User ImageKara had been gone for far too long. Sure she regretted leaving, but everyone needed the peace and quiet for a while. The loner blood was still heavy in her system. She doubted if she would ever truly get rid of it. In times like these she yearned for company, and so she returned home. To meet those who were -quite amazingly - loyal to her. Thoughts of Kaho and Phantom raced in her head. She was happy that Phantom was gone, but it was only to a point. The other half of her knew that only danger and destruction could come of it. It was best to have an enemy that you knew, and chances are that wasn't going to be the case with whatever took over fear in others hearts now.

Kara knew she wanted to see Jori again. The wolf had sprung to protect her even after they had hardly met. No questions act, just a quick action of malice towards the one that had threatened the pack alpha. That was loyalty that you could never buy. Then there was Carey, a sweet wolf, though highly malicious in her own intents. Kara liked her for her weaving of words.

Most of all Ran plagued her mind, as always. Kaho's words echoed in her mind. You shouldn't Kara. So she hadn't. Yet still the thoughts stayed, as they would into eternity, no doubt. She had asked the river to take her. Instead she had woken up with blisters and sores from spending hours in the rushing water. Her skin had been swolen and even now the hair was still thin in places where it had been rubbed off.

She found herself running as she loved, though this time far from the river. There would be plently of times for river running when she made it back to home. The day was bright, there were a few clouds in the sky. The sun scattered through the trees, waving across the ground in an eerie fashion. It sparkled over her red fur with a silent laugh, causing her to spur on faster. She loved days like these, ones that were far too hot for most wolves. It kept her own solitude, but allowed her passage into their hearts through respect. The cold is what she loathed. Her thin coat could never account for it. Not to mention she was an extremely tall wolf. Matched Phantom in hight, in fact, but certainly never size. . .

The dead rabbit was cold in her mouth, the body heat having long since left before she could reach for it. It slid against her tongue in a manner she did not approve of. Stale, dead, and sticky slime. She supposed that was what she got cohorting with an absent minded male who seemed to forget her commandments so shortly after she had spoken them. Ah-! Aziz could have him back, if she wanted. Perhaps she kept him around merely to enjoy the utterly pathetic whore-wolf grope around for her almost-as-pathetic mate. Even as Ryukkii swallowed it with some effect of disappointment- the large black male was rambling on about whatever fool thing she had promised him last.

“What of this magic?!” The monstrous wolf spoke, his jaws clapping down with an annoying quality to them. Ryukkii flanked her ears. Did he have to yell everything? It was bad enough that her head ached constantly. She chewed weakly for a few moments before responding, crinkling her nose as she did.

“What magic, dear?” She swayed, and nudged the carcass away. It rolled limply once towards the edge- and she pushed it once more so it fell with a small splat three feet below her. At once the large brute was upon it- and after a few quick snaps of his jaw, the animal was crushed and forgotten.

There was the sound of him swallowing bones, and distastefully she looked away as he spoke between bites. “THE MAGIC?!” he half roared, making the small grey female rather pleased she had chosen a higher seat then he. “The magic that will make me young again!” He balked.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” She swayed, her voice flat. “What ever put that idea in your mind?”

There was a pause, and she could feel Carius becoming confused. It was always the way- tell him one thing, wait an hour, and pretend it had never happened. Carius forgot things as quickly as a brook flowed, but he doubted himself perhaps more then he realized. He was embarrassed over the fact that he couldn’t remember- and it made her dealings with him, although tedious, exceedingly easy.

“I thought you said-“ He started, still half yelling, but lower now. It was about as low as his voice got, and the grey soaked in the moments. “They call you a witch.”

“They do.” Actually, they called Amélie a witch. “But I can’t say I ever remember saying that.” She did.

All this noise was going to give her a headache. For once she’d like to make it home without a disturbance. Didn’t other wolves know it was death to be out and about in such weather? In any case, the grumblings were so loud Kara found herself drifting towards them out of distinct curiosity. What on earth could cause such a ruckus? And why?

She soon found the source of bickering. It came from two wolves, driving comments back and forth. A male (of enormous build) and a much smaller, strange female. Neither of the likes she had ever seen before. Her tail flicked in agitation, not wanting to be engaged in a pointless trifle. Yet as she watched it would seem the female was simply taking things in stride. It was in fact the overly large male who was paining her sensitive ears. The term ‘witch’ was quite prevalent.

Her eyes flicked from face to face, deciding after the repetition of thus several times there was no danger in finding exactly what was going on. Perhaps the information would be useful to her. Maybe it would simply provide as a source of entertainment. Shaking in her head disdainfully she strode forward, body showing adamant signs that she was an alpha. It just might be better to exert some status in events, or they might use you to their advantage. She’d been hanging around the crazies far to long. Paranoid they called it.

“Pardon me,” she butted in, displaying an amazing level of politeness. “But what’s with all the yelling. Surely there can’t be anything wrong on such a day?”

“You damn, crazy stupid-“ Carius was roaring, the taunt muscles in his neck flexing as he did. Ryukkii viewed him pensively through veiled eyes. The thought had occurred to her on more then one occasion that the time might come where his brain would catch up with him, and he might turn on her. Certainly- she’d seen him rough up the old black female something horrible. Phib’s mother, wasn’t it? She didn’t see the resemblance. He must have taken after the father. Woman didn’t seem to have much of a spirit- unless Carius had beat it out of her.

Not her place, anyways.

Ryukkii clicked the roof of her mouth with her tongue as she considered the best route to go- when a long red female approached them from the left. Her tail was flanked up and toting her status, and a vague smirk played across the grey female’s face. Ah! An alpha are we! She thought, but her words could make no form when Carius suddenly reeled.

A confused Carius was a dangerous one- and the sight of a woman with her tail up in the air like she owned something sent hot blood through him. The monster of a wolf turned with a feral snarl and approached her threateningly, gnashing his teeth together sharply. “Insolent b***h!” The dumb brute snapped, his paws digging into the earth. Stupid, stupid- better place for a woman was beneath him. “Today is today!” He spoke.

It made no sense, but then again, nothing he said usually did.

Who was she anyways? Aziz? No, no. She was black. Black like Phib! His mind suddenly snapped. Was she him-? Wait, no. No she wasn’t him. He was older. And, more manly. Actually- he was a man. He hadn’t the faintest idea who she was.

He looked like he might charge her- and with a sigh, Ryukkii heaved her chest and looked away. Carius liked to maim things; and certainly, it was probably the only thing he was good for. She was a rather big female- this red one. It might have been interesting to watch- but, ah. Violence didn’t amuse her anymore. It was flat and dead.

“Carius, now why would you attack your own sister?” Ryukkii mused haphazardly.

Carius blinked at Kara and shook his head, allowing his previous death trance to fall, and he fell into a stumbling confusion. “...ufff??” The brute uttered and he cocked his head and sat, murderous intents forgotten.

“Mm, I’d think not. Much better to knock around Aziz, not strange sisterly females.” Ryukkii prawled, glancing once through her ringed good eye at the Red one.

If she couldn’t catch her game- well, Ryukkii had little care to help her if she riled Carius back up again.

The red's eyes flicked from giant black to strange - almost ugly - female. A laughing sigh escaped her lips in a quick rush of air before it was silenced by her clamped teeth. “Crazy b***h,” she corrected him, settling onto her haunches with the relaxation one would give a family member.

It was common knowledge that she was, in fact, insane. Her moods went on uncontrollable swings depending on which soul was around. All things aside, she detested violence, seeing no point in its upbringing. Engaging with a haughty male who had little care for his life would be a surefire disaster. Best to sit and watch, perhaps nimbly move in case those gnashing teeth came a little too close.

Kara soon found it was unnecessary to worry. The brain in the head of the other must have been no bigger than a pea. No one fell for ‘the brother’ excuse. For a moment she considered denying the accusation of the female, hoping perhaps the male would charge and crack his skull on a tree. Wisdom told her better of it. Besides this, there was a twinge of curiosity when it came to siblings. In her lifetime she had never had a one. Small fantasies of having a brother to protect fell to mind. So alluring, in fact, she inadvertently decided to commit to the females claims. “You can’t say you don’t remember me, brother? At least your own name?” she spoke softly, calmly.

Inquisitive nature quickly got the best of her. She shifted in her position, ears rotating as she watched the scene at hand. Her eyes flicked towards the female in question for so rief a second only one looking would catch it. It was meant to ask, “What the hell is going on here?” But whether or not the memo got across, or the female could answer, would require more of the patience of waiting.

The monestrous brute shifted his hips, struggling to comprehend the situation in the swiss cheese of his mind. Did he have a sister? He didn’t remember one, but then again, he didn’t remember a lot of things. It embarrassed him that he couldn’t remember. And an embarrassed Carius was quite a dangerous one. With a flinch he eyed the sickly grey, who peered at him appreciatively. She didn’t say anything, and with a flicker of fire running through his blood, he knew she was setting him up. For what, he didn’t know.

“My name is Carius.” He spoke lowly- but for most wolves, it still would have been considered unnecessarily loud. Ryukkii had wondered if he had hearing problems- but it had never come up between them. “I remember that.” He blistered. “You I don’t remember!” Carius half accused, before darting his eyes back and forth, and sinking to his hips.

“Don’t you remember her?” The grey wolf swayed, curling the end of her tail. It brought a shot of white pain through her body, but she did not flinch.

Carius flustered and snapped his jaws together. He really was a most unusual looking freak of a wolf. There didn’t seem to be a part of him that didn’t seem too large- even his wrists were fat with muscle. And although it might have been quite impressive- there was something not desirable about the build of this wolf. Something unnatural- and his strength had never attracted any females, perhaps instinctivly sensing a peculiarity in genetics. He looked more bear then wolf, and he lacked any sleek grace which made wolves wonderful.

Irritably, he scratched the worn leather collar around his throat. “I don’t remember anything.” He blistered again, and shot a glance to his sister. He couldn’t put things together. Her colors didn’t match him- but she was sorta big herself, for a woman, and he decided he’d believe it for the moment. Luckily for the two women- Carius would probably soon forget ever doubting the fact, and having hunted for Ryukkii previously.

“My sister.” He mumbled. “I don’t know her name.”

Kara tensed as the male shifted uneasily. The hair rose on the back of her neck, but she did not portray any other sense of alarm. She had to keep her cool for this to work and actually believe that this might go according to plan. What plan? What on earth was she doing anyway? She would hate to be attacked by the gargantuan male, but was this female any safer. Even the ones that looked near death could be your passage to the afterlife. Finally he spoke, relieving the tension that had been building up in her muscles. He might actually be considering it a truth!

“Carius,” she played with the name on her tongue. It wasn’t a very pretty concoction of words, but it seemed to fit his misdemeanor and size. If she was questioned about saying his name she would reply that she was drying to grab his attention. In doing so it was necessary to say just a little bit more. She didn’t have to, he spoke again.

“I’m sorry,” she pitied him. “It must be awful not to remember your own sister.” She eyed him beneath furrowed brows, her tail flicking casually over the earth. This was almost becoming a relaxing routine. Her eyes quickly glanced to the female, but unfortunately she wouldn’t be much aid in keeping things quiet.

“Since you don’t remember, its Kara. Ring a bell?” Of course it wouldn’t. She had never seen or heard of this Carius in her entirety, but this other female intrigued her. He had been screaming bloody murder at her earlier, but now he seemed to have forgotten his trifles. She couldn’t be of any distinct relation to him, they looked absolutely nothing alike. At least she had height on her side. “Tell me brother what is it that ails you?” It was a natural thing for a sister to do, jump to the aid of her brother. “This female hasn’t been a bother?” Or at least normal siblings. The things in these words were to messed up to be explained on terms of normality.

The diseased grey pulled her head back and arched her ears, giving perhaps the most surprised look she had given anyone in quite some time. It was not one of alarm- but a kind of waking look. Ah! So the big one had a brain in her head. Clever clever. Carius would fall for that one hard. It’d take an hour to purge him of this dellusion, something which Ryukkii could only half feel exasperated about. She’d been the one to put the notion in his head.

And the notion took hold when Kara asked about Ryukkii. Remembering his argument with her, he sucked in a heavy breath and exhaled, curling his obnoxiously curly tail against his muscular hips. “Yes!” He spoke in his usual, half yelling voice. Ryukkii docked an ear to stop her left eye from twitching. “The witch promised me magic, but I have gotten none!” He gurgled, and snapped his jaws together once. “I was going to eat her but then you came.”

Ryukkii made a puff noise and shook her head. “Carius, really. Magic now? Surely you are mistaken love. I asked for a hare.”

Carius was now stuck in the middle of two conversations, and being half lucid most of the time, he randomly broke off into two separate drabbles. “Kara. Kara. Aza- no. Phib. No. I...” He lowered his head in embarrassment. “I don’t remember your name. But I don’t remember anyone’s name.”

And he concluded it by- “But you said so!” He growled.

Kara knew she had met her mark home when the other's expression changed. She did not, however, expect the answer that Carius gave the grey. It was a strange and twisted element.

"Carius," she spoke softly, no more than a whisper. "Magic cannot be given, it just is. No promise can change it." Besides, she thought to herself, eating another wolf was an atrocity. She would have no brother of hers committing a crime Phantom would have, even if he wasn't her brother at all. She had already begun to think he was, and wasn't about to let him, or the grey forget it.

"Never the less we need to settle this straight." She rose to her feet, circling around to stand by her much more masculin 'brother'. "You've asked for hare, he's thinking magic. How does a request turn into a statement of a gift?" It was all very strange, there had to be some background she was missing here. Carius wasn't very bright, but at least he was determined. She wondered how easily he'd be to tweak and shape to her will, but she wouldn't follow through with such treachery.

"Eating her isn't going to solve anything anyways. She'd be winning then. Perhaps some conglamerative agreement will suffice?"
PostPosted: Wed Nov 15, 2006 7:14 am

Carius looked at Kara like her head had suddenly popped open and some strange otherworldly leech had crawled out. “...Agreement?” He sputtered. It was quite possible, that over the years of forgetfulness, that language had taken a striking toll as well. But in all actuality- Carius probably never used the word ‘agree’ in his vocabulary during any section of his life.

Ryukkii bored of all of this, but she leaned slightly downwards to address the question. “Why! Because I told him. He’ll believe anything you tell him- so long as you know his name and some magic words.” There was nothing magic about the fact that he was an idiot.

Carius couldn’t connect to two revelent conversations together, and it made him agitated. “Who is?” He snapped.

“No one lovely.” The grey female pooled, and curled her tail. “I asked for a hare. I got one, and in a few more minutes, he’ll perhaps forget I even asked. His head doesn’t work right. It works fine for me.”

Interesting, the grey mused. She wondered perhaps what the other would do.

Kara shook her head in disdain, her ears flattened against her skull. Her body went into a sort of chance as she thought, tongue clucking against the roof of her mouth to the rythymn of her swishing tail. For a moment it may have seemed she had lost her sanity - taken she had some to begin within - but soon she came to terms with reality. "It seems to me, grey one, that he doesn't have enough wits to figure the whole situation." She rose, her teeth clacking together in annoyance.

"Perhaps you shouldn't take control of the challenged in such a malevolent fashion." Her eyes closed for a moment, breaths coming a little faster now. She had to control her anger. This Carius reminded her of Ran, and how everyone thought she was stupid. She wasn't. Just misunderstood. Like herself.

Then something else came over her mind, a memory. Her furred end flicked with agitation, but she tried nothing. "Well, Carius, stay here and waste your time with this female, or go do something useful." She leered at him with some newfound fire. "Pray that you don't forget me a second time." With a hardened glare towards the grey to prove a point she hadn't stated, Kara made her leave into the prushing, hoping no one would call her back with angry words. She didn't have time for such trifles. She needed to get back.
