Ancient Egypt is an obsession for me. Yeah, that pretty much sums it up. I'm always anxious for new reading materials or discussing past books with others. I was ecstatic when my professor in History of Medicine assigned us to get the text Ancient Egyptian Magic by Bob Brier as a required reading for that course. Like I needed any more encouragement in my interest, right?

Recently I discovered a reference book on Ancient Egypt at a discounted Borders store. I haven't had the chance to do more than skim it, but there are a lot of wonderful pictures and I've been told that it's very informative without being overly detailed.

So is there anyone else in love with this time period like me? Do you have a particular favorite historical figure? Any book recommendations?

I also enjoy learning about Egypt...unfortunately, it's one of the interests of mine which I haven't been able to indulge much. If you could recommend some books, I'd love to read them...particularly mythology.

Before the terrorism issues began, my family was actually planning a trip TO egypt, to see the pyramids...I was so excited and everything..

I am currently reading John Romer's classic Valley of the Kings at the moment. I have to confess that I particularly like it. I like how he gives comparisons to how Egypt looked during ancient times, but also in the present. Geographic descriptions usually bore me and I somehow took a liking toward the ones expressed in this book. I enjoy his analysis of the times and the customs.

A couple of my friends and I are very interested in ancient Egypt. I've got a couple of books on Egyptian mythology, and one of my friends has a book on ancient Egyptian society and culture. I'm also interested in ancient Greece and Rome, and I love learning about different myths and such.

I find the mythology fascinating and the culture very interesting too.

Of all the ancient gods in the entire WORLD, Thoth happens to be my favorite. Protector of language, wisdom, magic, and all written work. Not to mention he's got an ibis head. That's pretty sweet. A few of my friends say that he's a dorky god, but I say that once they kick it they're screwed because he's one of the people who's going to determine if you go to the afterlife or get eaten by Ammit the crocodile-leopard-hippopotamus monster.

That is, if you believe in that mythos, that is. sweatdrop

I personally like Ganesh better, but some people actually believe in him... darn, personally, I think he's worth converting for, though biggrin

There's a book called Mask of Ra I think.... I don't remember, but I think it was about people getting killed in different temples in the patron god's preferred style.

If not, it'd make a great story, that's for sure biggrin
