Savius walked peacefully out of the suburban neighborhood, bloody but content. The sunset half light easily hid the mess of his clothes, and anyway, who was going to approach a guy with a sword as big as his. Mind, he hadn't used it. He hadn't killed the guy. He would, next time, but this time he'd just wanted to scare him.

To hurt him back.

It hadn't been hard to find him again, he'd gone to that same park, and waited. It'd only taken a couple days. And now the b*****d was broken and bloody. For his part, the Kestrel felt much better about himself.

The street lights were just coming on, creating hard shadows where softness had existed before. Savius marveled at how very long his was. Taller than he was, of course, but tall because he was tall. He opened his wings, studying the shapes he could make.

Reaching the apartment complex, he hesitated on the steps. He didn't want to go up, not yet. He felt so good.

Hurting him had felt so very good.

The jingling Xaxis rounded the corner of the street, Sharpie loyally trotting at his side. The black and pink dog was a good companion, and Xaxis utterly adored the little lady. She wasn't a huge dog, but muscle was well hid underneath her thick coat of fur. She wasn't completely helpless in a fight, and something told Xaxis the pup wasn't entirely full grown.

Lost in his own reveries from the days previous, mostly the attention he'd recieved from Iamel, the bird didn't notice Savius standing aways down the sidewalk. In the back of his mind, if the raven had paid any sort of attention, he would have KNOWN that his friend was somewhere in the area, but then again, he was partially keeping his eyes out for the familiar wooden-sword weilding child. Old habits were hard to break, even though he knew his friend was tall.

Thankfully, Sharpie knew the feel of Kin, and her ears perked up in curiousity. Who was this one? It had wings, was tall, and had a similar sort of feel. Trotting forwards, keeping herself in front of Xaxis just in case, the silent dog didn't dare keep her eyes off the stranger.

A warning woof was directed at Xaxis, hoping to pull his head out of the clouds and focus on the sword-weilding-winged one in front of them.

It worked.

Glancing around, wondering what on earth Sharpie was barking at, Xaxis laid eyes on a person. With wings. And a sword!

Wait a minute, wait a minute~! Giving him a double take, Xaxis stopped dead in his tracks. "Savius?" He chirpped, head tilting to the side in the most bird-like manner. It had to be him~! He certainly felt like Kin, had the same kestrel-wings, and kestrel-hair, and . . .

But glasses? And was that a real sword!?

Wow.

The raven gave a little giggle, thoroughly impressed by his friend. "I'd heard you gotten tall," he chattered, bridging the distance between the two, Sharpie trotting faithfully at his heels.

As he got closer, the last of the sun and the dim street lights gave proof that his clothes were stained. There was also the all too familiar scent of blood, one the raven could pick out anywhere. So, he'd gotten into a fight, had he?

Xaxis really wasn't surprised.

"I see your sword grew with you," he greeted amicably, eyes bright, "All I got were jingles." A little shake of his hips, to prove his point. Yes, the raven was proud of his anklets, bracelets, scarves and jingle-goodness. If he couldn't be tough like Diacyn and Savius, or charismatic and hyperactive and extroverted like Iamel, then at the very least he could be jingly and that was all that mattered.

At the sound of his name, Savius turned away from his shadow, glancing over his shoulder to see what voice could be so familiar yet new while also carrying the flavor of kin. He had no trouble identifying the Raven. It was the wings really, having groomed them more than once, the Kestrel knew those wings quite well. And if they'd changed a bit, if all of his friend had changed more than a little bit, well Iamel had prepared him for that.

Not to mention his own change.

"Xaxis." Soft, now deeper voice still surprisingly soothing and somehow trustworthy. He could be tyrant or poet king with a voice like that. He could be whispering advisor, twisting the throne to his desires. Maybe he would be, or had been. At the moment, he was just a teenage boy, smiling mildly at an old and new friend.

"I thought you might have grown." He stepped forward, circling Xaxis and looking him over openly. Eyebrows went up at the little shake of hips, it seemed strange that a member of kin should be so... pretty. Something there, that he wasn't ready to explore yet. Maybe he'd be more curious if he wasn't so self content and sated at the moment.

"Pretty hair." He reached out to touch a strand of black without hesitation. Xaxis was his friend. That gave him a right to pet him.

The raven was immensely pleased to see his friend. Like Iamel, Savius had stretched out with height, though with how lanky he had been as a child Xaxis wasn't entirely surprised. They were all so different, but the same all at once. It was fun, in a way, to re-explore his dear friends. Physically the changes were obvious, but it would take time to see if their personalities would stay the same.

Iamel hadn't been nearly as hyperactive and obnoxious, and Xaxis had felt more . . . open . . than weeks previous. Distanced and aloof, certainly, but he felt more at ease when it came to voicing his opinion.

Had Savius matured too? Not that the sword-wielding raptor had ever had much of a problem with maturity.

Eyes bright, the raven was pleased by his friends touch to his hair. Having called on the kestrel to untangle his wings on more than one occassion, Xaxis was most comfortable with the sensation. "It grew, along with the rest of me," the diseased guardian opened his wings, his smile fading to slip into the slightest of pouts. "Though I'm afraid I haven't gotten any healthier." His wings were proof of that. The ebony feathers were still a tangled, pitiful mess. Loose feathers continued to leave a trail behind the Guardian, and their glossy colour could be contributed more to oil than healthy-shine.

"But," Xaxis continued, coy smile quickly hiding his displeasure, "that's neither here nor there. I'm not entirely surprised." Reaching up a hand, he traced his fingers down the edge of Savius' glasses. Now that was surprising! Raptors had fantastic eyesight, so what gave?

"Are these for beauty purposes only? Or did your eyes get gipped this time around?" He slid them off his friends face, only to stick them on himself and give the red rims a try.

"You're such a mess." Savius shook his head, fingers leaving the Raven's hair and moving down to brush lightly over the teens wings. A light touch here, a quick twist there to remove a loose hanging feather. Maybe the Kestrel had changed but whatever those changes were they didn't show in his current actions, so like what he'd done when they were still little.

The theft of the glasses went almost unnoticed as he focused on Xaxis's wings, but the Kestrel managed to offer a slow half smile for his friend.

"They don't suit you." He admitted, with a shake of his head. "You're too pretty for them. I just wear 'em for fun, really."

Why not wear glasses? They'd looked cool when he'd found them, laying around and abandoned, and he'd picked them up almost absent mindedly. Luckily, his vision had not gone bad as he aged, though he still missed the excellent sight he'd had as a bird. Now if he could find glasses that would bring that back for him, life would be good.

And... he was having an impossible time getting at the boys wings properly while standing like this.

"C'mere." He ordered, stepping forward and leaning down a bit. Without further warning Savius had one arm under the boys knees and another under his shoulders, a position that allowed him to lift the raven up and carry him toward the stairs.

It was surprising, Xaxis really wasn't that heavy, all things considered. Not as heavy as Savius had expected, anyway. A bit bony, all told, but considering his own lanky form, he could hardly complain. And the Kestrel, as he'd found out in his recent fight, was stronger than he looked.

"You smell good." He noted, nuzzling Xaxis's hair and openly breathing in the scent of him. It was a strange, heady, even hungry feeling, breathing in the other boy, that was so unlike his usual mild detachment. Like when he fought, Savius felt himself feeling... something, and strongly. And like when he fought, he liked it.

He reached the stairs, Raven boy still in his arms, and sat down, Xaxis in his lap. "That's better."

The raven gave a sigh, glancing over his shoulder as his friend picked at his wings. "I know," he agreed, inwardly glowering at his diseased form. Why he had this problem, he didn't understand. It wasn't as if Iamel had to worry about blowing off his own limbs, or Savius didn't chop himself up with his swords. So why was he always suffering from disease. . .? He was supposed to control the power, not succumb to it!

Oh well. Maybe he'd ask Shanuh about it, next time he crossed the pretty man. Maybe the shopkeep would know something, maybe he wouldn't but it surely wouldn't hurt to ask. If only he could be healthy for once. . . for a few days or a few hours!

But, this was life and he was used to the aches and pains that came with it.

C'est la vie, or so the saying went.

And then the conversation changed. Before he had an oppurtunity to respond, glasses still in tact to his face, the raven gave a little starteled squeak. He found himself scooped up, wings poofing out (and therefor dropping a few to the ground) in surprise. Out of reaction, he did slip a bony arm around his friends neck, violet eyes wide. No, he didn't think Savius was going to carelessly drop him, but . . . he wasn't exactly used to being carried.

Thankfully, the raven relaxed as soon as the surprise wore off. As Savius complimented his scent, Xaxis couldn't help but openly grin, despite a bit of colour touching his cheeks. He so did very much enjoy being complimented. He might be diseased, but he could still be pretty.

"Why thank you," he crooned, stomach twisting in knots in a similar way it had with Iamel. Xaxis liked to be close to his friends, apparantly. There was something nice about it, something fun in having physical contact with one another. Why he hadn't noticed it before as a boy . . well . . maybe he just hadn't been paying enough attention.

As it was, he didn't mind being in his friends arms, and most certainly didn't mind sitting on his lap! Just like the other night, except they were on stairs instead of a carousel. Xaxis craned his head to better study his friend. Savius looked . . . different without his glasses. With them on or off, the gold eyed raptor still was very pleasant to study. Oh, the raven had such pretty friends!

Reaching up, he removed Savius' glasses, only to return them to their rightful owner's face.

"That was much better than a piggy back ride." All things considered, it probably was much more comfortable. Iamel may have his friend carry him around on his shoulders, but at least Xaxis could say he was carried too.

Amazing, really. "I like your lap better than Iamel's," the raven also decided, shifting his position to get more comfortable. As fun as he'd had with Iamel, Savius had a little more weight and muscle than Iamel, which made him (in Xaxis' very limited experienced opinion) more comfortable.

"Were you sitting on Iamel too?" The Kestrel asked, attempting to get at the Raven's wings and quickly realizing that there was no hope of success while he was on his lap. Still, he didn't immediately push the other boy off, it felt good to have the warm bony weight of him so close, and he was reluctant to pull away from that. And for all his scarves and jingles, Xaxis had plenty of uncovered skin available for nuzzling and petting. Though it might be nicer if his own skin wasn't mostly covered.

But nevermind that. There was a messy raven in his lap, and those wings weren't going to preen themselves. On the other hand... it was starting to get cold, and sickly birds weren't supposed to be out in the chilly night air.

"Wanna go inside?" He asked, glancing over his shoulder at the door to the apartment building. His earlier desire to linger and enjoy the evening light had faded, and besides, as he was just noticing with the closeness of the elegantly dressed raven, he was a bloody mess.

"I need to get cleaned up."

The raven was content to stay on his friends lap. Like he had discovered with Iamel, there was nothing wrong with being "close" to Kin. He enjoyed the warmth his friend shared, the touch of his fingers and the feel of his body underneath his.

It was comfortable, in an organic sort of way. Natural.

A shame he hadn't realized such things up until now. But, then again, this was the first time Savius had been this close to him. Besides being preened, the last time they'd had much contact had been when the Kestrel had been no more than a bird.

At his friends question, Xaxis couldn't help but grin a silly smile, eyes lighting in memory. "Indeed I was - but he started it, really. He started the kissing, which lead to him pulling me in his lap," Ah yes - as if the raven had been so innocent~! Of course, Xaxis had never thought about kissing his woodpecker friend, but he certainly hadn't objected when it happened.

It was nice, sitting on the steps, evening overwhelming the city. Of course, the fall air was chilly, and even with Savius to snuggle with, the raven couldn't deny he was getting cold.

He'd never quite warmed up since being out with Iamel the few nights previous. Probably another cold, but Xaxis didn't want to risk catching pneumonia. Then he'd be stuck inside for days or even weeks~! It was a good thing his diseases werne't contagious, else he'd never get to see his friends.

"And you call me a mess," Xaxis teased, reaching a hand over to trace his fingers down Savius' bloodied shirt. After a moment, he poked his chest, eyes light with good humor. "Well come on then, it'll be nice to get out of the cold."

Of course, Xaxis didn't bother to get up. Not yet. Playfully, he waited just a moment to see if he could hitch another ride from his friend. It wasn't that he was lazy, he was merely loathe to leave the comfort of his current position.

"Yeah I know." Savius shook his own head in mock disgust though the splotches of blood didn't bother him. Felt natural, actually. Familiar, perhaps. Whatever. The point was, he wasn't exactly grossed out by a little gore. Still, bloody cuddling wasn't quite what he had in mind. Xaxis was too pretty for that, and he didn't want to stain the other bird's scarves.

"Alright." With that said, he stood, scooping the Raven back up and taking the steps up to the door two at a time. Now that he was thinking about it, he could actually feel the sharp chill in the air, and the desire to get himself and his friend inside was a strong one.

Of course, getting up to the apartment was going to be a bit of a challenge. Strong or not, carrying the Raven up twenty flights of stairs just wasn't going to happen. It would have to be the elevator then, though Savius often took the stairs when he was alone.

Was Lithle home? There was no way to be sure. Jer'ain would be, and Taylor. It didn't really matter. A teen now, he was basically an entity to himself. Which didn't mean he ignored his family, just that he didn't have to answer to any silly rules.

"Button, Pretty." He instructed, leaning close to the 'up' arrow so that Xaxis could press it. His own hands were full.

Xaxis giggled softly as his friend scooped him up for a second time. Completely relaxed, the raven doubted any other Bird could get away with carrying him this way. The aloof, somewhat mistrusting raven felt far too vulnerable and exposed. If dropped, there was no way he could catch himself, and being cradled his wings and limbs had very limited movement.

But it was Savius who was toting him around, and that made all the difference.

As they entered the apartment complex, the raven realized he'd never actually visited Savius' house before. They never managed to make it back to one or anothers homes. Of course the Raven completely understood! He never invited people over to where Lucien and he resided, it just never occurred to the raven to invite them in.

Then again, if he was with Iamel, chances were they'd visit his house (and the fifty million children in residence). So what was Lithle and Savius' domain like? Savius had siblings, maybe he'd run in to them too.

At the command, the raven reached a slender arm out to push the elevator button. Glancing back at his friend while they waited for the doors to open, he reached up to toy with some of the Kestrel's hair. "You don't have to carry me in the elevator if you don't want to," he reminded his friend, little smile tugging at the corners of his lips. He was capable of walking himself, even in his wooden clog shoes, and it wasn't requiered of his friend to tote him around.

"I'd offer to give you a lift, but . . . " the raven couldn't help but snicker at the thought. Him? Carry Savius? Yeah right. Like that was going to happen any time soon! "I just don't see that as being possible anytime in the near future. So I'll have to pay you back for all your preening and carrying in another way."

He didn't want the Kestrel to think he took him for granted, not at all! The problem was (to Xaxis at any rate) it was difficult to actually do things for Savius. He was so independent to begin with, so calm and cool and composed, that finding a way to pay back favors wasn't easy. There just wasn't a lot Xaxis could personally do or offer that Savius needed or would like.

A shame the little raven wasn't more talanted or richer.

All he was good at was being sick and jingling when he walked.

Oh well.

A ringing bell announced the arrival of the "up" elevator. With a quiet rumble, the doors opened to allow the winged passengers entrance.

Walking into the elevator with his arms full of Raven, Savius allowed himself to lean against the back wall, kicking the button of his floor with one long leg. Of course, it wasn't exactly a good position to stay in, what with the sword strapped to his back and everything, so he quickly stood up straight, shifting Xaxis's weight a bit as he did so.

Apparently, he had no intention of putting the other boy down.

"Silly." The label was awarded to Xaxis with another nuzzle, as Savius took advantage of the fact that he had the pretty, delicious smelling, pettable raven right in his arms, unable to run off. Nice. "I take care of myself, just fine. And you too, when I need to."

Shifting again, though careful to continue to support the other teen's weight, he managed to get his fingers free enough to run lightly over Xaxis's arm. "All you need to do is relax and look pretty."

Was he flirting? Perhaps by some definitions of the term. Except, of course, that Savius had no real concept of what flirting was. It was one of those things that his sketchy socialization had never filled in. Certainly Lithle didn't flirt, and he took only the most mild interest in what mortals outside his immediate family did with their time.

He was being honest, as he saw it. It was rare that Savius didn't state his true feelings about the subject. Deception took too much effort.
PostPosted: Wed Oct 18, 2006 12:36 pm

Xaxis continued to stroke his friends hair, running fingers through the multi-coloured streaks. He had soft hair - for all of his strength and violent magic, Savius could be just as gentle and soft as any of them. It was a nice mix, really. Slowly, he moved his fingers away form Savius' hair to softly caress the nape of his neck and hairline.

So, all he had to do was relax and look pretty. . . ? That was something the raven boy could do. If Savius had no intention of putting him down, then he might as welly fully relax. With a light sigh, the raven let go the last of his inhibition and abandoned himself to the confines of Savius' arms. It was strangely comforting to be held so carefully by his friend.

Closing his eyeys for a moment, the raven gave a quiet murr. His friends fingers petting his arm, the hum of the elevator, the sudden shock of warmth against his earlier cold, it was all very lulling. Xaxis was completely relaxed for the time being, a luxury the bird couldn't often afford.

Opening his eyes again - he didn't want to fall asleep in his friends arms - the raven studied his friend. He still looked like the same old kestrel, but there was something much more adult, something more predatorial about him. With the sword strapped to his back, Savius was easily returning to his roots as a hunter.

"Is this relaxed and pretty enough for you?" Xaxis asked, eyebrows rising delicately in question.

"Very nice." Savius responded approvingly, smiling down at the drowsy boy in his arms, noting that he seemed more like than a cat then a bird in that moment.

And then they were there, the elevator opening on the short hallway that lead to 'home'. There weren't any other doors on the floor, but that was probably for the best. Savius could imagine all to well what might happen if Lithle had neighbors.

Walking up to the door, and knowing full well that it'd be locked, he kicked it a few times, a thump thump thump intended to gain himself and his pretty toy admittance. There was a pause before the door opened, revealing his sister, tall lanky androgonous thing, peering out with a frown.

'rain. As far as mortals went, he loved her, as much as he was capible of loving someone who's life he could feel, fragile and fading, everytime he became too focused. He'd spent too much time with her, imparted his prejudices. She'd spent too much time with Lithle, Lithle and her hurt and her hate. Unlike the Kestrel, she internalized it.

Or maybe something had happened that she hadn't told either of them.

Either way, she didn't trust anyone much who wasn't family. Mortals anyway. Like Savius, she loved Kin. Because of Savius, she loved Kin.

Which was why the glare faded as she noted the distinct features of the boy in Savius's arms, why she stepped aside with a warm smile. "Is he thirsty? Are you thirsty? Taylor's sleeping." A pause. "V, you're all bloody."

"'s nothing 'rain. Bring us some soda's ok? How's Dad?" Even as he spoke he carried the Kestrel into the house, a stark dull place. The furniture was expensive, but utilitarian. There was nothing on the walls.

"Out." She walked toward the kitchen as she talked, all right in her world. Paused, "Does he like ice?"

"Do you like ice?"
PostPosted: Wed Oct 18, 2006 9:57 pm

Xaxis glanced over at his shoulder as Je'rain opened the door, lazy smile still upon his lips. So that was his sister - he'd heard about her in passing, but had never really met the girl, not at all. Thankfully, though, she seemed friendly especially with such open hospitality.

Siblings.

That was something Xaxis always wanted. It had never occurred to him to care for others until Iamel had let him hold his baby brother. The squirmy child had (strangely enough) ilicited some sort of feeling out of the raven. Babies. They were cute and squirmy and squishy. Iamel loved them so, and Savius had siblings, so why shouldn't Xaxis?

He was jealous of his friends, in a distanced sort of way. Lucien wasn't so much of a father figure as nothing more than a guardian - someone who used to give him cough syrup and pet him when he was wracked with fevers and chills. They weren't quite father and son as . . . Guardian and Companion. No more, no less.

Lucien worked a lot, too, which caused the boy to spend many a night by his lonesome. If he wasn't with his friends, or he wasn't at the shop, he was off in his own world. Perhaps that's why he stayed aloof and away from strangers. He had no interest in humans, and his Kin couldn't always be around.

If he'd had brothers or sisters or siblings, maybe everything would be different. He had Sharpie, sure, but Sharpie wasn't exactly what the bird boy craved.

Oh well, maybe someday. . .

Violet eyes flickered over the room, taking in the dark interior. Somehow Xaxis wasn't surprised. It was very plain, and wasn't exactly screaming of warmth. But that didn't matter - this was Savius' domain, and that was all that was necessary. Now what was this about ice? Dragging his eyes away from the furniture, he glanced up at Savius, then over at Jer'rain.

"No ice, please," the bird responded, a small crinkle appearing above the bridge of his nose. Xaxis rather hated ice. In fact, the bird didn't like the cold at all~! More than once in his days of existance, the boy had been force-fed ice chips and ice cubes. If nothing else could stay in his stomach, than ice was his only source of food or hydration.

Now that he was older, he was slightly phobic of ice in any form. If it was outside on the streets, it meant the weather was cold, and therefor he'd probably wind up with the flue, a cold, a fever, pneumonia or bronchitis. If ice was in the house, it was either because he was being forced to eat it, suck on it, or it was being thrown in a tub to break an exceptionally high fever.

In other words, ice and Xaxis were not friends.

"If that's all right," the bird suddenly added, not wanting to offend Jer'rain's hospitality. The girl was special to Savius, therefor that made her positive in Xaxis' opinion. She wasn't just some human - she was Savius' people.

"Ice and I have a love-hate relationship, so I avoid it whenever possible."

"No ice." Savius contributed, as if Jer'ain might have missed Xaxis's words. And maybe she had, while the Raven spoke, she's stared at him, her expression bemused and almost awed. It was her brother's voice that jolted her out of that and sent her scurrying to the kitchen.

With that taken care of, Savius turned his attention to the matter at hand, that was, getting himself cleaned up and his friend properly groomed. He walked down the stark hallway, and turned into his bedroom. His room wasn't nearly so dull as the living room had been.

On one wall, his gun hung, on the other, his old wooden swords, crossed and mounted now that the time for such play had passed. Next to that, two hooks, but nothing hanging on them. His bed was a simple affair, blue sheets, gray pillows. And it was on that bed that Xaxis was finally deposited gently. "'s not much. Just a place to sleep."

Even as he spoke Savius turned away from the Raven, removing his sword and hanging it from the hooks on the wall. His shirt came next, thrown unselfconciously on the floor. Because he was home and the sticky, stained item in question had spent enough time against his skin. His flesh showed new bruises. He hadn't escaped the fight completely uninjured.
