The silence mocked Joel as he sat among his drunken party guests. A fallen cup full of beer, landing on his head, has awoken him from his drunken slumber. He staggered to his feet, tripping over bodies and a fallen keg. Tramping into his bathroom for a towel, led him to discover his girlfriend pasted out atop his roommate. He kicked his roommate harder then was likely necessary to wake him up. He reached over the two to take a towel, as his roommate screamed in reaction to the kick in the ribs. This scream woke up the two, who upon seeing the figure looming over them, were wide awake in attempts to convince Joel “it wasn’t what it looked like.” Joel ruffle his hair with the towel as the two waited for him to say something. In response Joel tossed the towel at his roommate “It’s your turn to do laundry” and with that left the dorm. It was far brighter outside then Joel would have preferred, but it was a welcomed change to the dismal post-party dorm room. He ambled through cheerful students, cheerful most likely because it was now Saturday. He entered a corner coffee shop to purchase a muffin. It was the perfect solution to the newly single college student with a hang-over. The service was fast and unfriendly, but the coffee was decent and the muffins, as the sign over the door exclaimed, were to die for! No talking was usually needed when ordering, you merely pointed to your desired purchase and got a shake of the head if the were out or a nod if they had it and you handed over you money and left. Simple as that. Today Joel was lucky enough for a nod of the head when pointing to a particularly delicious looking muffin. Reaching in his pockets, however, he found nothing, but a bit of pocket lint. He was then unfortunate enough to invoke an actually speech from the cashier, for at the turning out of his pockets this rather plum women was alerted to the fact Joel had no money. “If you can’t pay for it , I can’t give it to you.” was all she said. Joel gave the woman an apologetic look and turned to leave. In turning, though he was confronted with a lovely young woman holding out a five spot. “Here you can pay me back later, I have Kliewer’s class with you.” It was her wonderful smile and the gnawing in his stomach that allowed him to take this girl’s money. “Thank you” he said taking the money and turning back to the cashier. He handed the woman the money and happily received his muffin. He stepped aside, allowing his savior to make her purchase and then asked if he’d like to sit with her. “I was actually in a bit of a hurry, but maybe tomorrow you can buy me a cup of coffee?” She said with that same wonderful smile. He heartily accepted the chance to meet this women again. Returning to his dorm, he pushed an unsuspecting person off the couch and ate his muffin as his roommate guiltily cleared up the party mess. It was another lazy Saturday and he was uncannily happy about all of it.
Would love to hear a comment or two, thank you :]
