A while ago, I spent over $9 at the college library in overdue fines. Granted, the college library is more expensive than the public library, but that's still way too much to spend on something that I only get to borrow. I know I should just return them on time, but you know how life can get.
Are library fines as much of a problem for you, my fellow readers, as they are for me?

They're not really a problem for me, I have my library card and I always renew them before they are overdue.

I tend not to have problems with my libraries because either I return them on time or the librarians can't be bothered to give me a fine, 3nodding , or I don't borrow books from them. whee

Heh. The librarians know me and my family by sight, and we often have 50 cents or a dollar on our cards. At the moment, however, I have like $50 worth of expenses, because I lost a CD of violin solos, part of two CD set, as well as a book of ingenious musical comics. My mom says I can't check things other than novels out anymore, and I don't have the money to pay for them. sad

My family's library fines sort of gather up over time. Fifty cents here, a dollar there, two dollars over there, and BAM! We owe twenty dollars.

I don't really go to the library very often. I stock up at Titlewave, an awesome used book store here, every couple of months.

The only time that library fines have ever been a problem for me was when my local library lost the interlibrary loan books that I returned a week and a half before they were due and I got hit with fines from both libraries.
They found the books in a pile of stuff to go in the booksale the next month. Never even appologized for the mistake.
I don't go there much any more because it happened more than once. stressed

Stuff like that's happened to me before too; now we turn in our books over the counter. That way we know it's checked in.

Oh, the reason I got so mad about it was the fact that I DID return the books over the counter. They just stuck them in the wrong place and when the library that they came from requested the fine through them they decided that if the other library didn't have it I must not have returned it no matter what the check-in records said. stressed
Now that I work in my college's library I make sure that I put things where they belong right away so that stuff like that doesn't happen to other students. Since college fines are significantly higher than those of public libraries.

Ouch. I'm sorry! And I'm glad you're a librarian now. Making a difference! xd

I racked up so many fines at my old library that I don't check books out anymore. It, economically speaking wasn't worth it. So, unless I'm doing some crazy research project and I need a thousand books on rare subjects I either buy them at a used bookstore or sit in the library and have my way with the book there.
But seeing as I am such a book addict I much much prefer to have the book in my own possesion. My house reflects this ( I was going to say my book cases, but my book piles don't stop there heh heh).

I usually go every Monday or renew online, but sometimes I forget.
The most I ever paid I think was six dollars at a public library. That time we moved and it was misplaced.
