I read this article a while about in school, and I thought people might enjoy it and some of the perspective it might offer. Please read the article, and then share your thoughts on it with everyone. Man I feel sorry for the kids; it sounds like it scared the crap out of them. Also to perform all bodily functions as rituals? gonk

I would suggest you look at the name Nacirema and then see what it spells backwards. 3nodding

IY_and_MCR Holy-mouth-man?! *Laughs hard* I'm going to refer to them all as holy-mouth-men from now on. I thought that was interesting to read. Thank you, lurichan. *lol* Yes, it is funny isn't it. I read it a long time ago in anthropology, and just thought about it again. I remember the first time I read it, it took till about half way through before I went. "wait a minute...."

I read to the section about the men scraping their faces before I figured it out lmao.
The worst part is that I was thinking "There is a tribe out there that does these things?! What the ******** is wrong with them?!?" hahahaha.

What truly shocks me isn't the paper per se but rather the comments people make upon figuring this out; I mean it's hard to believe most people don't comprehend/believe our culture is no more advanced than, say, the Incans or Mesopotamians and yet many stare in utter shock and amazement when such a thing is presented.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. ^_^ I really like how it gets people to take a step back from how they usually see the world around them, and think about how other people might see things. How a complete outsider (aliens/different culture/people from a different time/etc) might view our world.
