Larkin was lounging about in one of the temple courtyards, half asleep with his head on his paws, stretched out on the sun-warmed stone. This was one of his favorite activities, as it turned out. He enjoyed running around in the desert and whenever there was a fire he was there in an instant, but when things were quiet and lazy he liked to just soak up the sun.

Strolling through the cooled temples, Chael carried a small hum as he enjoyed the coolness of the temple. True, it was still quite warm outside, yet it was cooling...which made the ice blue malu extremely happy. While stepping past one of the numerous courtyards, a small colourful thing caught the corner of his eye as his head turned to see whom it was. Tilting his head slightly, he didn't recognize the purplish Malu....and thus went to investigate.
"Hello there.."
Chael spoke as he stepped up to the youth, looking down as this one seemed to be quite lazy compared to the other youngsters he'd met. Taking a quick glance up at the sun, he wondered how this one could stand laying on the probably hot rock with the sun beating down on him like that.
"Aren't you hot?"
He blinked, shaking his pelt slightly as even he was starting to feel the heat after only a minute of being out here.

Bilby's smile hovered somewhat unnervingly on her muzzle as she picked her way through the area, long ears flicking a few flies off of her face.
Hers was a smile that didn't make its way to her eyes, which remained rather calculating. Spotting the two other malu, she ambled slowly over, dusty brown eyes settling on the larger of the two and then sliding to the smaller. Her smile curled wider.
"Some of us don't mind the heat so much," the female crooned softly, apparently not minding that she was interrupting. Finding a comfortable-looking patch of ground, she seated herself gracefully, placing both forepaws in front of herself in an almost regal fashion.

He blinked sleepily hearing the voice and spoke before he'd opened his eyes. "Hot, yeah, 's hot."
He sat up, stretching. The sun was bright after having his eyes closed and he had to squint a little as he looked up, since the blue Malu was much taller than him. That didn't deter him at all. "You don't like heat, mister?" he asked with an impish smile.
When the other Malu said 'some of us don't mind the heat so much' he nodded in agreement. "Like me. I don't mind heat at all." A hint of pride came into his grin.

"No...I can't say I do. I'm more arctic inclined.."
Chael smiled a bit sheepishly, it was always weird saying such things down here where it nearly never snowed. Not many Malu even knew what snow was...which was a shame. Blinking, his eyes wandered as another Malu took a seat down beside them, she was his age, with a striped pattern he had never seen before on a pelt. It was intruiging none the less.
"Thats quite true...Miss. I suppose I'm just an oddity around here then." A small chuckle arose on his breath, as he too took a seat.

"Arctic, hmm?" Bilby murmured, casting her unnerving gaze to the large Malu with an interested glance. She gave a tinkling laugh, leaning down to the smaller one and giving him an appraising look. "Heat is life," she observed, straightening back up and glancing breifly up at the sun.
The striped malu turned back to Chael and smiled her odd, curving smile. "Being odd is nothing to be ashamed of. Perhaps, if you prefer the shade, we could move?" She offered, shaking out her fur daintily.

Larkin felt an affinity with the striped brown Malu. She liked heat too! He wondered what her deity was. The hum of the warm stones against his paws was his god speaking to him; the sunlight stretching down from the sky was his god reaching out to him. He didn't want to move... he casually hunkered down and set his chin on his paws again, his green eyes flickering back and forth between the adults.

Dropping to the ground in a laying position with his front paws folded over the other, Chael gave a smile and shook his head. "No no, thats alright. I'll survive out here for a little bit." He mused gently, not feeling in the mood to be troublesome. Besides, the youth seemed to be reluctant to move from his spot.
"My name is Chael....might I ask who you both are?" He inclinced, shifting his glance from the youth to the rather, odd female. He wasn't sure what...yet something about her just didn't see right.

Bilby nodded, settling lower onto her haunches and lidding her eyes against the brightness a bit. "Fair enough," she replied to Chael, fixing Larkin with her strange gaze. He seemed a cheerful enough individual, and very... open.
The striped Malu's head swiveled back to Chael as he spoke again and her eyes narrowed almost imperceptively.
"My name is Bilby," she responded in an almost bright tone, nodding politely. The female was nothing if not proper. "It's a pleasure to meet the both of you," she added coolly, her smile curling at her muzzle again.

"I'm Larkin." He repeated their names to himself under his breath so he might not forget them. They seemed all right to him; Bilby was a little weird maybe, but amiable enough, and he liked Chael for staying in the sun even though he didn't really want to.
That was something that interested him, so he asked Chael, "How come you live in the desert?" Seemed a bit odd to Larkin that an 'arctic inclined' Malu would live there, where the sun was hottest.

"Likewise, Bilby. Same with you, Larkin."
Chael smiled, it was always interesting to meet new Malu. Ever since he had become an adult, it seemed that the temples bustled with life. He only had two childhood friends, Loki and Thayne. Turning his head as Larkin spoke, he could only help but to chuckle softly at his question.
"I was kind of left here as a child...I grew up here. I know my way home...yet after everyone i've met so far...i've been hesitant to leave it behind. So I stay. "
He nodded lightly to himself, how hard it was indeed. Casting a glance to both Larkin and Bilby, he then questioned, "Are you two originally from here?"

Bilby let her eyes wander briefly to the ground, eyes darting between the small pebbles at her feet before drifting back to the other Malu as they spoke. "Larkin? A charming name," she said with a wink at the younger malu. Tedious proceedings, but all very necissary if she meant to increase the number of her kind who trusted her.
"Mmm," the female murmured thoughtfully, pondering how to answer Chael's question. Deciding to keep it simple, she smiled her sickly sweet smile and nodded, lowering her eyelids as she gazed back at him. "Oh, yes," she said finally, making a sweeping gesture with a forepaw. "Born and raised." There was a hint of irony in the way she spoke, but it was only barely detectable.

So Chael was staying for his friends-- a noble idea, to be sure, but Larkin didn't think he'd do the same. He smiled cheerfully at Bilby's wink. Maybe she was a little strange, but he kind of liked her.
"I'm from around here." He gestured with his nose in a vague kind of circle to indicate the nearby area. In a sense he was imitating Bilby, thinking it was a good way to avoid dwelling on himself too much, but he also didn't know where things were from inside the temple. He didn't spend a lot of time in it.
A light breeze sighed through the couryard. Larkin wrinkled his nose at it and shifted again to a newer patch of sunlight.
