Shadows were an interesting thing, he decided with a slightly morbid sigh, flat golden hues focused on the dancing shadows that resulted from the flame on his tail lighting his form against the ground. He shifted lightly, brown locks obscuring his view for a moment before he tossed his head to get rid of the problem, skin twitching uncomfortably against the feel of the grass on his belly where he lay. There wasn't much to do, he supposed, besides wait for the sun to come up... he doubted there were any other soquili awake at this hour.

Morning dew glistened beneath under the fading light of the fattening moon. Shadows were present everywhere with the hint of dawn so close at hand. The world was stirring with the chirping of birds as the air held a briskness soon warmed by the sun. Flitting her wings a pure white mare tipped in blue wings, marked with many ornamental touches decended toward the wet grasses below. Stepping lightly the strands of her mane all flowed in a pink river occasionally with locks of blue intertwining. Looking about she smiled and stood there still as a statue listening to things near and far around her.

Red-orange furred ears twitched absently to the sounds of the still night, but the near-silent landing of the mare startled him into attentiveness, golden hues peering curiously out towards the ivory form he could see silouhetted in the ever-waning moonlight. Head tilting to one side curiously, the stallion stood up slowly and shook himself free of the small bits of grass and dirt that clung to his coat, taking a few cautious steps forward.
He was slightly surprised to find that it was a mare- quite a pretty one at that- and did all mares have wings? He shook his head to clear his thoughts again, offering a tentative smile as he took another step forward and dipped his head politely. "Greetings, miss. Might I ask what you're doing out here so late?"

Turning her delicate white profile toward the voice her ears swiveled softly catching tones and hues as they came to her. Many a wild and deadly creature walked this hour with ill intent and misfortune. When she was satisfied things seemed calm she responded with much respect he had approched her. A fiery beast combined and melted into fine shades of red made his appearence very different from what the mare was used to. She stepped forward feeling the grasses sweep past her front legs.
"Tis but the beginning of a new day. Who wouldn't come out to relish such a grand display?" she mused watching him wondering what he himself was up so early in the morning.

His ears twitched as his head tilted slightly to one side, and a small smile adorned his features as he agreed with a curt nod. "I suppose I must agree with you there, it is quite a sight to see." He took note of the fact that she had quite an eloquent way with words, eyeing her curiously as the sky began to gray with the light of the rising sun. Most soquili wouldn't be bothered to be up this early- or late, depending on how you looked at it- just to watch the sunrise.
He blinked again, realizing after a moment that he had lapsed into silence, and offered a sheepish grin to the winged mare as he dipped his head in apology. "Forgive my rudeness, miss, my name is Nanaki- although some people prefer to call me Red. May I ask your name?"

She noted to herself in comparison that this particular male was so more open and willing to communicate than the first particular soquili she had met. Axel had been quite cold and unreponsive but yet she still tried her best at being polite and rejoiced for meeting another soul. Being new to this land felt rather strange as her feet had decended upon the foreign beaches and emerald grasses waving about in the wind.
She smiled with a fair gaze of her blue orbs that he queried for her namesake which she was delighted to return knowing he had given his first. "I am known as Star Catcher. It is a pleasure to meet you Nanaki." she said with a soft chime that captured her voice like a bell. "This land has wonderous sights and yet only I've met but two Soquili here. So many smells I've sensed though repeating there are hundreds of others possibly."

"Likewise, miss Star Catcher." He paused for a moment, considering her words, then offered another small grin. "Would you mind if I called you Star? I'm afraid I have a bad habit of mixing up long names." He had the grace to look sheepish, although the grin stayed in place upon his features.
"I am somewhat new here myself, I've only met one other soquili- a stallion like myself, named Cualtzin." He shifted his weight a bit uneasily again, deciding not to venture into that subject. He wasn't quite sure what to make of his new friend, but it was probably nothing that she wanted to hear. "It is a relief to hear I'm not the only one."

She smiled in a muse at his polite words. There were hundreds that roamed this land and yet hardly ever seen. She had been meaning to find a place to dwell, a possible niche if it would accept her. Perhaps a herd with an open mind and plenty of conversation. Though sometimes shy in large gatherings the blue touched winged mare loved simple attention. It made her feel quite special and wanted around others.
"Yes I do not mind. In turn I shall call you Red as you have mentioned before." she mused with a gentle lyrical smile that formed on her delicate muzzle.
She watched him with a tilt of her head wondering why he was acting a bit strange. Though meeting a newcomer in a strange place was indeed something that needed getting used to in any case. "Perhaps" she began with a soft tone, "I could use some company if you could. Maybe explore this region together"? It felt strange asking a complete stanger, but who else was there to ask such a thing. He seemed very polite and non-aggressive. She'd just go with her instincts if anything seemed amiss, or rather out of place.

Her gentle smile seemed contagious as he felt compelled to return it, golden hues softening slightly at the quiet timidity of her voice. It was refreshing to find a place that thrived on peace, not battle and bloodshed like the places he remembered growing up in. He felt slightly out of place with his battle-scarred body, finding no use for the skills he had placed so much importance on learning as he grew.
He brightened visibly at her soft inquiry, one furry ear twitching lightly to make sure he hadn't misheard her. A spark of something he hadn't felt in a long time ignited in his battered heart- happiness? He supposed he hadn't felt anything like this since he'd learned the truth about his father... and that had been a strange mix of grief, awe, guilt, and pride. His small smile grew larger as he dipped his head in a gesture of grattitude, nodding his ascent to her question. "I would love that, miss Star, if you would be able to tolerate my company. I've been told my silence can be quite irritating at times," he joked lightly, remembering a time when that strange girl Yuffie had exploded on him for that reason.

She chuckled to herself with grace keeping it light and airy in his presence. "Nonsense" she replied with a toss of her long silken mane- a rain of river colored in pink with blue. I'd never turn away company if they are willing to accept my own as well. As long as one is not intentionally cruel than I shall relish their companionship."
Her wings shuffled with a small wispy noise as hooves danced along in her walk.
"Silence is but a beautiful guise that most anyone can appreciate. Its those with short attention spans that anger at the little bout of no conversation."

"You have quite an eloquent way with words, miss Star," he commented with a small, but genuine smile. "It seems like it could be poetry." He paused at her latter comment, letting a soft laugh rattle his lungs as he shook his head at the thought. "I suppose you are right, although I used to travel with a rather melancholy group that radiated angst and grief- silence wouldn't have been so companionable then, so I can understand my previous companions' aversion to it. I am, however, glad that you do not have a problem with it."

She smiled with a soft expression- always in a dream yet in flesh and blood. Quietly she unfurled her wings then let them return upon her back once more in a single wisp of air as they settled gently in place once more. She was accustomed to doing this occasionaly to keep them from getting stiff. As silly as it sounded a winged could get rather numb wings if they stood in one place w ay too long, Star Catcher rested in no exception of that well known fact.
"Would it be a bother to you if we walked a bit? My wings are rather fussy when they rest too long in one place." she quiered with a smile that highlighted her dazzling blue eyes.
She pondered his words as sands flow within the hourglass of time, "Silence sometimes is a lesson in one's life. If one doesn't listen and constantly talks, well then will they ever learn what is being told?" pausing her head turned toward him as the blue shimmering silk rolled over her shoulder, "I am a wonderful listener if you need to talk Red, I am here to listen. However if you wish to take the place of listener I shall do my best to create converstaion for you."
It was quite true that Star desired to know things, to learn about her surroundings, but if the other didn't want to reveil anything she was perfectly fine with it as well. It simply was just nice to have a companion in this wide stretch that flowed on forever around her. It made the day seem more postive and full of more things to learn and experience.

"Not at all. I can certainly understand." He offered her a charming grin of his own, allowing his gaze to linger briefly on said feathery appendages. He wondered what it would be like to fly, to have wings as she did... would it be like having another pair of legs? He shook his head to cease the foolish thought process, an exasperated sigh heaved internally at his ponderings. "Lead the way, miss Star," he said with a gentle smile, tilting his head one way slightly so his auburn forelocks fell away from his eyes.
He eyed her curiously as they walked, pausing briefly at the offer and admission as grattitude and a small bit of something akin to admiration swelled in his heart, the gentle smile brightening into something that reflected his pleasure at hearing her kind words. It certainly wasn't often that someone offered close companionship to him, being from where he was- but the offer to listen and not judge... it was more than he'd ever expected or hoped for, especially when he didn't know someone particularly well. "You are a very kind soul, miss Star... thank you. I am not used to sharing much about myself, but if there is anything you want to know, I would be more than happy to enlighten you."

Stepping lightly with her glistening hooves she glanced at him with her dreamy eyes. Nothing like the fiery one she'd fisrt met who seemed so unresponsive and secluded. No this was more open and relieved in this meeting. Red was what she sought for converstaion, for even in his quietness he still was quite talkative and so very polite in manners and chivalry.
"Anything your heart desires you may speak of, or choose not to. I do like learning of ones past...though to understand the soul resting behind the pool of sight" she mused with a wink in her soft harmonious voice. "I myself have not a grand past but remember things as a feather dances upon a still layering of water. How I do miss being with the others, but yet am happy that I could come to such a wonderful place filled with lush greens, crystal blue waters, and souls of such warmth as you are beside me now. It makes my arriving here seem correct and filled with some underlying destiny awaiting me not too far off".
She always loved speaking of destiny, that which was written in the stars, lied but an inch beside her own beating heart. Reasons come from one's own path and how it was followed. She laughed in her mind how well it was leading her along with it.
