Ok, I know I you're supposed to start praying at a young age, but I just started praying all 5 prayers everyday, and I was wondering what everyone else thought about praying. Should it be less prayers a day, like three? Or two? What about only two rakads(?sp?) in each prayer?

I don't think so. Maybe he did pray 50 times, or more, but I'm pretty sure you were only required to pray 5 times a day even back then.

It is true I talked to my elders. I have alot of Muslim brothers who are scholars that are teaching me arabic. So when my parents are discussing things I go to them to confirm it and it is true.

also men and women used to pray together in the prophets days because muslims were more modest and pias. Now muslim (mostly men) change it.
No tight clothes, makeup, excessive jewlery. If you cover your head the covering should never fall of or partly cover. No abortions. No partaking at all in christmas, halloween, easter, diwali (they say prayers or something to the food). As in giving or accepting. No drinking, smoking, drawing to make money or animating it is haram. Only drawing for educational purposes. no mind reading, palm reading, horoscopes, etc...

Well, that's a really strict way of Islam. Where I'm living, men and women pray together, just with the women behind the men so that the men can't see the women, and makeup is accepted. Not to mention we celebrate the fun part of holidays, and we draw whenever we fell like it.

I personally find it hard to believe this. Why on earth would God not allow us to draw for a profit? As long as it's not offensive, you should be able to draw for whatever reason you want.

I have been looking up this drawing thing, and I read this hadith. The basic summary of the hadith was, do not draw anything in likeness to Allah's creations, such as an eye or anything. In the day of judgement, you will be asked to put life into this form and since you canot give life, you will be punished.

I'm not really sure about it yet, I'm still trying to search for proofs, check with your imam. wink

This is how it goes (or so I have heard)
Muhammad (PBUH) when he went to jannah that time, Allah told him his people must pray fifty times a day. So Muhammad (PBUH) agreed and then Musa said it would be too much. So the prophet went back and came back, but Musa always said it was too much. Finally, after it being reduced to five, Muhammad (PBUH) said to Musa, "I will follow what my lord tells me." And that is how we got five times a day.

I'll look that one up to, I apologize if it's wrong.

Now, you pray five times a day, fajr (2 rakah) in the early morning, zuhr (4 rakakh) at noon, (asr, 4 rakah) afternoon, (maghrib) 3 rakah sunset, isha, (4 raka) night.

Sunnah is two rakahs. On some prayers you can pray it both before and after, on some, only after. I think maghrib allows only before, and zuhr allows both.

I started praying five times a day when I was ten, I think.

I've heard that hadith a few years back...aparently that means you cant have photo's of your self or your family? because you yourself are a creation of allah...
but i guess drawing a stick man or drawing some anime shouldnt be any harm....

Uh, what? It was the PROPHET who instituted the women+men separate because he saw sahabah looking at women in front of them when they'd go down into sajdah.

And about the drawing thing... Does that mean if you draw imaginary people and not portraits, it's okay?

Because it says that drawing things to the "likeliness of Allah's creations" is haraam.. basically, once again, prevention of trying to idolize people thorugh portraits or common animals like the cow. By expressing ideals or messages through art, I think, isn't too bad as far as I've been seeing things..
