  Gimme, gimme, gimme!
Well, I'll give it a go for a few months...
Hmmm, what about the medical dangers?
No, no... I'll stick to my barrier methods thank you.

It's called Anya ((how cute is that?)) and is taken 365 days a year, no breaks, no menstruation.

Now all I need is for them to put it into implant form and I will be a happy little sex bunny.

But, what do you think? Could you cope with having no periods to tell you whether or not you're pregnant (or, your girl friends having no periods)? Do you think it's unnatural to suppress the cycle in such a manufactured way (i.e. not by pregnancy or hitting middle age)? Or is this a brilliant new thing that will once again revolutionise the way women view thier bodies and sex as the original Pill did decades ago?

0_o Is it healthy to suppress your period for that long?

It sounds interesting but I like to have my periods. They are shorter since I've been on birth control and less painful. I like them to tell me I'm not preggers. xD When I have my period I am usually very happy to have it.

I think I can agree with that.
I'm happy to have my periods for the same reason. I think my anxiety would take over if I didn't have that indicator to tell. (I'd be spending too much money on pregnancy tests monthly.)

Personally, I don't think it's healthy to suppress periods that long, but... I can't back up that idea with any data...
(If anyone else can show some data on the matter, then that'd be great)

Well this is what the website said about their drug and the long term affects:

No More Periods?
It should be noted that no clinical studies have been performed studying the long-term effects of Anya. Additionally, some of the studies performed on the pill were undertaken by the manufacturer, presenting the possiblity of biased results. It is not known how Anya may affect fertility or reproductive health when taken for a number of years. One concern for women is that suppression of menstruation for such a long period may result in an irreversible loss of bone density, a documented side-effect of depo-provera – another hormonal contraceptive that suppresses menstruation for months at a time.

as long as they vacummed out the linning still currently in the uterus once you start the pill (the one that would be staying in for quite some time) then I might feel a bit more safe, since it's not sitting in there for so long when it normally would either be put to use or expelled from the body.

I don't know how your body would react being put under all of the hormones for a long period of time though. it would need further studies.
to me, it seems that you would have to ween yourself off of it for quite some time instead of just not taking the pill all together at once, when you do want to stop the pill, due to the fact that that would be quite the significant hormonal change and could probably cause some type of internal damage if not severe depression etc.

personally I wouldn't mind having no periods the whole year.
but I'm not going to risk myself on the first expiremental drug they come out with.
I can wait the decade before they refine it down to an art.
in the mean time, pills like Seasonal, with only 4 periods a year sound dandy enough. 3nodding

Probably has an assload of side effects.

But I like the idea.

I personally would NEVER take it ((although I'm finding it very hard to type it out due to cramping)) because I'm squeemish at the thought of something like that working inside my body, foreign chemicals, etc.

But as long as it's safe, I'll go a go-h0 for it! I mean, I want it availible to women if they want it.

Some other articles I've read in newspapers (that was how I heard about this first) said that they think that it is actually more unnatural to have so many periods in one lifetime as we have now. The female of the species, during our early millenia would not have had so many when they were having more children and breast feeding for longer... well that's what they say anyway...

As a Buffy fan, the name amuses me greatly.

Personally, I'm all for it, so long as it's safe. I can see how if you're sexually active it'd be a tad worrying, but there are a lot of instances it'd be great. For instance, if you had severe cramps during your period. Or if you were taking extra precautions incase your husband's vascetomy reversed, and you didn't want/couldn't get a tubal.

I wouldn't take it, mostly because since I don't have to worry about getting pregnant as I don't have sex with men; but also because I take as little medicine as possible. I like not interfering with my body, unless, of course, it's needed for my health.

But that's just personally. If it's proven to be safe and a woman wants to take it, then obviously she should be allowed. I do have to wonder about the safety of something that stops periods completely, though.

That doesn't mean it's unnatural, though. They didn't have as many because, as you said, they were having children much more often. If they didn't, chances are they'd have more periods. Also, the nutrition back then wasn't near as good, so that's another factor.

I wouldn't personally take it. If I skip my period too often I get break-through bleeding and that's really annoying. Also, despite all my bitching when I get my period while on the pill, I prefer it that way, otherwise it's really heavy when I finally have one, it justs feels a bit more natural to have one.

I would expect break-through bleeding with a year long pill. It happens with the normal pill and I've heard from a few people that you can get break-through bleeding with the implant one. All that lining has to go somewhere eventually.

That's what I was thinking. It must just build up all through the year. It would have to come out sooner or later...How gross. I bet it comes out all clotted and stuff. gonk

Yeah, if you didn't get break-through while the pill was active or whatever, you'd have one heavy period once you stopped taking it.

It just doesn't seem overly safe, just from the point of view of having all the lining.

My gyno strongly discouraged me against taking anything that would surpress my period. But being periodless would be awesome although I'd be worried about the side-effects of long term hormonal birth control.

Oh and Trite you don't start taking the pill till the day after you stop bleeding so that no uterine lining is present and the pill surpresses the formation of a new lining. So I was told. ninja Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thats why I wouldn't take it. The thought of that crap building up inside me freaks me out. There's another pill that lets you only have a few periods a year, so at least you're flushing everything out, instead of letting it build up.

Personally I just wish I never started my period in the first place.
