Game Name: Final Fantasy XII Publisher: Square Enix Developer: Square Enix Release: Fall 2006 System: Playstation 2 Genre: RPG Players: 1 Rating: T for Teen No game series has ever quite created the amount of fandom that Final Fantasy has. Maybe that's a good thing, perhaps it's a bad thing, but no one can argue that the series has certainly had a major impact on gaming since it's birth in 1987 on the Nintendo Entertainment System. Now, in October of 2006, nearly 20 years after the series first launched, Final Fantasy XII will launch on Sony's PS2, being the last Final Fantasy for this generation. I haven't been so excited for the release of a Final Fantasy game since IX. From what I've read and seen of the game, it looks incredible. The anticipation I feel for the release of this game is ridiculous. I've already pre-ordered a collector's edition copy of the game. I will be devoting a good deal of my life to this game once it's released. From what I've heard, the game takes a good 80 hours to complete, up to 200 hours if you feel like completing everything. It certainly seems epic. Is there anyone else quite as excited as I am? sweatdrop Topics:

I'm definantly going to pick this up. Just hope it's not like X-2, since that game was really iffy.

I dunno, those female only rabbit things look pretty stupid. I've never been excited for a release of an FF game, since I only liked the ones before 9.

What? No other game series? True FF7 is popular, but some game series have gotten a rediculous warped amount of attention. GTA for instance. If we're talking about ancient fandoms I think mario in it's many shapes and forms holds the chalice.
FF12 looks kind of annoying. Like FF XI minus the online. But I'm a bad exmple of anyone excited for an FF game, since I kind of despise the franchise.

All you Final Fantasy nay-sayers suck. razz Naw, it's cool if you don't like the game. To each their own.
Now, I picked up my copy today, and the game is ******** fantastic so far. Anyone a fan of Final Fantasy Tactics? What about Final Fantasy Tactics Advance? ... didn't think so. sweatdrop
Okay, while many people didn't like FFTA, it doesn't change the fact that it had a beautiful world and awesome characters.
FFXII takes place in a world called Ivalice, and it's similar to that of FFTA, only in full 3-D, and minus the childish story-book thing. Ivalice is the real deal in this game, and it's freakin' awesome.
I've been playing for a few hours now, and I'm already in love with the game. The main city is gorgeous. I've spent about 20 minutes of game time just wandering around looking at the scenery. Seriously. There are Bangaa and Moogles walking around, people conversing ... it's just so bloody detailed.
The voice acting in this game is pretty excellent, as well. It does sort of piss me off that they didn't leave you the option of keeping the original Japanese laguage track, but I can deal.
The battle system is very different from other Final Fantasy games. You input your actions before combat, and then let it pan out. You can still move your character around and change your battle actions whenever, so don't worry if the idea seems silly. I thought it was going to be terrible at first, I thought it would me much less engaging. But I was certainly wrong. The way the new system has been designed makes battles feel much more exciting. No longer do you have to stop and select 'attack' thousands of times throughout the game. While I do like a good turn-based RPG, I'm digging the new battle system. cool
So, that's it for now. I will continue to post updates about what's awesome and what qualms I may encounter. I won't post any spoilers, though. Even if you're not a fan of the Final Fantasy games, give this one a try. You may not like it, but you never know until you try it.

Although I've played the game a lot, and it's really good. Just with the license system, all the characters are not really different from one another. Since everyone can be really good at White Magic or Black Magic.
Also, the espers can only be used by one person. It's really annoying, trying to pick someone who will use that one esper the rest of the game, although it brings that strategy of thinking who will benifit from it more.
It's a really great game, and I hope the game gets even better as I keep playing it.
