[ Welcome To Shinkami ]

It was a beautiful day outside of the school. The smell of fresh made tea and the little baked things being made as welcoming snacks filled the nearly empty hallways with a sweet and inviting scent.

Norman was making the final preparations of his speech before heading out to the welcoming ceramony. Another new year was about to begin. He couldn't help but smile, feeling that old excitement again as each new year brought even more talented students and graduates.

With a final look at the mirror and smoothing of his suit, he made his way out of his office and down the halls to the front of the school.

A dias had been raised beside the front entrance and most of the teachers were present. The new students milled around, chatting with one another or just drinking the juices and tea being offered. He nodded to the ones he recognized from the previous years, back again to finish off thier courses.

Lorioth stepped forward, clipboard in hand. He looked a little pressed for time himself. "Sir- It's almost time for your speech, are you ready?"

Norman nodded, clearing his throat as he went over his final notes in his head. "Yes, thank you Lorioth. I hope everything is going alright...?" He cast a sidelong glance at the smaller man, eyebrow raised.

Lorioth waved his clipboard, dismissing any thoughts of 'disorganization'. "Oh yes, yes! Everything is excellent. The mic is ready for you-" He gestured toward the podium. Lori always got SO nervous for these things. After the parted the secretary darted off to hide behind his clipboard and watch.

Norman made his way up the dias, placing his notes on the raised podium. He organized them a little, before looking up and smiling warmly to the audience. He raised his hands, quieting the talk.

"Good morning new and old Shinkami students!" He bowed his head to the audience, then turned to the teachers sitting along the dias. "- and good morning fellow teachers." He offered them a welcoming nod as well before turning back to the students.

"I'm sure all of you are very eager to begin your studies," He grinned at this, hearing the laughs in the crowds. "I'd like to take this opportunity to share with you a few guidelines." He peeked down at his notes, before looking back up.

"Please be aware, there is always a curfew for the dorms. You are welcome to explore our campus- but be in your rooms before dark. It is for your safety. Also, please make yourself well aquianted with the school maps. They are located throughout the campus and are there for your benefit. It is easy to get lost on our sprawling school- and we don't want you late for any of your classes!" He was still smiling, continuing his words.

"If you have any problems settling in during the next few days before classes officially begin, please seek any of the teachers you see beside me-" He gestured to the right, where they all sat. "You may even find me! My office doors are always welcome to you."

"Classes will begin in a few days. Take this opportunity to settle into your rooms, meet your dorm mates, and teachers."

He paused, moving the note cards aside. "We accept and recieve mail regularly. Should you wish to send each other mail, or your families.. please seek the post office located inside the main building. Beside this building is the counsellors office. If you need to speak to someone about any issues at any time, not relating to school OR relating to school, thier doors are open at all times- day or night."

He finished his guidelines, offering a few more rules and regulations, and began discussing the creation of the school and it's goals for the year. It was basically the same every year- with a few additions as he mentioned a few social gatherings they had planned and the invitation for students to sign up for the Shinkami student council.

In the end, he offered his sincere welcome and good lucks to all, thanking them for attending the academy.

"I hope your year with us is worthwhile, enjoyable, and fulfills your goals." He stepped back from the podium, bowing his head to complete the opening ceramony.

And with that, the mini welcoming festivities began.

So Norman was done.

Dante always admired the speed with which the Headmaster did his speech. Being an elf, he was far more used to opening ceremonies that lasted at least three days.

With a usual sigh and an upward cast of hooded eyes, Dante extended his arm as Gilnuir fluttered down onto it, Gelnuir landing on his opposite shoulder.

Hmm. Odd. The three were usually never apart. It was--oh, wait a sec, there he was...attacking one of the new students.

With a heavy sigh he made his way over (rolling his eye at the rather spacious table of a certain cookie labeled "Headmaster Only") and whistled at Glornuir, who croaked and joined Gilnuir on his arm.

"I apologize. Glornuir gets...excited easily. I trust you are not hurt?"

Though the speech was interesting, one of the teachers seated there couldn't help the yawn he had to quickly cover with a hand. What time was it again? Sure, it was the perfectly balmy morning and whatnot, but he had to wake himself out of a seriously wicked dream and wasn't overly pleased. Though having new blood around was always a plus. Fang's eyes flickered over the student body present. Nice, most definately nice. And thank god Norman knew how to keep speeches short and sweet. An uncomfortable grimace crossed his face as he shifted in his seat a bit, drawing the attention of the overly silent man beside him. Sitting down in one spot too long made him uncomfy. Fang was more the type to wander around, smiling and finding someway to make Lorioth blush (like that was hard). Though, behind the scenes, he had already prepared a lot of notes and courses. Though he was just an advisor for the most part, he had to be ready in case anyone had any questions he had to answer.

The year promised to be alot of fun. Of that, he was positive.

When it was all said and done, they both stood at the same time and as Fang wandered off to find where the food was to inhale, Shinji wandered towards the nearest corner he could find.

((Sorry it's short. But it's dinner time XD))

There was always a sense of trying too hard at such ceremonies, the boy felt. Things were more inviting if they were kept simple and refreshingly so. He enjoyed quiet things and tea was excluded from this list for a memorable reason: Mother liked tea. So, in turn, the new student disliked it. Something about his past made his present a terror and his introduction to the island had been no different. His life ahead was starting to be a difficult one and after the short and sweet speech it only got worse.

The poor British boy found himself being attacked by some manner of creature he couldn't quite identify. Luckily, he wasn't one to get roused up and blinked at the thing before trying to hold out a hand to it to calm it down. Obviously it was a plan doomed to fail, in which case he could simply wait with face blank, until the thing decided it was finished.

Life was just a matter of waiting and you passed the time with experiments of sorts. Such as what books you like or don't, what foods taste good or don't and ... what kind of clothing stands up to a rogue... thing. With a shrug of his shoulders he realized the owner of said thing -now called Glornuir- had arrived. Saved by the school's founder!

"I'm alright." He said in a calm voice, bright green eyes looking up at the man. He was intrigued to say the least. It wasn't often he got to do special things and coming to this school was definately special, but now... meeting an extremely interesting ... elf... that was a treat! Nathaniel had been looking forward to this, he felt if he could just learn to understand the books he had read, he could make poisons and vaccines and anything for any species at all... if only given the knowledge and resources.

He observed the other keenly, he himself not being prone to continue a conversation. However, this time would be an exception... "Forgive me if I'm forward, but who are you?" He was definately new all right and he felt a bit nervous and vulnerable straight off the bat (which was entirely understandable, given the circumstances).

Dante nodded to Nathaniel. "Dante Araquenosse...or professor Araquenosse, or Professor Dante. Whichever you wish." His voice remained flat but polite.

"And you are a new student here, correct? Nathaniel, if I'm right? I reviewed your application. Very impressive."

Ah so the other was a professor! The name sounded familiar though, perhaps he'd read it elsewhere. There wasn't time to really dwell on such things however, for it was obvious an answer was needed. As he was pondering on his next statement, some of his thick hair fell into his eyes and he pushed it back rhythmically.

There was a grace in everthing the young boy did. The way his hands moved, or the way he blinked, even perhaps the way he spoke. His diction seemed to have an unearthly perfection and it seemed he put a barrier between the world and himself. It was unintentional, for he wished to have friends, but all the same it was there because of his need to be presentable and live up to the name his parents had given him.

After another moment he gave his answer, with a rather sweet grin on his face. He was the picture of tormented happiness and bubbling eagerness hidden behind a veil. "It is a pleasure to meet you Professor Araquenosse. Yes, my name is Nathaniel Jacobson and thank you for the compliment sir." His smile seemed to widen a little, a crack in the non-existant barrier.

Greg yawned quietly to himself as Norman spoke. This was the same year after year and Greg wasn’t particularly found of sitting there and listening to the same thing that he had listened to last year. Oh well he guessed that he couldn’t get out of it. So he sat there and listened to the same drawling ‘You can’t do this, you can do this, we want you back by this, this is how our classes work’ blah, blah, blah. Thankfully, Norman seemed about as adverse as he was to making the speech longer than it needed to be and he finished quickly. Greg sighed and got up, looking around the room for the several teachers that he liked to talk to, and his eyes came to rest on one in particular. He smirked and made his way over to Dante. The professors crow had attacked a student. Well that meant that the school year was officially started.

"I apologize. Glornuir gets...excited easily. I trust you are not hurt?"

As he heard that Greg had to restrain himself from making a rather rude, but somewhat funny in his opinion, remark. He stopped himself, however, and put a hand on Dantes shoulder as he came up.

“Well yet another student is harassed by your crows. The school year has really started.” He said smiling and shifting his hand so that it was really more his entire forearm that rested on Dante’s shoulder. “I’m Greg Larine, or professor Greg, or Professor Larine, which ever you want to call me by.” he nodded his head. “It’s nice to meet you Nathaniel.”

Off towards the back of the room, curled -well, more like crouched, in a chair, Tycho watched the proceeding with eyes that clearly told that being in a room with this many people was a completely new experience, and one that was wearing on his nerves. He fidgeted occasionally, sometimes because someone came too close, sometimes because he'd have an almost overwhelming urge to jump up, grab all the food, and go hide it someplace.

Norman's speech hadnt done much to ease Tycho's mind, either. Haven had curfews, so he was familiar with those, and felt that breaking them would be just as easy here, though he would have to take magic into account. The prospect of being put into a dorm room with someone he didn't know gave him pause, but he'd been tossed into a foster family at Haven without a by-your-leave, so he could cope with that. What bothered Tycho, was the idea that this school was going to basically train him to fight the invaders. He'd spent enough of his life trying to stay out of danger, that the idea of going off willingly into battle seemed ludicrous. But, perhaps, that wasn't what they really intended. Tycho didn't fully understand how this school was supposed to work, but he supposed that he was willing to learn if it involved magic.

Speaking of magic, weren't there supposed to be elves here? As of yet, Tycho hadn't seen any small, bearded men with a disposition to make toys. That type of elf should stand right out. So, he guessed that these elves were the more Tolkien type. Tall, slender, graceful. Tycho sat up a bit straighter in his chair and looked around to see if he could spy anyone that fit that description in the crowd. And, now that he was looking for it, there did seem to be a person on the stage that looked decidedly elven. He was too far away to see if whoever it was had pointed ears, but he certainly looked graceful enough. He also seemed to have a raven, or a crow sitting on his arm. If that wasn't mystical, Tycho didn't know what was.

Curiosity getting the better of him, Tycho unfolded himself from his crouch, stretching his limbs to the get the blood circulating again. He was going to try to get a closer look. He stood up, picked a path, and weaved through the crowd, making it a bit of a challenge for himself. It would be good training to see if he could get through this kind of crowd without touching anyone.

That gentle, graceful and beautifully haunting face was lifted to look up at the other man. The smile seemed to stay there, plastered on his face with a force that was beyond his control. He wondered if behind it all he really was bothered by the memories and he knew that question was a stupid one.

Who wouldn't be bothered by such things? Shimmering eyes seem to doubt themselves and then he gave a light laugh, normal as any other boy. It wasn't forced, like the rest of him seemed to be. It was as real as the sun and clouds and that was frightening. He seemed to be so in control of himself that nothing slipped past without approval.

In that hauntingly soft voice, filled to the brim with respect, he said gently, finishing his laughter, "The pleasure is mine Professor Larine, do forgive my laughter but your remark gave me reason to believe this happens often?"

Professor Larine found an elbow in his face about five seconds later.

"A new record. So maybe I can stand your prescense for more than just three seconds. Perhaps if I train myself I'll be able to get through a full conversation with a student AND you hanging off of my shoulder for the rest of the year. Ah, look, you've disturbed Gelnuir."

Turning back to Nathaniel he gave the hint of a smile, nodding. "You are welcome. And don't mind the crows; they're very playful and often take their playfulness to the students. Just ignore them if you don't want them around."

Dante blinked a moment and turned his head slightly--oh so sli--ah, there he was, he thought. The other boy.

He prevented from turning his head the all the way around. The child might not want to be discovered--after all, he was one of the more reclusive teachers and understood the sanctity of privacy--and the simple fact that the boy might be trying to do something. That something, however, made him slightly wary and he focused his attention on Nathaniel again, making himself aware of--Tycho? Yes. He DID remember reading that.

((GG asked me to take his characters over temp. so. ))

Javelin's high pitched, jubliant laughter always had its good timing. Or, bad timing for certain person in the auditorium. Her crispy voice echoed in the vast space, and could be heard clearly even without a microphone.

"Welllllllll well, what do we have here? Lotsa lotsa fun students~~~~~" The woman stretched her arms up high, making a semi-perfect arch above her head. She yawned lazily, her talkings nonestop.

"Say, say, how about we make the ceremony to be held outside next time? This place always gives me headaches. So dark and creey feeling, you know? It gives you the kind of 'eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek' feeling that makes you want to scream out loud and throw things around. Norman was smart to make his speech short. After all, I'm sure no one really listens, yes yes yes?"

She laughed again, ignoring the strange looks from a few of the new students. Brushing her thick and long ponytail to her back, Javelin laid her hand on Tycho's collar and literally dragged him close to her.

"Oooooooo what is this?? A sneaky sneaky boy~ You know this is what I love the most. What's your name here, sneaky?" Looking down at Tycho, her bright green eyes narrowed as if inspecting the boy. "I think I'll call you sneaky from now on, it sounds so cute!!"

((Ur.....I hope that fits Jav's personality? ^^; ))

((XPPPPP Yup, that sounds like her.))

Owwwch. Well, there went Tycho's chance. Sounded to him as though Javelin was up to her old tricks again.

Returning most of his attention to Nathaniel, Dante nodded to the boy. "So as I was saying, if you don't like them, just ignore them. They're smart and they'll catch on after two-three times."

((Sorry it's a little short))

Ardanay had smiply been looking for his dear little Lorioth when he noticed the trapped student "talking" to Javelin (aka Professor Lovinghal).

"Looks like ol' Javelin is up trying to get to know one of the new students," he thought to himself.

"And it looks like it's time for a little heroics on my part."

He walked up to the one-sided conversation and harumphed to catch both of the people's attention.

"Excuse me Javelin but I need to take this here youn man in my office to ask him a couple of questions."

She nodded with a dumbstruck look on her face.

Ardanay grabbed the young boy by his sleeve and dragged him to the edge of the crowd.

"I see you've met Professor Lovinghal, what's your nickname?"

Greg had moved his head a little has he had expected the hit. So instead of hitting him straight in the face it hit him on the check. He had made the comment with the hope of Dante growling, but he had expected the hit instead. Ah well. He moved is head and looked back at Nat. “Oh yes, Professor Dante’s birds attack someone every start of every year. Many of our professors count Dante’s bird attack as the true beginning of the year.” He smiled and shrugged. “But they do have a tendency to leave you alone if you wave them off. Or your could try to teach them to say something; Dante makes sure that you don’t get to see them after that.” Greg said with a smile and a chuckle. “Or is that just me?”

Irame ran towards the main hall. She couldn’t believe that she had slept through the first part of the ceremony. She had been pretty tiered and hadn’t gotten up when she had been supposed to. She held some silver clips for her hair in her mouth and held the brush that she was using to brush her hair in her hands. She finished up and put the brush in her robes and clipped her hair up. The braids weren’t too good but they were going to have to do for right now. She skidded to a stop in front of the door and opened the doors. She went to run into the room but she stopped as she ran into someone. She jolted backwards and bowed her head in a form of apology.

“I’m sorry, heru.” She said in apology.

Lorioth sighed, watching as the Headmaster finished his speech. All seemed well with the students as they listened, taking in his words to the best of thier patient capabilites. Once Norman was finished, he darted out from where he'd been 'hiding' and made his way toward the refreshment tables.

"Everything looks very nice!" He called out to the alumni working the booths. He offered them a smile, taking a cup of purple juice before wandering the groups of students to meet them.
