I just wanted to address something which has had me stumped. If this has already been mentioned before, please ignore this post! We're all aware of the second film right? I gathered by initiative at first that the second film would handle Mello and Near, but i've seen the trailer for the film and they were no where to be seen. Also, since then i've been told they wouldnt feature in it. However, i checked up on www.imdb.com and they have two japanese actresses down to play M and N.
Does anyone know about this? It left me just a little confused!

Well first of all imdb.com is not to be trusted at all ^^ it's only reliable when the movie has already premiered. And to clear things up a bit for you Mello and Near will not be in the 2nd movie no matter what ^^ although in the 2nd movie there is some reference to Mello and Near such as *Spoiler* << it might not actually be a spoiler but just in case: 3nodding
L is seen wearing Near's mask and Misa tell him to take it off (Near reference). And also L is eating chocolate (Mello reference). I've also noticed that Takada (not confirmed) is in it...I don't really know what type of role she'll play though since she becomes a main character in the manga in the Near/Mello arc.

It really does depress me that Near won't be in the movies. I suppose I can live with it though ^_^ *still has Pandaeyes L*

I haven't watched the first film, but was able to see the trailer for the second one... It finally has a title: The Last Name... I think it would only feature the second half of the first arc... if you get what I mean.... ^^;

I'm glad that Mello and Near won't be in the films.
For one thing, I just don't see those two working well in movie-form.

what? thats dumb, near and mello are important charaters in the story. what are they going to do, not let *spoiler* L die? it really won't work well with their fans.

Here's a Spoiler for you: (white) In the second movie, I think I read in a review elsewhere that both Light and L died in the end. ^_^
