They seemed equally well-versed in social graces, she and Dragul.
She did catch Jay's use of the word "partner" but it was of little import to her. She didn't particularly care if someone else decided their life's partner was a three-headed elephant with a sea gull growing out of its knee, so long as she was not necessarily expected to feel likewise.
"If you don't mind my asking, does your partner's Undera eat odd things?"

"nice to meet you Genevieve, this orb here is Merethist" he said, smiling.

Jay blinked at the question, gently nudging Merethist forward with his foot as he walked over and also took a seat in the chair. the blonde thought for a moment, no she hadn't as far as he knew.

"I don't think so, when Asher brings her round she walways eats normal stuff like toast and tomatoes. Does yours eat weird things then?" he asked, surpressing a smile when Merethist rolled backwards away from the belching Undera.

Obviously not impressed, maybe the orb was catching onto his habit of being polite? He shook the thought off and studied Genevieve. The blonde was slightly confused as to why the Goblin King ahdn't tried to pull all the owners together or why he hadn't met the Owners in person. He had a feeling Asher didn't like the King very much.

"You have no idea," Genevieve said drily in response to his question regarding Dragul's eating habits. "I offer her normal foods and she turns her nose up. But if she can get her hands on a triple-A battery, or perhaps a pen cap she's a perfect pig, devouring them in less than two bites. But then, she's a perfect pig anyway."
She smiled affectionately in the Undera's direction and recommended in a low voice, "Perhaps you should try waving, Dragul. Remember, that thing from the restaurant?"
The Undera cocked her head to one side, noticed that her day-glo hair moved when she did so, and spent several moments tossing her head and enjoying watching her hair fly through the air. When she had finished, she followed Genevieve's advice, waving both hands and arms, rather like someone directing an airplane.
It occured to Genevieve that Dragul's behavior was unlikely to encourage poor Merethist to come any nearer to her, just about the same time it seemed to occur to Dragul, who uttered a disgusted "feh!"-ing sound and latched onto Jay's booted foot.
"Sorry," Genevieve said, wincing. "Leave be, Dragul."
PostPosted: Sat Nov 25, 2006 9:44 am

Jay chuckled at the list and shot a questioning look down at the Undera, who was still trying to get Merethist to come closer. His orb was too stubborn.
"so it seems, with a cast iron stomach too" he commented, surprised eating a battery hadn't made her sick. She'd practically eaten an Acid roll.

Jay listened to Genevieve and focused his attention on the Orb and the Undera, one of his legs had gracefully crossed over the other. and he had leaned back in now apparant ease. he liked talking to Genevieve, no teasign or wisecracks. He was happy about it. He smiled as he watched Dragul flcik her hair back, and watched as the Undera waved frantically, he had to let a small snort of laughter out at that, a hand goign up to cover his mouth.

Merethist had back away again, to the Orb it looked the the Undera was trying to swat at some unknown flying aggrivation. It let out a trill, as if laughing at the Undera. It vibrated in anger as the Undera latched onto Jay's leg and came zooming forward bouncing up and onto Jay's lap, as if competing for attention. Jay smiled at the Undera and Orb.
"don't worry about it, they're still learning" he said softly, leaning down to peel Dragul off his leg and sat the Undera in his lap, as Merethist had moved to rest in the crook of his neck.

"I'm eternally grateful she didn't fall ill after eating the battery. I've no idea what I would have done had she become sick. I don't think the Goblin King makes house calls. But as to her behavior...She needs to learn discipline, else someone will notice her and take her away." The thought made Genevieve blanch very slightly. She'd only had Dragul a short time, but she was quite attached.
She watched Jay deal easily with Merethist and Dragul. She'd never been so easy with anyone. All of her interactions were forced and unnatural to her. She was, in a way, jealous, but more she was intrigued, as she was with all people who seemed confident in their skins. How did they do it?
As she watched, Dragul stole a glance at the orb nestled by Jay's neck and darted with almost preternatural speed to grab the hapless thing, repeating a monosyllable over and over, like a deranged clock.
"Tok! Tok! Tok! Toktoktoktoktoktoktok!"
At this she was somewhat concerned, but more for the orb than Dragul, who had proven quite resilient already.
