An exasperated sigh was all the sound that the stallion made as he trudged across the barren hillsides, barely taking notice of the light layer of frost that had formed over the top of the grass. A flickering trail of light lit his way, the flame on his tail burning brightly in the night air. Sometimes the flame was a hindrance- attracting preadators and such, but on nights such as this, it was a source of warmth and light that he appreciated immensely. Coming to an abrupt halt before his favorite tree, the oddly-colored stallion laid down quietly, letting golden eyes slide closed as he drifted into a light slumber.

Brrr! It was cold out here... Not yet grown into her full winter's coat, not that it was much to begin with, the stout little mare shivered as she trotted along over the brittle grass. Her braid tail brushed her hocks as she moved along smartly, the short bristle of mane brushing her neck. Tossing her head lightly, she let out a playful whinny, the sound speaking much about her mood right now.
After a moment, her pace picked up till she loped over the grass, enjoying the pleasant burn of her muscles as they stretched and warmed. Oh, life was good!

A soft noise drew the attention of the now suddenly wide-awake and alert stallion, and he was almost immediately on his feet again, golden eyes narrowed as they scanned for signs of the intruder. Upon spotting the curiously petite-looking silouhette in the distance, he relaxed a bit, although not completely. Appearances could be deceiving, after all. Still, he reminded himself (rather exasperatedly), this place was not at war, and he didn't need to be on guard all the time anymore. There was no corruption here, no pollution, no fighting... no need for him to be bringing those things with him.
That settled with himself, he straightened up with a faint smile, tilting his head to one side curiously as the striped mare approached. "Salutations, miss."

A bright laugh split the air as the pure joy of the crisp day overcame any retraint the little mare might have had. So full of life, she couldn't handle it any more. Her body burst up into the air, her heels kicking out. She jumped gaily, a grin on her face as she frolicked and danced. Grass crunched under her hooves, the air nipping at the bare, sensitive parts of her face.
So lost in her play, the zorse mare almost didn't notice the other till she smacked into him, skidding to a halt meer inches from the collision. "Oh, my!" She gasped out, panting for air as her eyes shone from the exertion. "Oh.... oh my! I'm so sorry!" She blushed under her brown fur as she stumbled back, suddenly strangely bumbling, lacking the grace she'd displayed moments before.

A small grin adorned his masculine features as golden eyes watched the energetic mare intently, wondering when the last time he'd felt like that was... the last time he'd gone for a run, or roared to the night sky (even though he doubted he could roar or howl anymore). A low chuckle escaped his throat as she skidded to an abrupt halt mere inches before him, dismissing her apology with a gentle shake of his head. "It's quite all right, there's no need to apologize, no harm done."
He took a moment to eye her curiously, noting to himself that he'd never come across another soquili with stripes. He blinked after a moment when the air fell quiet around them, offering somewhat of a sheepish grin as he allowed his head to drop in a curt greeting. "Pardon my rudeness, but my name is Nanaki."

A blushed heated her mohagany fur as his bright eyes slid over her. Small hooves shifted on the grass as she moved rather nervously, the short points of her ears pressed back in a sudden fit of shyness. Silly mare... she should have been watching where she was going. She never would have burst in on him like this and made a complete donkey of herself if she hadn't already been acting like one, bouncing acrossed the field like that.
She ducked her head in embarassment as he then appologized to her for rudeness, as if he was the one who'd nearly slammed into her! While it did make her restive to have a stallion speak like that to her, it also helped set aside her usual fear of new horses with the gentle tone of his voice. New humans... that was nothing! Bring them on, and she never flinched, never wavered. But put her in the field with a big, strange, handsome stallion, and she turned into a filly again, starting at shadows.
"Oh, um... No appologies necessary, Nanaki. My names Orah... I hope I didn't wake you, acting like such a silly little filly. I was just... feeling the crisp air, you know. I couldn't keep my hooves on the ground." Her thick neck bowed in a smooth arc as the zorse mare ducked her head again, setting her short bristle of a mane bouncing against it.
