The days were chill now. Comfortably so in his opinion. Drac, she had finally convinced him to call her by her nickname, had come by a few times to bring food and drink, making sure he was comfortable and just letting him keep his solitude. Devmani had also stopped by to drop off some herbs for teas. The small cold had left him weak, but he was making a steady comeback.
Sonata lay around his feet as he sat outside, enjoying the warmth provided by a fading sun and the crisp breeze that rattled the trees. He could smell the changes everywhere. The rich scent of the world tucking itself in for a long slumber.

Back to the old tree, Levi took a breath. One hand dropped to the pouch at his belt, fingers loosening the strings. His other hand patted at his jacket, where it hung against his chest...the faint sound of crinkling paper echoing.
From the pouch, he pulled a piece of jerky...leaving the others there for now. Chewing at the end, he tugged the pouch shut and turned the make his way down the path.
It wasn't far, if he recalled....just around the bend, and....there! Levi waved over his head, voice friendly as he called out. "Eh! Y'friend o' Elle's? Gotta message for y'!"
Oh, he hoped this worked.

Lonan turned towards the sound, not bothering to get out of his chair.
"Who are you?" The question was soft, tinted with curiosity and expecting something.
Now that the wind was blowing his direction he could just barely scent the trace of Elle on the boy. But it was old and nearly faded.
"And what message could take so long to deliver?"

Levi shrugged, strolling closer. "Not sure, ain't fer me! Sides, don't read cursive."
He offered out the letter as he pulled closer, and smiled down at Sonata a bit nervously. Elle had told him Lonan had a companion, and he was sure she mentioned ear scritchies....but he'd been expecting a dog, not a wolf.
Holding the piece of jerky he'd been nibbling on to Sonata, Levi shrugged again. "Want some, fella? S'deer." Winning hearts and minds!
The letter he handed over to Lonan was indeed from Elle...which followed, since the young pirate had found it upon her desk! However, he had the sneaking suspicion that it was one of those letters that women never got around to sending, like the kind Aki was always writing to Aunt Wasa. The thick paper rustled, a dried rose petal settling to the grass. The old petal was so dark, it was almost black.
"Anywho, m' Levi! Elle's friend." Pupil, roommate, little brother, or charge would have been more apt, but Levi tended to avoid those terms since Elle was so pretty to look at. He'd rather not be related! There seemed to be no question about who Lonan was...apparently pale scarred skin and large ebony wings left little room for mistaken identity.

"And Elle would not write to me. At least not in a form that I couldn't read. What do you really want here?"
He knew had far more courtesy than that. If nothing else she would have written in a way that he or the messenger could read from thick ink. Or given it to him herself.
Sonata raised her head a bit and sniffed the offered treat. Carefully she took the piece in her teeth and put it between her paws to nibble. Ok, the boy could be tollerated for a time.
"And Sonata is a female." There was a touch of humor in his voice that didn't spread to the rest of his face. He may know Elle, but he didn't know Lonan, yet.

"Well..." A bit of a wistful note had fallen into Levi's voice. "Is fer you, know that much...see, says Lawnen right there!...but I'm passin' through, so thought I'd give it to ya on m'way!" One hand behind his head, fingers scratching at his dreads, Levi cocked his head like a thought had occurred to him.
"Y'wouldn't happen to have a barn with a spot o' hay I could curl up in, do ye? Getting later then I'd been thinkin."
He kept one eye on Sonata, hand unlacing the strings again on the jerky pouch. "Got a bit I could toss in th' pot fer dinner, if y'd like!"

Lonan took the note and put in one of his pockets for later. If Elle had written it then he'd oblidge by trying to read it after Levi left.
"So you're couch-hopping and looking for a place to bed down. Does Elle know that you're doing this?"
The teen stood, stretching his wings and folding them against his back, making a motion for the boy to follow. He could put the boy up for the night and feed him. It wasn't any hardship. Besides, Drac had filled the cupboards earlier.
Sonata snatched another bit of jerky before trotting after her charge.
"There's a shower out that doorway and you can borrow a set of my cotton pants for the night. Your clothes can be dried by morning. Wash up and I'll get something together." His hands moved over surfaces, finding what was needed. A cold meal that night, but sandwiches were simple and filling.

Levi gawked, wondering why Elle had never mentioned that Lonan was psychic. His smile finally returned after a few moments of consideration. "Ah don't report t'Elle. They know I be with friends!" Just not which friends. Last Aki heard, he was with Mik under Raife's care.
Listening to the bit about pants and a shower, the young pirate practically lit up. "Aw, great! Tanks!" Already stripping down as he wandered that direction, Levi dropped his belt and pouches in a pile with his jacket and pants near the door.
His shirt and underclothes he shed nearer to the shower, and Levi started the water with a happy sigh. It was cold at the moment, but soon he'd be in the warm water! Today wasn't looking too bad...perhaps this Lonan guy was ok!

The teen sighed, hands putting together a small plate of coldcuts and pulling a loaf of bread from the cupboard. A moment later he dug out a jar from the miniature fridge. Drac had mentioned that she liked pickles with sandwiches, maybe Levi was the same.
By the time the water had turned hot in the outdoor shower Lonan had teh kettle on to boil and the plates set out on the counter. Going to the closet that held his clothes he placed out a pair of his cotton pants and pulled out two folding stools.
Elle had to be worried about Levi. Maybe there was something he could do.

By the time he was out of the shower, Levi was pretty much glowing. It had been a few days since his last one. His black eye makeup had mostly washed away, leaving him with a younger face.
Struggling into the pants, which were a bit long, Levi made his way back into the kitchen.
"S'much bettah!" He nodded his head in thanks. Settling down on one of the stools, he grinned up at Lonan. "Sumptin I can help with?"

The teen shook his head, motioning for himt o help himself. "It's either water or tea to drink. Mugs and glasses are in the cabinet over the sink, teabags in the canister next to the stove top. Help yourself."
He sat sipping his own tea, dark and strong, and managing to relax him a bit from the inside out. Giving a mental sigh he tried to figure out how to broach the topic.
"Levi, do you repsect Elle at all? Care for her? Or Aki?"

Hmming in response, Levi poured himself some tea...grabbing a plate with a sandwich. He'd already crammed a bite into his mouth before realizing what Lonan had asked.
"Buh?" Taking a moment to chew, Levi swallowed politely before responding further. "Sure, love em both!" Raising the sandwich for another bite, he paused long enough for a question in return.
"An ye? Whatta bout Elle?"

"Would you ever willingly, knowingly hurt either of them?"
He took a bite of his own sandwich. Hearing a scuff along the floor he figured Sonata was pushing the wayward clothes into a pile to be washed later.
"I would give my life for her if need be. That's the honest truth."

Taking the rest of the sandwich in three big bites, Levi stared at Lonan as he chewed, cheeks puffed out with food. His eyes....were all white?
"Oy! Y'got Vidya's eyes!" His voice was a breath of pure admiration. Whoever this Vidya was, apparently Levi thought highly of her as well. "Her wings 'r' white, tho. Related?"
He glanced at Sonata for a moment as the wolf padded towards his clothes, figuring she was after more jerky. He'd left the pouch open, that was okay! Pulling his mind back to the question, he met Lonan's pale gaze again.
"Whas this 'bout life givin? Zat like love? Anyway, girls get hurt 'bout funneh things. Never mean t'hurt em." He picked a large crumb from the plate, munching on it in contemplation.

The teen sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. The boy was being obtuse.
"Do you know anything about Elle's past? What she remembers of before she met your family?"
