That is true, and it is a good thing, because if we get asked again we can tell the person....

I thought it was just for fan-created same-sex pairings (though I will occasionlay use the term 'hetslash' for MxF pairings that aren't happening in the cannon)

Slash is, as Wensday said, the term for m/m pairings for movies, tv shows, books, etc. It is called 'slash' due to the / mark used between the names of the pairing.

RoyxHughes from Full Metal Alchemist would be yaoi.

Kirk/Spock from Star Trek would be slash.

For a more comprehensive answer, you may want to run over to Wikipedia which has a better and longer definition, as well as some history.

Also F/F pairings cause we as of yet don't have a term for that like the Japanese do. ^^

Nah, it's already been created Femslash is the long hand term, but Slash covers it too if you're too lazy (Like I am sometimes) to put the Fem in front of Slash. ^^

If you're saying that what Slash means, then I'm sorry but you're not entirely correct. Slash is normally used for just Fantasy/made up characters in movies, T.V shows books etc. If it was with Real men or women, then the term most commonly used is RPS AKA Real Person Slash. Both terms do use Slash, but they are different this because with RPS you're actually playing around with Real People, where as with Slash, they're not real. ^^ Hope that helps.
