Now that Halloween is over and Thanksgiving is coming up, it's almost time to think about the big Christmas holiday. (Which, sadly, STILL does not have an RD special, even though it should!). Although I can't remember Bedford Falls or It's A Wonderful Life being made a big deal of in any of the TV episodes, it was a very big deal in the RD books. Anyone who's read the books knows that it is Lister's ultimate fantasy to live in Bedford Falls as the main character, with Kochansky as Mary, and the twins as the children, where it would always be Christmas time. (If you haven't read the books, you should- what happens to Rimmer and brings him to Bedford Falls to destroy the town is one scene which should have been put into the series- or the non-existent Christmas episode/special.)
So, since there's such a strong Lister/RD connection with It's A Wonderful Life, tell me: Have you seen it? Will you watch it now that you know the RD connection? Can you see Lister in the Jimmy Stewart role?
I've seen it more than a few times, but I make a point of watching it at Christmas now that it's connected in my mind to Lister. I even have a little It's A Wonderful Life silver bell ornament on my tree because of the connection. (Since I DON'T have an RD Christmas special to watch- I think I might have mentioned that already, haven't I? biggrin )

I've seen it a few times, and I'll probably see bits and pieces of it again, but I don't like it enough to actually sit down and watch it all the way through. Sorry Lister, not even for you, you great goit.

There are times my real life make me wish I could live in Bedford Falls instead of here. Boring isn;t always bad....

Well, I have to admit, when I first say it, my first thought was how boring it (the movie AND the town) was. My dad had to force my sister and I to sit down and watch it. By the end of the movie, I was into the plot. Didn't watch it again 'til my dad got sick- i guess because he liked it so much. Then he died a few years back. crying and I wanted to see it again.
So between my dad and RD, I have two reasons to watch it that actually have nothing to do with the movie itself. Although I do like it now.

But we have to at least read the RD version of It'[s A Wonderful Life. It's the closest thing we have to an RD Christmas special. (Ah, yes, my favorite obsession again! biggrin )

The biggest problem with It's A Wonderful Life is that there are so many cheesy remakes on the theme. That movie, and The Christmas Carol, have both had so MANY worthless remakes in various modes that its sickening. I won't watch the "fake" Wonderful Life movies.

I've wanted to see if for a while, and when I saw it's going to be on in our local cinema on Tuesday, I asked my mum if we could go and see it and explained all about the RD link. It is mentioned in one of the episodes as well, I think it's Confidnece and Paranoia...Lister gets all emotional about it, funny!
