Maverick stood in the plains, grazing on the grass on as the sun shone down upon him. The weather today was unusually perfect. It was not hot, yet it wasn't cold, but it was just right. The grass looked greener than ever and there wasn't a cloud in the sky. What was so perfect about this day?
Maverick looked around him and began spacing off to the point where he didn't know anything going on around him. Maverick was like this a lot, especially when he is alone, which is how he prefers to spend most of his time. Maverick a bit anti-social, or at least untrusting. Perhaps the best word to describe him is reserved. He isn't shy all the time, but just shy around those who he doesn't feel comfortable with. He only feels comfortable with Soquili that are similar to him, who are natural and do not have coats of a bizzare color such as blue, pink or green. It's one of Maverick's flaws in his social life, but he doesn't really care to change it. Although, at the same time, he wished there were more Soquili that he could feel comfortable with.

The sound of hooves was soft on the lovely day, grass parting around the form of another Soquili. Deliacate stripes decorated fur of a deep bay, the mare they belonged to moving almost timidly into the clearing. Her short mane rustled on her neck, standing up rather strangely for a horse, and dark brown eyes swept the area.

Its okay, really... Blue isn't that far away, and I can get back to her fast if need be... She tried to reassure herself, the grass tempting enough to get the shy mare away from her girl's side. They'd been traveling for quite some time to get to the Kawanii village, only now being released to forage and rest.

The soft, liquid eyes finally caught the figure of another acrossed the small sea of grass and she froze, poised on three legs with a forehoof lifted. Oh, my... What should I do now?

Across the green clearing of grass, Maverick spotted another Soquili not too far away, who seemed to be standing completely still. Maverick squinted to focus his vision on the Soquili, but he was too distant. The Soquili appeared however, to have the figure of mare. Maverick took a few steps closer, trying to see more of this mare. The closer he got, the more suprised Maverick was.
She had a beautiful amber coat, a color unlike he had ever seen before. It shone in the sunlight, illuminating the spectacular stripes on her coat. Wait, did Maverick see stripes? Yes, indeed, this mare had stripes similar to his own, yet much more distinct.
Perhaps she was a zorse as well! Oh, the idea of this delighted Maverick beyond anything he could imagine. Another zorse is in the Soquili lands! Finally, someone else Maverick could truly relate to!
Maverick galloped over to the mare, full of excitement.
"Hello there!" said Maverick proudly. Maverick noticed it was quite out of his nature to introduce himself so boldly and proud, but he didn't truly care. "My name is Maverick. I couldn't help but noticing your stripes, they remind me of my father's stripes. Are you by any chance a descendant of a zebra?"
Maverick felt akward asking such a question at an introduction, but he wasn't used to communicating with others, so didn't have many social skills.

The stallions swift approach spooked the shy mare and she nearly bolted right there. She barely managed to hold her ground, stumbling backwards a few steps as she dropped her head and laid her ears back along her skull. He was... big, and rather intimidating. His words though, helped to calm her trepidation somewhat.

"Hello, Maverick... My name is Orah, and yes, my father was a zebra too." Her head rose a little as the tilt of her ears eased. "Its, um... nice to meet you." She shifted a little on her hooves, feeling the tall grass brushing along her cannons. He seemed friendly enough... and she really did need to get more comfortable around other Soquili. She and Blue were going to be here for a while... or at least till the spirit's gifted Blue with another dream vision. Making some friends here would make it easier, and Blue liked company.

Maverick sensed some discomfort from Orah, similar to his usual discomfort around other Soquili. Perhaps he had come on a little too strong when introducing himself. Or perhaps Orah is just as shy as Maverick is.
"It is very nice to meet you," said Maverick, feeling like stating this was an understatement. "In fact, I have been waiting a long time to meet another zorse in these parts. I've been so lonely. I tend to be very shy around most Soquili, but I feel pretty comfortable with you, most likely because we have something in common."
Maverick tilted his head, thinking.
"Why have I not seen you before? Are you new to these parts?" asked Maverick curiously.

Well... at least he'd backed off a little, giving the mare the space she needed to regain her equilibrium. Given time, she'd be sure to get used to his prescence. "Um... I'm new, just arrived actually. My girl and I were traveling, and came to the village. I'm... sorry you've been lonely. Aren't there others around here?"

Her words were soft spoken and light, her ease with him growing by the moment as he made no threatening motions. This wasn't so bad... maybe it would be easier to meet new people than she'd thought it would be. Her dark eyes finally took a moment to glance down his form, taking in the typical horse coloring and zebra markings that were a trademark of the Zorse. Idly, she wondered at what had brought his parents together... It was probably a bit different from her own parent's story.

"Well, there are other Soquili in the area, but I don't usually associate myself with them," said Maverick. "So, you are new then, huh? Do you want to take a tour around the lands? I know a place where you can find some of the best apples in the world."

Maverick thought about the time his mother showed him this place of fresh and delicious apples when he was just a young foal. It was a very happy day, for his father was there too. In fact, it was the last day he had ever seen his father, which is what makes the day even more memorable.

Orah's blunt head dropped as her ears perked forward, a soft whiffle slipping from her. "Oh, that sounds lovely! It would be nice to know my way around, you know, in case I need to go somewhere specific." The mention of apples called up an image in the striped mare's head, recalling to her the sweet taste and crunch of the fruit's flesh. Her mouth nearly watered at the thought of how pleasing it would be to sink her teeth into a nice, ripe apple... Traveling so much, apples were few and far between. Blue would love them too, so plans were set in the back of her mind to bring her girl there sometime. Then they could store away some apples for later!

Such good luck for the little zorse mare.

"Come, follow me," said Maverick as he span around playfully before leading the way to the apples. The apples aren't too far from where they are, in fact, they were actually quite close. There was a stream nearby this place where the water is always cold and the apples are the most beautiful shade of red.
"So, I take it that you have been to the Kawani village?" asked Maverick. Maverick has been to the village several times, but does not really like it there. He is rather distrusting of two-leggers after seeing what they have done to other living creatures. "The village is very lovely, although I don't go there often."

Orah grinned as she trotted along next to the stallion. Her short, bristly mane bounced against her arched neck as she moved, the braids in her tail brushing her hocks. "Nope, not yet. I just got here, remember? This was the first place I explored after dropping Blue off in that clearing back there. She's going to set up our teepee, before it gets dark."

Her hooves clopped in the dirt as she moved easily, her motions speaking of a long time spent traveling long distances at a time. There was a little wearyness in her too... traveling was hard, and she was tired. But not too tired to find some nice, juicy apples. Oh, that would make those last, grueling miles just melt away, she was sure of it.

Maverick continued walking towards the location of the reddest and juiciest apples. Hopefully Orah would enjoy the apples, or at least enjoy Maverick's company.
"Ah, I suggest going to the village at one point," stated Maverick. "It's a very nice village, although I am often untrusting of two-leggers, so I do not venture off there myself too frequently. However, there are some two-leggers there that are trustworthy enough to make the visit."
Maverick gave a slight nod as he said this.
PostPosted: Thu Nov 09, 2006 1:33 pm

The zorse mare smiled as she tossed her head, setting the feathers behind her ears to fluttering against her striped neck. "Oh, I'm sure I'll get a change fairly soon. Blue will want to meet the other two-leggers, even if just for a short time. Are there only humans there? I can see how that might upset some creatures, but I grew up around huge crowds of them. They don't scare me any."

Her pointed ears perked forward as she moved beside Maverick, Orah was about as happy right now as ever. Apples, apples, apples! Her mind (and stomach) sang to her. And a nice new friend too. She truly was lucky, to find some one nice here so soon. She'd barely arrived, even!

"Hey, Maverick..." She had walked on for a space in silence, but a thought had brought out her soft voice again. "Do you live with a two-legger? You say you don't often trust them, but I just wondered if you had one of your own."

"No, I don't have a two-legger," said Maverick. "There are some two-leggers that I do trust, but not very many. Two-leggers are, well, I suppose intimidating to me. Although, there are a lot of Soquili that are just as intimidating as two-leggers are."
Maverick drooped down his head, as if upset, but then rose his head up again, trying not to get emotional or lost in thought.
"The apples are right over there," said Maverick, nodding his head over to a tree near a stream, not too far away. "I'll race you there."
Maverick laughed and then dashed off towards the apple tree. Maverick wasn't the fastest runner, but he didn't view the game as an attempt to win, as much as just for fun.

No two-legger companion? Now, that was rather sad...

The little zorse burst out laughing as Maverick challenged her to a race, her black-stocking legs bursting into motion to carry her forward. Her head held high as her tail flagged behind her, the mare raced over the grass, her hooves pounding it in a rapid rythmn. She did so love to run, even if the exhaustion of travel pulled at her, making her body want to slow when all she wanted was to go faster.

The tree was a welcome sight, her body slowing gratefully as she started to watch for the apples littering the ground. Wouldn't want to step on one and accidentally trip... that wouldn't be pleasant one bit. Hard, fast breathes made her barrel heave, but she grinned as she trotted around the tree.

Maverick smiled as he watched Orah. Maverick slowed himself down, allowing Orah to win the race, but then sped up towards the end as he watched her run. Maverick almost ran straight into the tree, but managed to stop himself and skidded a bit on the ground, stumbling like a fool.
Maverick laughed a nervous and embarrassed laugh as he took gently kicked at the tree with his back hoof, causing the tree to shake apples out. A few apples fell to the ground beside Maverick.
"The freshest, reddest and tastiest apples in the land," said Maverick temptingly offering the fruit to Orah, as if he were advertising for the apples. Maverick reached down and grabbed at one of the apples with his teeth and began to feast on the delicious fruit.
"Enjoy," he said as he was chewing, in a disgusting, yet silly manner.
