Well, I'm Goth but I don't wear heavy make-up, to much chains and I hardly ever curse.

But you see, I'm a Christian too. And I've had friends that say Christians can't become Goth. I mean when people hear 'Goth' they think of killing, murder, blood, Satan and other things.

In my own eyes, being Goth doesn't mean I have to fallow others. I can be who ever I want, I don't need to wear chains or make-up and talk about Satan. But what should I really do? I'm so confused.

I turned Goth when I was 11, my family were having some issues and it affected me more than they knew. I got saved when I was 12 at Camp. But I still look at things in a sort of dark matter, I don't talk about murdering ppl, I talk about rock bands, blood and vampires.

Is the things I like reflect and make me who I am from the inside and outside?

Yes, goths can become Christians--anyone can! You just have to tell Jesus that you believe that he died for your sins and that you are willing to give your life over to him. I'm telling you now, though--once you become a Christian, you will not want to be as gothic anymore--Jesus will be nudging you in that area of your life.

Hmm.. I'm wondering how old you are right now...

Are you sure that you are using the term 'Goth' correctly?

The Random House dictionary defines Goth as: a person with no refinement; barbaric.

If you only talk about "rock bands, blood and vampires", maybe you are just into the fashion and style of others who call themselves "goth"... or perhaps you are just misusing the term?

When I was little, I used to think I was Buddhist, and ( I was raised in a Christian family... sort of ) I prayed to God saying that I was sorry, but I felt that the religion was better fitting than Christianity but honestly, I didn't know what Buddhism really was.

Heck, even in my own eyes, being Christian doesn't mean I have to follow others- I always wear black, I have green hair, I dress like I'm colorblind and don't have a sense of style ( I have great sense of style... but I don't like showing it ). I listen to metal, country... Sometimes I even talk about other... unmentionable things.

I'm still Christian, and I'm devoting myself to God more and more. Heck, I'm a RaDiCaL Christian- I don't mean by extremist... but I'm CRAZY about God.

Have fun with that.

I don't agree, just look at Lazeraus the Resurrected (a mamber of this guild.) and me. I actually became goth after i became a Christian. Now you're prbobly wondering why, well I was praying one night and God showed me that I need to be a witness to those who the normal christian would avoid because there is 'no hope.' I decided to become goth to show them that once yoy become a christian you dn't have to be a Bible thumping polo-shirt wearing christian.

I don't quite believe that. I know Goths who're Christians and they have feelings. No offense but what you said sounds a little Sterotype.

I agree, that's actually an emo (no offense to any out thare that might read this.) Goths were once a Germanic tribe.

Adding to Zany:

Some people might think that "Goth" is a religion or that it is a fashion thing. Maybe it is for some, maybe it isn't for others. Origionally, they were a "one of a Teutonic people who in the 3rd to 5th centuries invaded and settled in parts of the Roman Empire." (Dictionary.com)

Otherwise, you'd be thinking of "a person of no refinement; barbarian." (dictionary.com)

But even so, because you live in a SOCIETY (ooh, big word...) you have at least SOME refinement within you. You know your mores, and your personal beliefs that distingushes "right" and "wrong" within you.

Artix- Umm... you got it wrong... go look the word up in a dictionary. >>
Zany- You're also steriotyping. >> Euhm, Emo's have feelings. They just have too many emotions. (Emo short for Emotional, btw. )

Of coarse! I'm a beatnik and a Christian! Beatniks think simmilarly to goths so I understand completly (we just choose to dress in a different manner). Some of you are confusing goths with other popular stereo types. Click here to Learn more about Goths
What really annoys me is that most people think of death, bloodshed and vampirism when they hear the term goth. In actuallity they are peaceniks and very rarely will invoke violence. They may occasionally comtemplate suicide, however 99.9% of the time contemplating is all they will ever do. Many people think that gothic culture requires some type of vampirism, however while most vampires are goths, most goths in fact loathe the fact that they are even so much as asociated with them.
I hope that cleared up some questions!

To the first post: You said, you bacome goth at the age of 11. One does not simply wake one morning and say, HEY WORLD! I'M A GOTH NOW! No, goth is a state of mind. Being attrcted to dark, NOT evil, things. And goths have absolutly NOTHING to do with satan, goth is not a religon or a label, it is a state of mind. In fact us Chrisyian Goths probably see the prblems of the world more than any one else. Hope that helped.

The truth is that it doesn't matter what you wear, as long as you are living for Christ. that is what God looks for. I love Gothic/Metal apparell yet I'm the most hardcore Christian you would probably find... other than my friend Leslie... and a few other in my church... our church has over 2000 people in it, XP. nah, most of my Chuch is awsome. I love my church. God is the center point of my life, who cares what i wear? yes, tattoos and piercings are wrong, but casual clothing? no way. as it says in the bible, man looks at a persons outward appearance, yet God looks at a mans heart. I love gothic/metal apparell a greatly, it hasn't overshadowed God, I love God more everyday, yet i do not love these other things less, there is no shame in that; as long as i am loving God MORE. each day i grow a more closer and intimate relationship with God. Believe me, there is no shame in enjoying fashion. fashion is of the outside, not the inside, and it's what people DO that shows how Christian they are.

Your brother in Christ,
Matthew
