Does it really work? Because I am just actually getting started into Wicca, I have researched on it for about a year now and I finally got some candles to start off with because apparently it's the best thing to start from. Does it actually work if you concentrate your best and do it right? If it does, what is the best way to put out the flame? I have heard that if you blow it out it can be an insult to gods and that if you do blow it out the spell that you are trying to do won't work fully...that you can use your fingers to put it out or a "snuffer", i'm not too sure what that is either but people say to use that to put out the flame. biggrin

Okay, I don't know what you mean by candle spells, because almost every single spell has candles in them. It's not an insult to the god or goddess if you blow out the candle, just do it after your spell. You can blow it out, or use your fingers, what ever. I've never heard of rules or guidelines for the extinguishing of a candle! xp And don't worry, spells will work if the goddess or god allows it and if you put your energy into everything you send out. If it doesn't work it wasn't meant to work.

It's where you write a spell on a piece of paper, memorize the spell and say it over and over and concentrate on it and then you burn the paper with the flame of the candle. And each candle has to have a certain color for the spell that you want to go. Such as a love spell, must be red or pink, a white candle can substitute for any other color. A green candle is for wealth and goodness, things like that. Basically...

yikes wiccan newbies...
um, yeah... discard that last comment...
In doing candle spells, always use a fresh candle never use a candle that has already been used.
basic color meanings. need a different meaning pm me i'll give you an exact color.
Red – Strength, health, energy, power, the will, attracting power, lust, conquer fears, moon blood, courage, survival, sex, passion.
Pink – love, friendship, harmony, affection, tenderness, spiritual love, caring, loving yourself, healing emotions, good will.
Yellow – intellect, concentration, creativity, inspiration, thinking, memory, learning, communication, new beginnings, logic, and the mind in general.
Orange – quick changes, luck, attracting positive energy, energy building, fun, and energy for goals. The color Orange is a combination of Yellow and Red, therefore both energies are present with less intensity.
Green – money, business, fertility, good fortune, growth, abundance, healing, and success. Green has both Male and Female energies so it is a very balanced color. It is associated with Venus and Mercury.
Blue – truth, peace, protection, calm, creativity, soothing, cooling, bliss, spiritual well being, healing, and truth. Blue has a female energy to it, and is associated with the moon, Venus, Saturn, and Jupiter.
Purple – the spirit, spirituality, luck, protection, wisdom, understanding life’s mysteries, expansion, knowledge, reaching your higher self and highest potentials.
Brown – earth, stability, solid foundations, study, healing the earth, material needs. It is also associated with the hearth and home.
Black – reversing, protection, banishing, binding, absorbing, endings, justice, and endings.
White – spirituality, purity, wholeness, the goddess, balance, protection, healing, raising vibrations. White is also associated with the Moon and female energy. The color white is a combination of all colors, therefore it be used for any purpose.
Dressing the candle makes the spell more powerful and creates a psychic link.
Candle Dressings: Dragon's Blood oil Rose oil Lavender Oil Frankincense oil Olive oil "mint" oils I use a blend of peppermint and peach oils for just about everything.
All oils should be blessed and consecrated before using them.
Dragon's Blood is a very powerful oil and is to be used wisely.
Also, the "mint" oils, wintergreen, spearmint, et al, are irritants to the skin. Use sparingly.
You can also use a symbol/sigil/whatever
It is important that any spell work be done with perfect love and in perfect trust. Under NO circumstance should you EVER take away another person's will to act on their own. And NEVER act with malicious intent.

Hmm, in my experiance I've almost never blown out a candle. It's not so much that it's an insult agains the god/dess but rude to the elements. By blowing a candle out your using one element (wind/air) to destroy another element (fire). It's just common courtesy not to do it, but your spell should still work if you blow it out. In my beginings I would blow my candles out as I didn't have a candle snuffer and I was too much of a wuss to use my fingers, lol. A candle snuffer is probably your best bet though. They're really easy to get too. Just go to any old candle store. I think Hallmark stores sell them too. They're just a little metal dome (like a bell without the thing in the middle) attached to a long rod. You put it over the flame an it blocks air from getting to the flame, putting it out. And one more tidbit, if you're going to work with candles DON'T use those liottle zippo lighters. I ended up with many burnt fingers in the beggining from using them. Use matches or a long grill lighter. I use te grill lighter myself ^-^. I wish you the best of luck in your experiances with candles!
