To fellow V.F.D. members..
I was hoping this could be a thread where people could discuss ideas for guild events. Seeing as there's a lot to A Series of Unfortunate Events, there are many different things we could do for fun and since there aren't any more books to the series coming out, I hope to keep this guild as active as possible.
So post any ideas here, or comment on other people's.
There were a couple ideas that I had and I'd like some feedback on them..
Masquerade Ball: As I'm sure many of you know, it was at a masquerade ball where Lemony tried to warn Beatrice and an incident occured with poisoned darts. This may be a fun ball for us volunteers and as costumes are essential to any V.F.D. member, that would be a must.
Volunteer of the month: This could be a way to recognize a different volunteer each month who has been active, posted interesting things about the books, or made some kind of contribution to the guild.

Ooo! I love both ideas so far! How would the ball work? I take it'd be in the forums not in real life since I'm sure we're from all over the place? And dress our avvys as VFD?
Let's see what I can think of:
Sebald Contest: Prize to whoever can write the most coherent Sebald message?
Various Finery Disguises: Any costumers out there? Prize for best ASOUE related costume?
I'll see if I can think of any more. ^_^

oooh I think all those ideas are excellent.
I don't know if this is a great idea but we could have scenarios and we would have to act and think like the Baudelaires to resolve the problem.
And we could also have various people recruiting new members by speaking in code in forums.

Rurouni Starchild: For the costume contest, would it be using tektek or actual avvies dressed up?

That might draw an interesting (and hopefully ASOUE related) crowd. ^^; Is there a way to PM all the members? But making an announcement sticky would be a good start. Perhaps on a day that's somehow cordinated with the books? Like first publishing date or something? For the costume contest, I was actually thinking real life costuming. But avatars (tektek or otherwise) could be a good alternative if not many people are into costuming.

I belive a RPG fourum a phrase which here means "a place to pretend your something your not just for the fun of it although it can be quite disaturuse" would be fun and maybe should be looked in to.

We have tried roleplaying threads in the past, but they didn't last very long. We don't have enough in the guild account for subforums yet, but organized roleplaying threads are allowed in the main forum. 3nodding

Oooo... These all sound like great events (except the roleplay... not that it's a bad idea, it just doesn't seem to work). Personally, I think the costume contest should be with your actual avie... Perhaps during the masquerade? Makes sense to me. Advertising outside the guild seems like a good idea too, for the masquerade, I mean. More people, more mingling. Sounds good to me.

Most people could afford to pay 25-50 gold for a masquerade, and they probably would. Give them a chance to show off their avatars and such. You could even advertise it as a fundraiser type thing.
