Background: Tycho, as a two year old, was found in an overturned car, by a small band of traveling orphans. When he was old enough to ask, the girl who'd rescued him told him she'd done so because she'd liked his violet eyes. Tycho's early life was harsh. His small gang had to keep on the move to avoid the invaders, and other hostile gangs. They raided supermarkets and malls, or foraged in the wild for food. These years weren't without their happy moments, though. The older kids in the gang took it upon themselves to give Tycho as good an education as possible, teaching him arithmetic, reading, and rudimentary science. They were a tight-knit group and managed to survive for many years.

His life in a gang ended when they ran across one of the few established hide-outs from the invaders. The small band of teenagers, now considered adults, and Tycho were absorbed, and gradually separated as first one, then the other was given a job, and shipped off to another part of the world. Tycho remained in the hide-out for several years, put into a foster home where his education was furthered, and where he learned one of his most useful skills. Tycho, it seemed, was a natural thief. Even in the relatively stable surroundings of the hide-out, there was competition for resources. Tycho, who'd had survival drilled into his head since he'd learned to walk, had no reservations against obtaining money and food for his family by taking from others.

However, his exploits were eventually noticed, and since he was at an age where he could be sent elsewhere, the officials at the hide-out sent out messages asking if there was someplace that could train, and handle someone like Tycho. And someone replied that, yes, there was.

A few weeks later, Tycho found himself on a ship for the first time, heading for the Shinkami School for Saviors.

Personality: Tycho's personality reflects his being raised in the school of hard knocks. He's wary, skeptical, secretive, and sometimes outright hostile to those he sees as a threat, and he's positively paranoid about his possessions and food, having far too many memories of near starvation when he was younger. His morals aren't the best either, since he seems almost pemanently set on survival mode, where morals really don't come into play. However, he does feel the need for friends, having grown up in a close gang, and for those he considers members of his gang, he's fanaticaly loyal. A gang whose members don't trust each other is bound to fall apart, and that threatens survival.

To the casual observer, and even to a long-time friend, Tycho seems obsessed with survival. However, there's another side of Tycho that he guards from others, since he feels it's a sign of weakness. Tycho has a boundless enthusiasm for the idea of magic. When his original gang taught him reading, they read stories to him out of a book of fairy tales. Since, at that time, the gang had no idea that the elves had been reawoken, they natually told Tycho that there really was no such thing. Tycho, however was fascinated by the idea of magic. In his young mind, he imagined saying a few words, and having food appear before him, or casting a spell upon hostile gangs to save the day. For many years, he never mentioned the notion to anyone, until he learned that magic, in fact, did exist.

It was a revelation for Tycho at the time, and while he hid it well, when he heard that he was to be transported to a school that could teach him magic, he could hardly wait for the ship to arrive. So, Tycho is actually looking forward to going to the Shinkami School of Saviors.

Thievery System

Since Tycho is an avid thief, there'll be times in an rp when Tycho will try to pick people's pockets, break into their rooms, or shoplift. Since thieving is very much a thing of luck as well as skill, I'll be incorporating the dice roll system into the posts where Tycho attempts to steal something.

Since Tycho is about a moderate thief in skill, he can manage to get away with stealing something about 50% of the time.
If the person he's attempting to steal from is fairly alert, I will roll 1 6 sided dice.
1-3=Tycho gets caught.
4-6= Tycho succeeds.

If the person is distracted by something, Tycho's chances go up. He can get the object 90% of the time.
1= Tycho gets caught.
2-6= Tycho succeeds.

As Tycho's skill progresses, his chances of succeeding will go up, but there'll always be the chance that he'll get caught.
Note: If the person is highly alert, Tycho's not going to try. Too risky.

Who Has Tycho Met?

Nathaniel
I was aware that there was another student on the boat to Shinkami, but I mostly avoided him. Turns out I wasn't missing much. From everything I've seen, he's a soft one. He does seem a little off, though. I think he's hiding something, and I definitely want to find out what before I chance taking my eyes off him.

Shija
Not a bad person, really. Though she seems a bit bird crazy. I don't think I've ever seen so much bird related stuff. At least she had tea, and her house at least seemed pretty safe.

Professor Javelin "the LADY"
How can they let someone like HER teach? And magic, nonetheless! I have no idea how I'm going to get through her class, but I'll be damned before I let herturn me off magic. And what's with the nicknames?! Honestly! Gah.

Professor Ardanay Veilwood, not Professor V, not Ardy, not Proffy Ar.
Heh heh. Professor Ardanay Veilwood was actually okay. Aside from the name and a nasty habit of dragging people around by their clothing. He actually reminds me of Atticus. Too bad he teaches Science.

Heru Araquenosse
... An elf! An honest to goodness elf! He's exactly, well not quite exactly like what I thought an elf would be like. He does seem to be able to get annoyed. But he seemed perfectly noble, otherwise. He also has a crow. I wonder how he tamed it?

Professor Gregs
Yeah, red head. He helped me up when I ran into Heru Araquenoss, so I guess he's okay. I don't really know much about him, though.

Heru Irame
Another elf, and female. She is perhaps one of the nicest people I've ever met, and the head of the Magic Department. She also has oddly colored eyes. One is blue, and the other red, or maybe brown. So we have something in common. I hope I get to talk to her again soon.
