I filled out a feedback form.
I have a fear that one or more moderators, most likely of the Videogames forum (now the Gaming forum) has gotten a little drunk with power.
I'm a member of a guild, the Paladins. (
http://www.gaiaonline.com/forum/guilds/index.php?page_mode=4&guild_id=462 ) We do our best to help new members in the VGD who make posts in the wrong place, and attempt to help the mods keep the forum clean by reporting misplaced and repeat thread. Yes, some of our members can fly off the handle and be jerks, but overall the members of our club are well-behaved and do our best to work -with- the mods, not against them. Beramode has been watching our guild from it's startings, back before the Guild Network was as it is now.
However, I have to believe that our guild has become a target by one or more moderators. One or more moderators seem to go out of their way to come down on members of my guild. We've had threads moved to the chatterbox and recycle bin for silly reasons, like 'It got off topic' (What thread over 300 pages -hasn't- gone off topic at a few places?) or we have been given no reason at all. Many of the threads weren't even out of place, or even breaking any kind of TOS at all. We've had signatures removed that were only a few pixels over the limit, and still not had them restored to us. (Now, I do agree that the members who had thier signatures removed were in the wrong, but there are many, many, many other non-members of this guild who have signatures far over the limit, and still have them on display. All I'm asking is that the mods be fair.)
Two of our members have also been banned. Not permanantly, but still banned. KiriA500 (banned for two weeks) doesn't even know why he was banned. He says he has re-read the TOS and Rules and Guidlines, and found nothing he broke. I always thought you were notified of why you were banned, unless it was something like hacking or scamming. If you don't know what you got banned for, how can you fix it?
Another member, Sgt. Baker, was banned for three days. He is assuming this is because of a silly topic he made in the Videogames forum, expressing his disdain for repeat topics. I didn't get to see the actual thread, but from what I have heard, there was nothing offensive in this thread. He basically said something along the lines of 'If you keep posting repeat topics, the VGD will be lost to them'. It surely does not seem like something deserving of a ban, without even a warning.
My guild members and I are getting very worried about this, and as a higher-ranking member of the guild, I feel it part of my responsibilty to stick up for my friends.
This might not even bother us so much if it seemed like the forum itself was being taken care of, but it's not. There are always many, many repeat threads and misplaced topics. I report them as often as I can, but I hate to bother the mods too much. Beramode, Malee, and even Bazz can vouche for my reporting threads. If this moderator who's policing the people of my guild has so much time to follow us and scrutinize us so closely, why can't they do their actual job of keeping their forum nice? Last I heard, mods were not appointed so that they could abuse their power on a few member that they see as a 'threat' to their power.
Thank you for reading this, and for looking into it. I look forward to hearing any news regarding this subject.
