Episode 2 So This Is Love? Part 1 Summer Rain 07 Artemis sat in a low branch of a nearby tree. She had her knees up to her chest, and her back was leaning against the trunk of the young oak. She sighed as her milky eyes looked out to the sunset, a few stars peeking through. As it started to shine, a small dot on her shoulder lit up as if to greet it. Reeshie Hack Shunsui walked beneath some of the trees. It seemed he always knew where to find her. He smiled when he saw her trademark glow. He guessed it was one of the things that drew him to her in the first place. Nah, it was her attitude. He stopped beneath the tree and tipped his hat down over his eyes.
"You know, you look really pretty in the fading light with your stars all a twinkle," he said in his soft, yet deep, voice. Summer Rain 07 She jumped sligtly at the sudden rumble of her voice. "Oh, Shunsui-san, I didn't see you there." She said as she smiled softly. A light blush came acorss her cheeks, causing her to bring her arms to cross infront of her chest. "Thank you." She said as she blinked and looked down to her tail. Reeshie Hack Shunsui chuckled and looked up at her, winking.
"What's this Shunsui-san? It's just Shunsui, Artemis. I'm not Juu," he said with a grin. A brisk wind had blown up as the air cooled with the fading light. He was glad he hadn't made her fall, although, it might have been a good excuse to catch her. Summer Rain 07 She looked back down to him and chuckled. "I guess I've been hanging around him for too long huh.." She asked as she jumped down from the branch, landing on her four paws, She stood up and looked at him. Artemis closed her eyes and shivered lightly. "Its getting nippy out here huh." She said as she looked up to him. Reeshie Hack "Yeah. He's a bad influence when it comes to honorifics. Oh," Shunsui said and slipped his haori from his shoulders.
"Here, it may look odd, but it's really quite warm. And comfortable," he said as he drapped it around her shoulders.
"Better?" Summer Rain 07 She smiled softly as she took the sides of the haori in her hands "I think it looks beautiful." She said as she looked down to the pattern, "And thank you. It feels much better." She said softly as she closed her eyes and leaned against his arm. Reeshie Hack Shunsui's eyes widened and it was his turn to blush and blink. But he only blushed a little! Shinigami Captains don't blush!
He laughed a little under his breath and wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
"It's probably warmer in the shop. And I think I can whip up something warm to drink, too," he said as they started walking. Summer Rain 07 She nodded, and smiled up to him. "Some hot coco would be nice." She said as she walked alongside him. "Shunsui." She looked up to him as they walked into the shop. "I'm sorry about all the things I've done or said to you before..." Reeshie Hack Shunsui paused just inside the doorway of the shop and faced her.
"What are you talking about? You haven't done or said anything I didn't already deserve," he said with his normal, sleepy grin. Something was different with Artemis and it worried him slightly. But he wouldn't show it. He was soft, but not that soft. Summer Rain 07 She nodded, "All those times I've hit you or yelled at you, you didn't deserive any of that," She said as her grip on the haori tightened. "I...I shouldn't have been so hard on you. I guess I was confused." She confessed. Reeshie Hack Shunsui's eyebrows rose and he placed his paws on hers.
"What do you mean, confused? Artemis, I'm used to people being hard on me. Juu, the other captains... I know I probably invite it, but it's who I am," he explained and his paws lightly rubbed hers.
"What's this all about?" he asked softly. Summer Rain 07 She blushed, and looked away. "I was confused about...everything." She said as she pulled the haori closer, taking in his sent. "I felt something strange ever time I was around you. I didn't know what it was, so I tried to avoid it, along with you in the process." She said as she looked up to him. "What I'm trying to say..." she started, but her tongue seemed to hold itself. Reeshie Hack Shunsui placed his fingers under her chin and held it in place.
"Artemis..." he whispered, gently rubbing her face with his thumb.
"You don't have to say anything," he added. God, he hoped he was right. If he was, well the better for the both of them. If he wasn't... Well, hopefully she'd forgive him. He slowly leaned down and kissed her lips. Summer Rain 07 Her eyes widdened when they met, but she slowly relaxed in his arms and closed her eyes, returning the kiss. She slowly parted, and looked up to him with her bright eyes. She smiled, and slowly walked away, "I'll be in the kitchen boiling the water." Reeshie Hack Shunsui blinked in surprise at her off-hand remark, but a grin slowly spread on his face as realization dawned. She hadn't hit him or gotten mad in any way. He dashed after her and placed both paws on the frame of the kitchen door, leaning in slightly.
"Be careful. That thing tends to get in the way around the kitchen," he said, his ears perked happily and his tail actually waved back and forth. Summer Rain 07 She smiled and looked back to him, flicking her tail, the bottom of the haori flipping over. "I'm sure I'll manage." she said as she took a pot and walked over to the sink to fill it up with water. "Is hot coco alright?" She asked as she walked back to the stove, and placed the pot onto the metal grate, turning on the fire. Reeshie Hack Shunsui smiled back and walked over to her. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders, hugging her from behind.
"Yeah, coco sounds great," he replied and stepped back so that he was out of her way. Of course, he's probably put a little bit of sake in his, just to spice it up a bit. He grinned, took his bottle out, and poured just a little cup to sip from while he waited. Summer Rain 07 She looked over to him, and rolled her eyes. "Can you go one day without drinking that?" She teased as she placed her hands on her hips. Reeshie Hack Shunsui grinned and took another sip.
"No. Well, maybe, but I'd rather not try," he chuckled and put the cup down. He stepped over to her and tilted his head to one side.
"You'd be even cuter if you scrunched up your nose when you chide," he said, tapping her nose lightly. Summer Rain 07 She closed her eyes, and her nose took the que. She looked up to him, "That felt weird.." She said as she wiggled her nose. She started to laugh. "What was that for?" She asked as she tipped his hat down over his eyes. Reeshie Hack Shunsui laughed and his head jerked down with the hat.
"Hey!" he said and pushed the brim back up so that he could see again.
"Shouldn't you be watching the water?" he asked with a raised eyebrow. Summer Rain 07 She smiled softly, and looked up to him. "Ya, your right." She said as she walked back over to the stove and took the water off the iron. She turned off the water, and walked over to the sink. She took a few mugs out of the cubbard, and poured the water ino the mugs. She then took some chocolate powder from a small container out of a cabnet. She grabbed a few spoons, and started to pour the powder into the mugs. She stirred one, and walked over to hand it to Shinsui. "Here ya go." She took the other in her hand. Reeshie Hack He still had half a mind to put some sake in it, but Shunsui decided to placate her and not drink any more tonight.
"So..." he trailed focusing on the drink in his paws. "All this time, you've had feelings for me?" he asked, his face serious now. It wasn't the hard or sad face he wore in battle, but a happy kind of serious. The topic mattered greatly to him and he wanted to know the truth, not a joke.((To be continued...

Last time on Star-crossed Hearts, the mush continues when the two minds at odds finally admit that they have strong feelings for each other.
But how will their budding relationship react to possible trials in the future?? Will the cocky captain back away? Or will the bright-eyed beauty forever capture his heart?
Shunsui lay on a tree branch just outside of the shop, his tail dangling over the edge. He'd been there almost all afternoon, just thinking about things. His mind tended to wander on days like this, where the wind was nippy and he had little better to do. Add that to the lack of any form of alcohol due to Reeshie's tyrany, and you've got a perfect day for thinking.
And think he did, on the prettiest subject he could think of. Then again, she filled his mind most of the time, so he could barely think of anything else.

Artemis walked out of the shop, and sat down in the shade of a nearby tree. She took a deep breath, and slowly let it out, smiling up as the sun gittered through the branches, bouncing off the leaves.
She took out a small pad of paper that she found in Summer's stuff, and took out a pincle. She looked around, and saw that the scenery was the perfect model. She then started to draw the trees, and the leaves that fell in the crisp autumn weather humming a soft tune to herself.

Shunsui watched as she walked out of the shop and sat down beneath his tree as if his thoughts had conjured her out of thin air. He resituated himself so that his belly was against the branch and his paws folded under his cheek as he watched her draw. What an artist! Although he was bias towards her, in his mind she was the best he'd ever seen, even with only a few sketchy lines on the paper. Yes, definately bias.
His tail wagged back and forth about him, knocking a few leaves onto his back and down to the ground, but he didn't notice. He was in his own little world.

She started to humm out the instrumental begenning of the song as she drew, the few lines slowly turning into the branches of the tree she looked at. Her moon colored eyes looked up from her paper, her mind closed to anything but her song and her paper.
Soon, she started to sing the words to the sing.
Wake up to a sunny day, not a cloud up in the sky
Then it starts to rain, my defenses hit the ground
And they shatter all around, so open and exposed
I found strength in the struggle
Face to face with my trouble

Shunsui's ears perked at the sound of her singing and he listened intently, transfixed by her voice. Bias or no, she really did have a very lovely singing voice. He wondered why she didn't sing more often and decided that she'd gone long enough without knowing he was there. He slowly lowered his tail down and lightly brushed the tip against the tip of her ear in an attempt to get her attention.

Her ear twitched as she suddenly switched her song to something more upbeat. She then started to tap her paw against the ground, her head bobing as she continued to draw, the leaves coming alive as they fell.

He smiled down at her and flicked his tail over her ear again. His head bobbed back and forth as well at her change in tune. He kind of missed that other one, but this was just as good.
"When are you going to look up, my dear?" he whispered under his breath.

Artemis once again flicked her ear, and started to add shading to her artwork. She started to bring it to life, even though there was only gray, black and white on the paper. She brought the rays of sun down onto the paper as she added shadows on the ground that the leaves and branches cast.

"So intent are we, love?" Shunsui asked, he deep voice carrying down to her this time. His eyes sparkled with laughter as his tail flicked back and forth just above her head. He wondered how she would react, other than surprise.

She jumped slightly, and looked up, seeing his fimiliar face. She laughed lightly, and looked back down, runnung a paw through her fur.
"Don't do that Shunsui." She said as she looked back up to him, sighing softly. "You scared me."

He just smiled again and flopped off of the branch, landing deftly on the grass next to her, placing a paw on her shoulder.
"Sorry. I don't mean to scare you, but you can be so into something that very little else gets your attention," he explained and flicked the same ear with his paw this time.
