My husband kept trying to teach our son Chinese, so his first word technically was "Bu Hao!", which means "I'm doing terribly!" In other words, he wanted attention, and we were trying to have a conversation.

Nobody knows what my first word was, they assume some derivation of "mama" - gotta love being a third/fourth child.

My husband's first word was "light". He's always had a bit of a thing for shiny stuff and being some sort of crusader for good...

My favorite is my middle sister - her first word was "umbrella" - she didn't want to say anything until she was positive she could say something impressive and say it right!

Jen's first word was "DaDa". But the first phrase she said that I really treasured was sometimes I would ask what we were going to do with her and she would beam and say "Just Lub (love) Me!"

My first word was ' New ' I think. It's what my mom says.
My eldest twin's first was ' Tuky' was is short for turkey because it was thanks giving.
My younger twin, I swear I thought she was mute. She never said a word until she hit 2 and she said 'sister', which I thought was cute!
Darien, my son, his first word was 'dead'. This was around the time that my own twin, my loyal brother, died and I had to tell Darien, even though he was so young, why mommy was crying.

Wow, my daughter just said her first word last night! "Ah-mee" (Mommy). SQUEEEEE!!! To be fair, I think she meant she was hungry, but she thinks of me and milk as synonymous (she greets me with an open mouth, while Daddy gets a smile). She's only seven weeks old. I think that qualifies her as a big talker waiting to happen. whee

When Ariana gets to crying real good, like when I'm sleeping and she's hungry, she'll say something. Sounds like "aaaamaaamaaaa." She also randomly shouts DA. I don't know if it counts as a first word, but I think it does... lol.

Another thing she did, at only a month old, when we were in New York visiting my in-laws. We were in the motel, and she was crying again. She made a long sound that sounded just like "I hate you." eek Both my husband and I heard it, and heard exactly the same thing. We didn't read too much into it. We both know she doesn't. At least, not yet. wink

My daughter's fist word was"hi". She was in her bassinett, I looked over and she smiled and just belted out "hi". But now she says dada-dad, ada-audra(me), ga-kitty. (i have no idea why she call kitty "Ga")

*RESURRECTS THREAD*

MY DAUGHTER'S FIRST WORD WAS WHEN SHE WAS AROUND 3 WEEKS OLD. MY MOTHER HAD JUST COME IN THE DOOR, AND I PICKED KEELIN UP SAYING, "LET'S GO TELL GRANDMA 'HI'," AND KEELIN LOOKED AT MY MOTHER AND GRINNED AND SAID 'HI!' CLEAR AS A BELL.

OF COURSE, I WAS SURE SHE WAS A PRODIGY, AND WAS TOTALLY CRUSHED WHEN SHE DIDN'T MUTTER ANYTHING REMOTELY WORD-LIKE AGAIN UNTIL SHE WAS ABOUT 8 MONTHS OLD. LOL.

HER FIRST REAL WORD WAS DURING A BATH. WE HAVE AN ENORMOUS 7-11 BIG GULP CUP WE USE TO DUMP WATER OVER HER HEAD BECAUSE SHE REFUSES TO LAY BACK IN THE TUB TO RINSE HER HAIR, AND I'D DUMPED ABOUT 3 CUPS OVER HER HEAD TO GET THE SHAMPOO OUT, THEN SHE PUT A HAND UP OVER HER HEAD AND SHOUTED "STUCKIT!" (STOP IT!)

I ABOUT DIED LAUGHING.

My son's first "word" was actually a meow! We had three cats at the time and he loved them. He giggles when I tell him how the cats taught him to speak.. lol.

Nothing from my baby yet, but she is only 6 months. I hope it's some form of "mama". xd
