The Hero and the Crown and The Blue Sword, both written by Robin McKinely.
Yes, they're fantasy, but they definitely have a feminist agenda. (Crown more so than Blue Sword.)

Rebel Girl i haven't really read any riot grrrl/feminist-related books. actually, i haven't been reading much of anything lately. but i'll try those books and maybe come up with some suggestions of my own. out of the books i read, the best ones are the v****a monologues, art and feminism, and lesbian art in america. the other one's are kinda a boring read. the feminine mystique is sooooo dated!! it's a must read because it was one of the first feminst books made in the 70's civil rights battles. but it was still made in the 70's and parts of it are kinda bogus. it's interesting though.

I've flipped through a lot of "Backlash" by Susan Faludi, found that at some thrift store in nice hardback whee Also I love Margaret Atwood, I've read "The Handmaid's Tale" and "The Edible Woman", both rock. "The Last Time I Wore A Dress" by Daphne Scholinski I read for some sociology class, probably soc of gender. Though it's sort of more about gender issues and genderqueerness than feminism per se, it's really good.
Also, if you can find the play "Lot's Daughters" by Rebecca Basham, it's really good and deals with lesbian issues, along with a whole lot of other issues! I had the pleasure of working on it at my college, all the way to winning at the American College Theatre Festival in DC! Some awesome performances there, you guys probably won't get to see it with the cast I worked with, but really good story anyways.

The Bell Jar, by Sylvia Plath.
Read The v****a Monologues, can't wait to see it performed. Started The Feminine Mystique but I got kind of bored.
I read c**t by Inga Muscio a while ago. Kind of over the top, but it really stirs you up.

"Reading Lolita in Tehran" is not a riot girl kind of book, but it is about the struggle of women's rights in Iran.

well this isn't a favorite but i hate it so much and it's a book. Madame Bovary. I hate it. I can't believe how Flaubert portrayed the exact opposite of a real female human being.

shizznazzled super_nerd42 "Reading Lolita in Tehran" is not a riot girl kind of book, but it is about the struggle of women''s rights in Iran. wow that sounds interesting.. i''m gonna look it up. It is a very interesting story that analyzes how women are potrayed in classic literature and then compares it to the Conservative Islamic Revolution in Iran. Definetly a good read.
