I was at a State stake conference today, June 5, 2005. The third conference of its kind in the world. Elder Holland was the main speaker. There were some amazing thoughts and storyies that were shared. One of the speakers, Elder Tingy, said that in 1844, Joseph Smith sent two men to the Republic of Texas to speak to Sam Houston about purchasing some land in the Mcallen valley. Shortly Joseph Smith was marderd and the and deal ceased. So Brigham Young took the saints to Utah. Later the US was going to send an army to extreminate the mormons, but a certain senater protested. Sam Houston said that he had dealings with the Mormons and he said that they are a goodly people. The congress listened, the extermibation order was droped but the assutaining order was carried out. Texas plays a big role in our history, it stayed the armys hand, from our distruction. Elder Holland said, "When you hear the great state of... Texas atomatically follows. You never hear, the great state of rhode island." "Texas is a State of mind, a State of obsession, a nation in every since of the word." Texas is a great state, and justa letcha know im proud to be a part of it.

Even now we are the greatest resource the the national armed services... A LOT of people in the military come from Texas... Probably 'cuz so many of us have at least one shotgun in the house and even every child knows how to use it, lol... (j/k...)

But yeah.... I love most of the Texas Mormons. biggrin

Rexburg, BYU-I. And it probably wasn't announced in any other state... State Conferences don't happen very often, so... Yeah.

Texas is the best place on Earth. I lived most of my life there. Now I live in Ohio. I miss the open air markets down at the Fort Worth stockyards. I miss the smell of mesquite trees. I miss the cactus and how the land went on forver, the line of sight unobscured by hills or any large ediface. I miss the rodeo and the music of Houston and Austin. I miss the semlls of spicy food. Me and my seed will inhabit the lands from the Rio Grande all the way throught the Rocky Mountains to the Salt Lake. The Midwest is the land of the faithfull and there shall I go.

I went to the first state conference, in illinois, it was pretty cool, not bad not bad. But IMHO Texas sucks, everyone I've met from there has been very arrogant. They compare everything to "the way it is in texas", and they were very caught up in themselves and how "great" they are. Thats why I cant stand New Yorkers, theyrs both alike, and they think they're the model for america. rolleyes stare
