The young adolescent sighed as she stood at the edge of a sandy hill in the middle of the Firekin lands. It was like every other day to her, for the most part. The young lioness solumnly awaited for her father to arrive. She direly anticipated his arrival to their meeting place, since it had been a while she she'd seen her father, even if they were still within the same pride. The Firekin lands were huge, to her atleast.
Motobi'ata smiled slightly and then sat down silently, awaiting for Kavuasi to appear.

Every morning, Kavuasi would excuse himself and make his way out of his family's den, then patrol the area around the Firekin pridelands. Always searching for a sign of Hestia, or his mother... Sometimes he even longed to see the shape of his sister on the horizon. But then his mind would drift away from his job and back to his family, and he would remind himself that his daughter, his pride and joy, was waiting for him to arrive. Then he would trot back to the den, follow her scent, and catch up with her.
That was what Kavu was doing now. Tail flicking the air, he strolled jauntily across the desert sand, humming to himself. Time to see Moto~ Time to see my baby girl~ La la la~ That was what he heard in his head, though the tune that accompanied it was... Well, let's just say Kavu was not all that good of a singer.
Ah, there she was! "Moto!"

The adolescent's eyes lit up with joy as her father was spotted nearby. It was like a dream come true! She hadn't seen her dad in a while. She darted to him, to give him a big hug. "Daddy, I missed you sooo much. I'm ... glad to see you again."
She clung to Kavuasi, and never wanted to let go again. It was the fate of the weak runt. Of course, she wasn't so weak anymore. It was her who wandered away from her own father in the first place.

"Hello, little red." Kavuasi replied, positively beaming. He had never objected to his daughters' clinginess, not once. His other children were growing up far too quickly and were leaving him behind... But not Moto. Not his baby.
Out of all his children, Motobi'ata had stayed closest to his heart. Kavu knew it was not right to have a favorite child, but it was hard for him to stay neutral. After all, even his sons, the ones who were to succeed him, were becoming distant. He supposed it was a curse, one that every parent had to bear. To see one's children grow up... He felt sorry for his parents. Well, his mother anyhow. His father never got the chance to see his cubs turn into adults.
If only he could keep his daughter young forever... It was a selfish thought, but a thought nonetheless. There she was, already almost an adult, able to take care of herself if she wanted to do so. Being an adult was amazing, freeing, but only to the one growing up. Kavu felt a twinge of sadness, but shook it off. Moto would always be his little girl, even after she grew up. Even after she had a family of her own. He had nothing to worry about... right?

Motobi'ata smiled lightly as he spoke to her. It was the best day of her life in a while. "I'm soo happy, daddy. I ... missed you soo much. ... ... soo soo much."
She shrunk, as she thought about it. She truely did miss him. Her father was the greatest lion in her life, and she always was by his side. Although, recently, she had been straying off more and more. She wanted to see what was out there.
"I'm sorry I left you." She shoved her face in his mane, as she shed a few tears. "I'm ... soo sorry."

Kavu nuzzled his daughter's neck comfortingly, blinking back tears of his own. He hated seeing his daughter upset. His voice was shaky as he replied.
"I missed you too, Moto." After a few moments, he cleared his throat. "You're growing up so quickly... But no matter. You're allowed to wander off by yourself, pumpkin. As long as you stay safe, make good choices, and come home often..." He paused.
"I don't like not being able to be around you, but when I was your age I was filled with wanderlust, too. Being trapped, feeling as if you're not allowed to go somewhere, is just going to sap your energy and make you grow to hate these lands. I'd like for you to always feel a fondness for your pride's lands, for the desert and the oasises and everything around and in between them, and if you have to go out and see the world to do so, then so be it." He took a deep breath.
"Of course, if you always want to live here with me and mom, that's good too." A grin. Back to his old cheeky self. Kavu wondered if his daughter would ever know how hard it was for him to give her permission to leave.

"Don't I look amazing? Although, I don't look like you ... or mother." She twitched her ears, as she nodded. "Of course i'll come home often! I love you too much to just ... leave. Anyways, I don't really ... have any friends. I don't need any, as long as I have you around, dad!" She smiled happily.
"Needn't to worry, dad, I will never hate these lands. I might dislike how we act, but I will still love the lands nonetheless. The lands have done nothing to me, just the inhabitants of it, have." She grinned, and then looked to her father.
"I would rather just stay around with you. My siblings have left, and you need company, dad."
----------------------------
Kavuasi took a deep breath, and then smiled down at his daughter fondly. "You know who your markings remind me of? They remind me of my mother, and of my sister." He nodded, glancing down at the sand between his paws. "You have their stripes, and their dots, and their colors. You are my daughter, you are your mother's daughter, but you are Kwana and Kinja's kin." He chuckled. "One day, I would like you to meet my mother. Not Kwana... Kwana is long gone, and I hope that she stays that way. But Kinja... You would like her, Moto. You and your grandmother would get along quite nicely."
Then, he looked back up at Moto with joy shining in his eyes. "I'm glad you'll stay with me, little flame. As long as I have you and Mpeka, my sun will always shine brightly."

"Wow, really? ... I look like grandmom?" She was amused now, as she examined her fur, curiously. " ... ... i've never even met her. Was she a nice mommy?" She questioned, smiling at Kavuasi. The young firekin continued to listen in on what her father told her. Why didn't she know any of these people? Who was Kwana and Kinja? She never even heard him mention them before this.
"Who is Kwana and Kinja? Kinja is my grandmother? ... I wish I could meet her." As Kavu praised her, she smirked widened, as she rocked back and forth with joy. "I'm glad your sun will always shine. Makes me happy!"

"Yes, dearest. She was very kind and sweet... I did not stay with her for very long, but my life has been enriched by the few months that I spent at her side." His tail flicked back and forth as he thought back, back to when he had been a cub, back before he had left. "She left a long time ago, back before I returned to the pride. It has been a long, long time since I have seen her."
"Kwana is my sister... She was always very strong. If she had been less temperamental, she would have made a good queen for the Firekin. But she had a hot head, and she was a danger to your uncle, King Kimeti, and because of that she was shunned. So she left." A long sigh left him, but it was followed by a smile.
"But don't dwell on that. Kwana was a true Firekin, and you should be proud to be her kin, even if... Even if I am not."

Motobi'ata smiled. "Kinja ... she sounded like a really cool mom. I wish I could've met her." She looked down at the ground. "Why did she leave?" If Kinja was a true Firekin, she would've stayed and watched over her family, and see them grow. She was so confused.
As Kavu mentioned Kwana, she tilted her head. "Well, I can see why you wouldn't want her around. But of course I would never dwell on it, father. I am proud to be a Firekin, just not proud of their practices these days ... ..." She sighed heavily, looking to her father.

"I..... I'm not sure." He murmured, looking uncertain. "I think she left because it was painful to stay. My father... He died, you see, and many of my other siblings left after I did, and she couldn't stand to see her family falling apart. So she left."
But then, he perked back up. "But everyone started coming back! Like your aunt Kafara..." Ahh, Kafara... His beloved sister... How he had missed her! "So maybe Kinja will return one day."
"As for the Firekin..." He wrinkled his nose. "Well... Little flame, you must always remember that the Firekin are not the only lions in the world. It may be true that we are favored, but we have fallen far. Soon, though, soon we will have change. I can feel it in my bones... Something big is on the horizon."

She frowned at the mention of Kavu's own father died. Her ears folded back and she looked down. "I'm sorry, dad. I didn't know that happened ... Maybe that is why she left. It is more than a good enough reason." She smiled once more. "So, is that how I came about? ... you returned to the lands and fell in love?" She loved hearing stories!
"I hope change comes soon ... I really do, father. Its unfair what we're doing to slaves. They don't deserve that treatment."

"Yes, I returned and met your mother briefly, and then entered the pride's lands to find your uncle Kimeti taking the throne, and Kwana angrily leaving. And afterwards your mother and I spent more time together, and fell in love." He beamed. Mpeka... His beautiful mate... He was so very lucky.
"When I was your age, I travelled around the world with my mentor. And I met many other lions who were much smarter or stronger than anyone in our pride. Other lions do not deserve to have us lording over them, especially when some of them are better than us."

"Thats neat!" She shook her head in agreement happily. "Mother is very awesome, though ... she scares me sometimes!" She laughed slightly. Mother was quite a powerful Firekin, though. And Motobi'ata always hoped she could also be that strong someday. She just didn't have the right attitude ...
"Wow, really?! Traveled the world? That would be so neat ... I would love to do that someday, when ... I find the right time to do so."

"She can be quite scary!" He laughed, then pressed his nose to her forehead in a fatherly lionkiss. "But she loves you and your sisters and brothers dearly. Don't forget that."
He paused, listening to her, and then nodded. "One day you shall wander the lands past our borders, of that i'm sure. And you will find wonders beyond your imagination. You'll always have a home to come back to as well."
