Chai'en River

This lazy river is long and is filled with much plant life, it is a very good fishing spot, and can yield a very large bounty of fish.

Down on the bank of the river, a green angel crept, looking very intently at the ground as she shuffled her feet slowly along the light surf. Moments later, she grinned and dropped the basket she carried on the shore to her right. "Ah ha! There you are!" Stooping low, she began gathering handfuls of what looked like seaweed from the riverbed. While not exactly seaweed, it looked similar and was a freshwater version of the aquatic plant...though she didn't know it's exact name. "This will make a lovely salad to go with tonight's dinner," she murmured to herself, "plus, it's good for preventing colds. With all the rain lately, we can't have people getting sick..."

She paused, shaking her head. Why did she keep doing this? She really needed to stop talking to herself, as well as all this random knowledge about plants and cures and preventions...

One of these days, some Pae'il was going to come along and think she was completely out of her mind.

Quinn hurried up the riverbank, Siva on her hip. He was truthfully too heavy for her to carry at this pace but the rain was coming down steadily and the boy was already fussy about being wet. She hurried along with the child and his twin sister scurrying along behind as best she could. The demon wished the kids were strong enough to fly in this weather; they'd have found shelter by now. Luckily she could see another pae; maybe it would provide them shelter from the storm.

Kali panted as she hurried to keep up with her mom and brother. Finally at her end she paused and doubled over to catch her breath. Standing back up she shivered and stared down the river until she caught sight of a figure stooping in the water. With renewed energy she pushed herself forward.

The sound of splashing caught Takeko's attention and she glanced up curiously. What other Pae'il would be out in the rain like this? Shouldn't they be indoors? As they grew closer, she could discern the vague shape of an older female demon...and two children?

Eyes widening, Takeko quickly tossed her gathered plants into the basket and scooped it up as she splashed up out of the water and onto the bank. She waved an arm at the group and shouted out in greeting. "Hello there! If you're not on your way somewhere, I could suggest somewhere close to here that's a little more fitting for this sort of weather!"

The voice was like an angel's; no, it didn't have a heavenly ring with rays of light, but it did offer shelter. That was music to Quinn's ears. "Come on, Kali. Let's get out of this weather."

More pleasant words were never uttered to the little angel child. She kicked up her little legs hard as she sprinted toward the strange new pae. However, she slipped and faceplanted.

Quinn grimaced and set Siva down. "Go on," she urged him before rushing to pick up Kali.

Siva sniffled and walked through the rain slowly, sliding on the muddy path. He wasn't liking this 'rain' stuff one bit. He wanted it to be sunny again.

Spying the little male child, Takeko tossed the handle of the basket over her arm to free up her hands before hurrying forwards to meet the boy. She nodded to the adult demon close behind, then smiled at the boy. "Come here, darling. It's not far from here, if we hurry." She scooped the little one into her arms, that familiar warmth growing in her chest as she held the small boy close to shield him from the rain.

"This way!" she called to the other adult over the sound of the pouring rain. "My home is just up the riverbank. We'll be there in minutes!" With that, she turned, jogging upriver and leaning over to try and shield the child from the cold rain, though the odd angle at which it was falling made that difficult. She wondered if Aspen would be home when they got there...he hadn't been there when she'd gone out to get the seaweed for their salads, but he could still be getting the rest of their dinner...

Quinn hurried up the bank behind the kind-hearted angel. She clutched a muddy Kali to her body as she scurried, the rain making her eyes burn and her hair cling limply to her body. It was times like this when a pae realized just how heavy wet hair could get.

Kali cling to Quinn, nonplussed at her state of dirtiness. In any other case playing in mud would have been fun, but the little angel child was cold and tired.

Siva clung to the angel adult. If his mom thought she was safe, then he'd trust her as long as she shielded the rain.

Takeko hurried up to her simple riverside home, pushing open the door and slipping inside. She held the door for the demon woman close behind her and smiled warmly. "Welcome to my humble abode. Forgive the simplicity, but we don't get many visitors out here. Could I get you some hot tea or something else to drink? Snacks perhaps?"
