A Seth / Richard Only RP ^_^
-----------------------------------------
Seth had been here for... just a little over three weeks now. He didn't know the exact time or date thanks to crossing the international date line when he had travelled up here, however. The laptop was still set on Australian Eastern Standard Time thanks to him not bothering to set it again since he initially left his home in Melbourne, but the laptop had to be accurate at least within the 24 hour period at least. He had considered calling up the doctor and asking about what the exact time and date was, but those thoughts were quickly banished from his mind when he considered how much of a liar Dr Duvert had been - he would probably try to lie about that too.
"Stupid poncy git." He thought to himself as the image of Dr Duvert came into his mind. He sat up on his bed, pondering whether or not to just try and work out the time by watching the sun... quickly pushing that out of his mind too, as it would be very boring to do.
"Well, not like I have much else to do right now, stupid bastards," He muttered to himself. "Some science experiment this is. As if making people bored is groundbreaking science. Phh..."
Not having much to do was Seth's motivation for going anywhere at the moment. His master plan for escaping was always prominent in his mind, but no matter how hard he thought, he could just not think of anything brilliant... yet. He had been pondering over it for man days now, and the man decided it was time to take a break and to go for a walk. He had been spending the last few days in his Duplex, moping, listening to the MP3 collection he had backed up on his trusty little laptop. But he couldn't do that forever.
He rose to his feet and picked up the sunglasses that he had been given, venturing outside into the heat and humidity. laptop tucked under one arm as always. The ground was still moist from fresh rain, something that seemed to occur quite often out here. But rather than going to the village this time, he decided to turn down the other path, heading off towards the beach.
He reached the bar some time later. He wasn't typically one to go drinking normally, the desire to get roaring drunk off his face had faded when he had grown out of his teenage years. But the place seemed curious and interesting to him, enough to make him venture on over into it. Nobody was nearby... Seth was beginning to get used to that. He could certainly get used to the free alcohol too.
He took a seat nearby the bar and began to scan the area with his eyes attentively, pondering whether or not there was anything worth drinking here.

After his run in with Gaius, Richard was still feeling annoyed after he attatched the last letter to duplex # 75. He had given Gaius ten hand written letters which were probably not going to be placed intelligently, meaning he would have to rewrite them. It was no big deal but Richard hated doing something that he had already done once. It would be easier to print them, but that would be impersonal and the labs could easily "edit" his letters if he used a computer. Richard's handwritting, like the man himself, would be difficult to imitate.
It was in this rather sour mood Richard way his way down to the beach bar with the intent to refill his hip flask. He had seen a couple bottles of scotch behind the bar while he was flitching the wine for Ambrose, and a good single malt sound pretty good right now.
He noticed that a man sat at the bar but paid him no heed. Scotch first, conversation later.

Seth eyed the lineup of liquor with great curiousity. It was almost like he had taken a seat at a liquor store itself, not a bar. He briefly wondered what their lineup of import beers were like until his eyes fell on the harder liquor bottles. He scanned the lineup for a bottle of Johnny Walker Black Label Whiskey, grinning to himself as he discovered it wasn't there. He didn't ponder over for this for very long however, and reached over the counter to grab at a bottle of Jack Daniels, glancing around the area, wondering if it would be alright to just steal off with it. It would be nice to mix with the cache of Coke he had stolen and stuffed into his Duplex's bar fridge afterall.
It was then he noticed the other man. He didn't look changed either... Seth promptly set his stolen bottle back down, acting like he had just picked it up to use it. He didn't exactly want to get into trouble, especially not if this gentleman was the barkeep. He doubted the man would have been very happy with him stealing his stock.
"Oh g'day there," He said with raised eyebrows, genuinely surprised to see him. "I er, didn't see you there. This your bar?"

Richard didn't answer Seth at first. He went striaght to the cabinet below the bar where he had found the wine and grabbed a bottle of 14yr Oban and set it on counter top. His goal secure he cast an appraising glance at Seth before turning to grab a tumbler and some ice.
"Ah, hello." he said to the still human man.
In response to Seth's question. "Its as much mine as yours I suspect." Richard poured himself a double on the rocks, then pulled out his flask, uncapped it with the same hand that he held it with and filled it to the brim.
He shot Seth a wary smile.

Seth breathed a sigh of relief at the man's response and openly grinned at him. Then he picked up the bottle he was originally intending to steal and set it down on the seat beside him.
"Oh you don't own it?" He chuckled. "That's good. Because otherwise, if you did, you might get a bit unhappy at the supplies which are going to go missing. My name is Seth by the way," He would have offered his hand in a friendly handshake, but the other guy seemed preoccupied with replenishing his own alcohol supplies. "So I guess you're stuck here too then, huh?"
He frowned suddenly as he thought about the jovial tone he had just used. He hadn't meant it to sound so casual, but then again he was never one for tact.
"I've been here about three weeks myself." He continued. "But with any luck, I'll be outta here soon enough."

Richard capped his flask and made it disappear back into his jacket. He took a sip of his drink while listening to Seth, nodding at the "stuck here" part. "My name's Richard, please to meet you Seth."
Richard exited the bar and took a seat next to Seth. "Three weeks eh?" Richard considered bringing it up that Seth would probably be given his second injection anytime now but decided that would be rude at the moment. Seth's last statement piqued his curiousity however. "Outta of here? I'm under the impression this is a oneway vacation."

"Ah, Richard." He grinned in a genuinely friendly manner. "A good English name that is. I like it." He nodded. He made a slight amused scoffing noise at the comment about the place being a vacation.
"Yeah, people are supposed to be stuck here forever, stuck here to be turned into some animal freak-of-nature. I was told I'd leave initially, but phh, the stupid poncy doctor who told me that was a liar. Seems he does that to pretty much everybody." He reached over the counter to pick up another bottle of whiskey. "Some of the people I met have resigned themselves to that fate also, quite sad really if you ask me. There was this bloke with a cane, Sid, and this younger kid, Marshall. They didn't seem that interested or motivated in fighting against the idiots keeping us here either." He shook his head sadly. "Not me though, I'm not gonna just lay down and accept that fate. No bloody way. It'd be a cold day in hell before I am gonna allow some b*****d scientists to tinker around with my DNA." His brow furrowed in a deep determined scowl.
"I'm planning on escaping, somehow." He stated as he rose to his feet to move behind the bar, retrieving a glass from under the counter. He tossed some ice cubes into the bottom and uncapped his bottle of whiskey, filling it up halfway. "Haven't really worked out the details yet, but my ultimate goal is to get off the same way I got on - commandeering that black helicopter and overpowering the guy who flies it. Don't really know how I'm gonna do that, but..." He shrugged.
"You want in on it? The more the merrier afterall. One of the changed islanders I met, she was was turning furry and stuff, seemed interested in the idea. I guess the opinion on that subject is mixed here..."

Richard could scarcly believe what he was hearing. The man was utter idiot! Openly talking about escape in an area that where there were certianly cameras and bugs! The man was asking Moreau to stomp him like a bug.
Grisly images of what happened to "Heroes," and their families in the Congo flashed through Richard's mind. This was no game this man aimed to play and he was playing it very poorly. If he some how convinced so younger, impressional people on the island to help him, it would end in disaster.
Richard kept his body completely still, like a snake about to strike. He face wore a carefully crafted expression of curiousity and interest. "Thats an interesting idea..." He waited for Seth to return to his seat.

Seth sat back down again, picking up the glass, swishing the contents around a bit before downing the entire contents of the glass in one hit.
"Interesting perhaps," He coughed slightly. "But without details and proper planning, any idea is bunk really. And that's pretty much all I can think of for now." He shrugged. "Of course, the details of it aren't going to be so publicly broadcasted... success is a better outcome than being sprung and tortured."
"So what lie did the higher ups feed you to get you to come here?"

When Seth admitted that his idea was hot air, Richard reconsidered his plan to slam his head into the countertop to have man to man chat. The hand that had been slowly moving behind Seth's neck lowered. There were subtler aways of dealing with him.
"Yes there are lots of variables to consider for such an attempt. The chips in our head's that can knock us out instantantly for example. The cameras that are recording this conversation. The guards with guns, claws and teeth are no match for guns. The fact that James is about seven feet tall. And thats just a few." Richard could run more senarios if he needed to. He wasn't sure if this man knew about the chips.

The balding man stared forward, going quiet. It wasn't because of the alcohol rush entering his bloodstream either, Richard's statements had pretty much killed his determination dead flat for the time being.
"Indeed... There's a lot against us, that's for sure, those horrid controlling chips especially. Mine hasn't been used yet, but... damn." Seth muttered most of what he was saying, annoyed. "It seems they want us to be quiet, do what we're told and 'live happily ever after'." His fingers idly flicked at the side of his empty glass and his expression darkened, his tone thick and heavy with sarcasm. "Like hell I'm going to do that. How can anybody just accept that and resign themselves to such an end?"
"I'm sure you've probably heard that already though from other people," He sighed heavily, sitting upright once again, turning his attention back to the other man. "Sorry if I am just repeating the statement of some other poor person stuck here..."

Richard sipped his scotch, satisfied that Seth wasn't going to do anything stupid. He thought for a moment and then spoke. "Sometimes you have to accept what you cannot change, save your strength for the things you can. The trick is knowing the difference and not exhaust yourself in a battle you cannot win. I've seen the bodies of martyers and heroes. While they might have died for a cause, all they become is a statistic."
Richard looked old as he spoke, people's faces from both his own travels and the characters he met during the civil rights movement dancing through his mind.

"Hmph." was Seth's initial response to Richard's comment. He couldn't think of anything intelligent to comment back with at that moment. And besides, he had to admit that the man was right.
"You've accepted it already then, I'm guessing?" He rubbed the back of his head. "You're going to just let them do whatever the hell they want to you without a peep of argument?"
"Perhaps you are right, perhaps it is a battle that can't be won." He said after another few moments, picking up the bottle of whiskey to top up his glass once more. "No security set up is completely flawless however, I learned that one from my Network Admin job. No matter how many protective protocols you implement in place, there's no such thing as a flawless security setup. Not one is perfect - and once one weakness is found and exploited, others are sure to follow soon after. Once you've got your foot in the door, if you know what you're doing, you can make the whole network come crashing down like a ton of bricks."
His finger idly traced the rim of his whiskey glass as he thought. "Okay, perhaps there is a twenty-foot-high wire electric fence around the perimeter of the Feral Labs building. Perhaps the helicopter pilot-guy is seven feet tall and can knock us into oblivion. There has to be some flaw somebody can exploit somewhere along the line. I don't exactly want to die and become a statistic, but I don't want to die here at all to be honest. Do you? Does anyone?"

For Richard, this entire conversation had become something of a performance. Let the labs think he was a defeated old man. The situation was still far from crystal clear. There were so many things that he needed to know. There was a crack in this pleasent prison, of that he was certian, but it was going to take time to find it and then patience to exploit it.
For now all Richard could do was learn all he could about the island and be wait for... something. The death of girl, had been a mistake on the labs part. There were holes in their control.
He reflected on all this as Seth's babble spiraled downwards. He doodled on his coaster.
At the mention of death he smiled cyptically at Seth. "We all have to die some where Seth, this is as pretty of a place as any." Sweeping his hand over the oceanview. "You have to keep your view of scenary realistic, with out denial or fantasy clouding the view. If you can't see a boat, you'll never board it." Richard waited to see if Seth got what what he was trying to say.

"Heh..." Seth listened to Richard's statement, his attention turning towards the ocean view that the man had motioned to. He was quiet for several moments as he reflected on this, slowly nodding.
"Ah yes. Always a good idea to watch the horizon for boats." He mused, picking up his whiskey once more. "Because one day, some giant cruise-liner will just crop up out of nowhere."
"Hey Richard. Do you own one of these?" He patted the lid of his laptop, which had remained folded up and on the table beside him, ignored the entire time he had been here - a rarity for him. "Because you should ask the people on the phone for one if you haven't already. They're really nifty devices. Whether it be for data storage or whatever, you should get one if you can. Might be an idea to ask for some disks too. Useful data storage devices they are."
He gave the other man an amused grin. "Just make sure that they don't give you an iBook. Because those things are useless pieces of crap."
