what would you change about RENT if you could? (I got this from the imdb board. It caused a lot of controversy, mainly "HOW COULD YOU CHANGE ANYTHING ABOUT RENT???!!", especially since people wanted to change MAJOR things...like taking AIDS out of the musical. XD)
I'd change some of the lyrics, particularly "think twice before you poo-poo it." It's enternally mocked.

The ending. I mean, okay, maybe he should have just killed Mimi. That's not what really bothers me. "I was heading for this warm, white light."? What's that all about?

Yeah, the ending really bothers me. I just find it sort of ridiculous and I can't really take it seriously. Who wakes up from a near death experience and moo's?

Oh definitely, I understand what Larson meant about having Rent end on a lighter note, and it's great that Mimi lives, I just see the whole part as sort of... exaggerated or something of the like.

mizermanakins What would I change?.... *cough*marknrogerlove*cough*Nothing! Nothing at all! There is plenty of Mark Roger love (most of it is between the lines)... but not enough! I see your point. In the NYTW, they actually say "I love you" to each other. Also, I think I'd make the movie straight singing. No dialogue--it seems awkward if one minute, everyone's talking, and the next, they're singing.

The only things I would change are in the movie.
How at the end of the title song, It goes "'cause everything is reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeent" and then they just start shouting randomly. That transition is a little odd
You Okay Honey needs to be sung
How they pan to Mimi's hand when she's about to wake up. It's a dead givaway.

Yes, after I heard the OBCR, and then watched the movie I was like, "Why is she just asking him if he's okay?! She should sing it!" I had a major spaz over that.

yes I think that showing Mimi's hand twitch was a dead give-away. I would have removed that and kept in the drama of if she would live or not.

Ritz_Freak I would change that There would be more collins in the story. Joanne as well. You don't know anything about Joanne's past or anything.

"Who do you think you are, leaving me alone with my guitar?" Mimi's dying and that's the first thinks Roger to say? I liked the NYTW Finale better.

I definitely preferred the alternate ending (where Angel comes back!) to the one actually used in the movie. I also agree with what everyone says about Mimi. Hey, it could've been interesting to see what would've happened if she had've died. Don't get me wrong though - she's one of my favorite characters. Lastly, there were a lot of songs from the actual musical that should have been in there - like Halloween, Real Estate, and a few others.
