This is where the story will begin, then we can branch out to the different classrooms once we get more people.

Lisha followed the rest of the first years into the great hall after being spoken to by a Professor. Her eyes were wide as she tried to take everything in at once, bouncing on the balls of her feet. Her jaw dropped as she saw the enchanted ceiling for the first time. Anticipation and nervousness filled her tiny body when she saw the sorting hat and all the people at the different houses staring at them, the new first years.
"Blake, Aaron" Was the first name called to take the enchanted Wizards hat and place it on his head to say what house he was in...

Karen watched the first years enter the great hall. She found the whole ritual quite boring. She really wanted to eat and then go to bed as fast as possible. The other Gryffindors around her errupted in applause every time a first year was errected into their house.
Karen remembered when she herself was a first year. She was a happy, bubbly little thing who probably annoyed everyone around her.
Professor McGonnagle called out a girl named Lisha. Karen's younger sister's name... or it had been. Karen's attention was turned toward the timmid, yet excited little girl.

Lisha walked over to the sorting hat. Her walk was more like a half skip, since she was having such a hard time not running over. She sat on the stool, and the hat covered her whole head, and rested easily on her shoulders. She closed her eyes, wondering what on earth would happen next...

Karen watched, highly impatient. Finally she was interested in something and it had to be so long. For some reason she really hoped Lisha would end up in her house.
Karen's parents had been killed a long time ago. Karen was only four when it happened. She never found out how they were killed, and she never found out what happened to her younger sister, who was also named Lisha. Karen knew that this girl couldn't be her sister, but already she felt a connection to her.

To Lisha's surprise she heard a small voice in her ear. It seemed to take it's time, talking about the different houses she would be good in, but finally it shouted "GRYFFINDOR!"
Lisha jumpped at the loud voice and turned her head this way and that with the hat still on. Finally McGonagall helped her take the hat off her head, and Lisha bubbled off to the red and gold table that was cheering the loudest. She had a huge grin on her face, and her turquoise eyes were bright as she looked around the table. She saw an empty chair next to a girl with dark brown hair and decided to occupy it.

Karen didn't applaude with the rest. She wasn't that type of person. Instead, a strange feeling irrupted inside of her. Karen knew what it was.
The little girl ran toward her. Automatically, Karen slid over for her to sit down.

Lisha grinned at the other girl and plopped down on her seat. Even though she was seated, she was not still. She looked every where seemingly at once. She turned to the girl she was sitting next to, "I'm Lisha, what's your name?" she asked curiously, half paying attention to the last person that was being sorted.

"I'm Karen," she said slowly. "You must be Lisha." Karen couldn't think of anything to say.
Finally the sorting ended and the feast appeared. Karen watched Lisha's astounded face as the food appeared. She laughed a little as she dished some roast beef onto her plate.

Lisha's eyes nearly popped out of their sockets, "Where did that come from, Karen?" she asked poking at the pot roast that was right next to her.

"It came from the kitchen. It's right below the great hall. There are little creatures called 'house elves' that cook all of the food and then send it up to the tables by magic," Karen replied through a mouthfull of mashed potatoes. "Now eat. You're so thin, you won't last very long."
Karen laughed inside. Already she was acting like an older sister... or what she thought would be how an older sister would act like.
((if that made sense))

(Yup, it did)
Lisha's eyes were wide as she listened to what Karen said about the house elves, "What do house elves look like? Why do they cook for us? How did the food get here if the kitchen is below us?" she asked in rapid succession as she attempted to dish herself out some food without looking.

"Do you feel like eating the table decorations or do you want actual food?" Karen said as Lisha started piling fake leaves on her plate. "Like I said, it was magic."

Momentarily distracted by the fact that she had placed one of the small decorations on her plate, Lisha kept silent for a minute while she dished up some real food. "But what to they look like? Do they like cooking?" she looked like she was going to ask another question before Karen could answer...

Karen placed her hand over Lisha's mouth. "Ok listen, if you let me eat my food without asking me any questions for the time being, I'll tell you everything when we get to the common room tonight. Does that sound fair?"
