Has anyone noticed that all of the pretty "girl-esque" looking guys in anime are either gay or single. Is it just the passing fad, or is there some sort of reason? Is it really that hard to just throw in a girl who isn't completely mary-sue-esque? It has interested me. If you can name one pretty guy that is in a worthy relationship, please do. Of course, there are different opinions on pretty therefor I will use a couple of examples.

Think girl pretty, like:

Haku (Naruto)
Sai (Haruko no Go)

The worthy relationship will equal something similar to Naruto x Hinata. Not in personality, but the fact that there are scattered hints. The story is not focused on the relationship and the girl and guy are equal.

I'm am just here to ask if anyone has noticed this. If you know of a "pretty" guy, who is in a relationship then please speak up.

Thank you for your time. <3

I think it depends on your definition of "pretty boy". Because I tend to think half the world of anime/games is full of pretty boys but yours seems to narrow down to long haired, delicate looking boys.

Vincent Valentine, from Final Fantasy 7, had that sort of relationship with Lu (can't spell her whole name). Cloud Strife, from the same game, had Tifa and Aeirth. Sora from Kingdom Hearts has Kairi. Yuki from Fruits Baskets. There are heavy hints between him and Tohru (the main female). Yohji from Weiss Kruez had that girl... whatever her name was. I consider all those guys pretty even if they're not delicate looking.

Also a lot of times the pretty boy character doubles as the aloof character, the hard to approach character. Or he might be interested in something else completely and not care about girls or guys. I think a lot of people see a pretty boy and start looking for someone to slash him with too, like Duo or Kurama.

hm... now that you mention it
its true
not saying LadyNox
doesn't have good points but
there are hints not mention
I hope that isn't true for
IRL
though

That does make sence. (I am going by my freinds veiw of a "pretty-boy)
Those slashing fangirls sometimes make charecters look really bad. It begins to piss me off. /:

(Not that all slash is completly screwed, I am quite guilty aswell.)

I do not mean slashes though, I mean in the acctuall animes. I thought about Vincecnt, but decided he wasn't what my freind would call "Pretty."

Well, see, it has to be like that to avoid the raging fangirls from hating the female characters even more.
See, if the pretty straight boys were taken and in a relationship, the female fans might totally ignore the female characters. And that would not be good.

(Notice I said the female fans, not male and female. I'm not sure if guys are like this.)

Wowie, seriously?

Since pretty-boi-ness has become popular with girls, all the prettyboys I've seen are either straight, or in a gheyish position but still has attraction to girls, so the author can scream "HEY! GUESS WHAT? Even though we shove him into several vague and hinting homoerotic situations and give him ambigious male friends, don't despair! He's still got something for girls, really! It's not like we're going to actually put him and that ambigious, suspicious male friend together!" *cough CLAMP*

XD It makes me mad, in a way.

Animes don't really do it often either. Unless you mean BL animes. Most of the time there does seem to be something suggestive, yes. But you've gotta remember that a lot of it the is interpretation of the fans. The writer isn't always necessarily thinking "oh, I'm going to make that pretty boy really hinty and gay-ish". His or her intentions might be completely different.

And like I said, it all has to do with how your define pretty. We differ in definitions, so it effects our consideration of this topic.

I'll never understand hating a female character simply because they're female. Or the total annihilation of their personality in fanfiction.

Anyways, in slash or cannon relationships, the pretty guy quite often takes on the "girly" or "submissive" role, which is inherently unequal to my mind. Hell, the fact that they're girly is quite often mentioned. It's really wierd.

Anyways, I'm all for boyxgirl relationships where the two are equal. We need more of that in fictional media. Way more. And guyxguy relationships in manga need more equality too, although that may have to do with cultural expectations. For all I know, that may be normal, although I doubt it.

Aerine Lillet Clamp tends to piss me off aswell by doing that. D'=

LadyNox I understand that, but they are usually either gay or single. (I know tihs is difficult to do without a deffinition of "pretty", I'm sorry for that.) I have never seen the "Delicate" looking guy with an exceptably equal girl.

Ace of Shadows...I love you. <3 I myself am not to fond of the seme/uke relationships, in both hetro and homo pairings. I like it when they two share the same dominance. Besides, most of the times the "ukes" are so.... girl-esque, they should just be girls.

without even reading the first post

this is an answer to the title...

YES! And god do i hate it! I wish i was Shuichi sometimes! He's so lucky!

with reading the first post...i haven't really seen any good relationships in my eyes...i mean like...
i guess this is a good relationship
kagomexinuyasha
or sangoxmiroku, but those are kinda easy to figure out.

But yea...i'm confused now...

We probably all know that the majority of them are.^_^

I recently have seen this game my friend owns, with really beautiful 'Final Fantasy' kind of graphics(Think the Advent children movie if you haven't seen the game yet.) and...there is actually this one main character, for example, whom you can tell STRAIGHT OFF that he is gay! He is soo adorable though!^_^

But, with all honesty, when gay guys in animes or games have 'wisps'(If you know what I mean...), I personally perfer them when they talk in Japanese instead of English. Because, when you hear too much of that voice in a series...well, I at least feel bored and tired of hearing it. ^_^U

A simple answer to your question? Yes. Yes, they are gay. And, if they are not gay now, they will be gay within five years. You might not know it. They might not tell you, but it happens. Sorry... emotion_sweatdrop
