It may be very simple to answer, but it's also something to think about. Why do we look down when we're sad, and why do we look up when we're happy? Some could say that hell is below, and it attracts you at the moment. Or you look up towards heaven in joy because again it attracts you. Though, those of you who don't care/think about a heaven or hell, why do we look in certain directions based on our moods? Why would we ever look sideways? Why?

Ironic that I happened to see this.
I think it's because you don't want to look at other's faces. Or perhaps some want people to notice they're down.

SteelyIII Ironic that I happened to see this. I think it's because you don't want to look at other's faces. Or perhaps some want people to notice they're down. Yes, that is one obvious explanation, but I'm requesting others to give me a deeper, thicker, more subtle response.

So, you want something ambiguous. Why don't you use the internet ? No one here posts anymore...

*feels the conversation went far from the authors intent*
I believe, being someone who draws for a living, feel that it is the way it is. You can look happy, and the muscels seem to pull your face upward. Uplifting, Happy. Why it does that has to do with the muscel structure.
Sad, or down, is the same thing. The complete lack of pulling and more of pushing the muscels down.
Side to side I think comes from our history on earth, back to the hunter gatherer days when we humans had to sneak around.
I'm sorry if this isn't more in depth... short amount of time I have.
