User Image A peaceful watering hole. The breeze rippled over the water's glassy surface and carressed the thickly leaved branches where Kia lay. Not that there was much of Kia to be seen by the outside world... the branches were drooping with thier foliage and shrouding the female in a blanket of leafy green.

Kia, blissfully unaware of her surroundings, was draped in the cool shadows of the leaves while she lay on a branch closely overhanging the water. She would probably be entirely invisible to the untrained eye if it weren't for her clay-hued tail that was hanging from her barky perch and was brushing the waterhole's surface, and of course there was that whistling, for Kia seemed to think it was a good idea to whistle at this particular moment.

Yes, turning a perfectly round stone over in her beaten paw, she was whistling; whistling and studying a rock. Kia was quite good at passing the time in a useless manner

User Image
Her white paws parted the grass of the savannah softly. Amaterasu's attention had been caught by a sound, a whistle. She had been headed North, but now had lost her train of focus on her heading to investigate the whistling. Not many individuals that she ever ran into in her life could whistle. She squinted to clarify the tree; the whistling was coming from there. It was a lion. A lion in a tree, playing with something in her paw. A lion could eat a maned wolf. Amaterasu kept her distance from the tree, but she simply had to know, "How did you get up there?"

User Image Kia's ears swiveled as they caught the sound of a voice. Quite confused, her brows knitted tightly together. Who could be talking... what sort of creature. She could tell by it's voice that it was a female, but otherwise she was rather in the dark.... or more in the tree for its thick, leafy branches prevented her from determining anymore.

Curiosity echoed it's pronounced voice inside Kia's head, she wanted to know who was speaking to her and bit her lip, wobbling about on the branch trying to turn in such a way that she could see who was speaking to her. Until then though she would stall the creature... just in case she was dangerous.

"Why.... I climbed" she answered simply with a smile "How did you get down there?" she turned in circles a few times, but couldn't decide where the voice came from, let alone how to get down easily from the blasted branch she was sitting on.

Amaterasu couldn't help but giggle at the shaky mass of leaves. She could tell the lion wasn't dangerous from the tone of her voice. To answer the lion's question, "Well, gosh. I don't know how I got down here... I've just kinda always been down here..." She tried to rationalize. "I didn't know lions could climb, that's all." Amaterasu said, explaining why she had asked. She came forward a bit to get a better look at the lion in the tree, head tilted the whole time.

User Image "I suppose some can climb" she said with a shakiness that was attributed to even further by her wobbling around and occasionally losing balance on her branch "Unfortunately I cannot." this was said in a sad sort of way. Obviously she did have some degree of climbing experience, but this particular tree branch was low enough to the ground that she could jump to and catch hold on, but, unfortunately for Kia, weighing against the little climbing skills she did posess she could scarcely ever get down from a tree when she got onto it and this branch was hanging over water. and well.... Kia did not feel like getting wet

"ohh..." she groaned, realizing the perplexing path about the tangled tree she would have to take to get to dry ground and eyeing the tiny perfect rock in her paw "can you make things quite a bit easier and tell me what sort of animal you are? That way I know whether or not I will have to be afraid of you" bluntness was something that Kia had mastered over the moons of her exsistance

Ammy chuckled again. This lionness sounded like she was her type. "I'm a maned wolf, nothing to be afraid of. My name is Amaterasu, but you can call me Ammy for short," Amaterasu yelled to the lionness in the tree, "Is there anything else I can do to help out?" Ammy was at the base of the tree by now, and watched the lionness with interest. She hoped the lionness wouldn't fall in, for Kia's sake.

User Image Kia breathed a deep sigh of relief. Maned wolves were quite friendly for the most part, at least she had never stumbled across a disagreeable one. At least she wasn't faced with something dreadful like a hyena, those were always awful.

"Nice to meet you Ammy" she cried out "I'm Kia"

she continued chewing on her lip though, for even though there was one problem solved there were still two particular problems that were in need of fixing. The first was getting down from the tree and the second was saving that rock. Most of the time Kia would have been happy to take a dip in a watering hole especially on a day as beautiful as this one was, but it was her fortune to stumble across a rock so perfectly round as this one that she found in this tree and she didn't wish to risk losing it by knocking it into the water.

"Actually I am experiencing a bit of a problem up here." she stared at the object of her perplexion "Ammy are you any good at saving rocks?"
PostPosted: Sun Nov 12, 2006 2:22 pm

"Saving rocks?" Ammy repeated, perplexed. What does she mean, saving rocks? Like a rock collection? She pondered to herself, with a strange look on her face. She hadn't ever known an animal to have a rock collection... Then it hit Amaterasu, the thing in the lionness' paw when she first saw her, it must have been a rock! "You mean catching them? I don't know, I've never tried. But I'm really good at catching food in my mouth!" Ammy offered, looking upward into the tree near Kia, waiting for a response.

User Image Her face brightened quite a bit, and though it may have been difficult to see her face the other probably could have been able to tell by Kia's tone of voice that she was pleased.

"Brilliant!" she grinned "Yes! You can catch it with your mouth! I had never thought of that!" finally she was able to locate Ammy's position by where her voice came from and she positioned herself in the proper way as to be able to kick the rock for she couldn't think of a better way to go about flinging it out of the tree.

"Okay Ammy! I'm gonna kick 'er to ya!" she smiled in a silly fashion, drawing back her forepaw to deliver a powerful blow to the rock "One.... Twoo..... THREE!" with that her paw touched surface with the rock and the rock came flying out of the branches towards Ammy's direction, or so it seemed to Kia who wasted no time in jumping off of the branch and into the water now that she believed her little rock to be saved.

The lionness' aim had been perfect, it was headed right towards Ammy, but the power had been a little short. The way the rock was headed, it wouldn't make it to land. Ammy had to uphold her good-catching reputation, and she knew the little rock was important to Kia too. Ammy got to the shore of the water and lept, mouth open to save the rock from a watery doom. Her jaws snapped shut over the perfect sphere, and she kept it pressed between her tongue and the roof of her mouth. It would be slobbery, but at least it would be safe.
Ammy hit the water with a loud sploosh, and headed back to the shore. She had lept a surprising amount out into the water, she was quite pleased with herself. She glanced over at Kia and gave her a wink and a smile to signify she had the pebble.

User Image Kia hit the water with a large splash, but didn't stay under much longer than a second or two for fear of her poor rock's fate. Nervously she surfaced, but didn't open her eyes at first for slight fear that the plans had gone askew. Once she had opened her eyes however, she saw a reassuring smile from Ammy that caused Kia to squeal with delight.

"You saved it!" she gurgled happily from the water as she doggy-paddled to shore. Once her feet touched shallow ground she craned her neck, looking on the ground like an overprotective mother for the rock that she had found, looking rather droopy with her fur weighed down with all that water. She searched dry ground for it, but suspected that Ammy had hidden it somewhere safe just for Kia. She grinned.

This had been the first good look at the lionness Amaterasu had. She was much larger than Ammy, and probably stronger too. Amaterasu reached the shore, all the poof taken out of her coat and tail as well, and spat out the pebble at Kia's feet. "I'm sorry for the slobbery state of your pebble, but it's better than having it be lost at the bottom of the pond, right?" Ammy asked. She jumped out of reach of the lionness and shook the water out of her coat before returning, panting from the swim. It had been a long time since she last swam, and she felt rejuvenated.

User Image Her green eyes scanned over the tiny pebble now resting at her feet, slimed over with a thin coat of saliva and dark in hue from its wetness, but her eyes still glowed with pride.

"It's perfect isn't it?" a warm smile was spread across her face "look at how round it is. Absolutely round! The picture exactly of perfection." She googled over the small pebble at her feet for a couple more minutes. True, it was perfectly round, but it didn't seem to be anything absolutely spectacular. To most it would seem like an ordinary rock, but to Kia it was special.

She poked at the rock lightly with a gently extended claw for a few seconds, ignoring the drooping and dripping state that she was currently in.

"It is pretty round," Ammy said, nodding in agreement, lowering her head to the rock. "So where are you from?" Ammy asked. She assumed that at this moment in time, Kia was a rogue, but one never knows. Ammy rather liked Kia, and would certainly feel bad when their paths unevitably would part, but she wouldn't worry about that for now. This was the first friendly lion she had ever met, and she was going to enjoy her time with the lionness.

User Image Kia stopped ga-ga-ing over her little rock at the moment that a question was asked of her. At this point she looked back up at Ammy blankly as if she were deep in thought, but this phase passed as quick as a cool breeze on a hot summer's day

"I come from everywhere" she said with a proud, boasting smile "I dont really have a home it's just wherever these take me" she bobbed her head towards her feet that she turned over to show off to her new found friend.

"Do you come from any place specific? or are you also a rambler... an adventurist.... or an expeditionologist! like me!" she grinned, obviously enjoying making up fancy names for herself that sounded a bit more regal than 'rogue'
