Young dear boy. Name: Keita (Re'Shel Keita) Gender: Male Age: Growing baby Height: Baby! Weight: Chubby Eye Color: Dark green Hair Color: Golden brown Other Features: Horn buds for an eventual set of antlers, deer ears and tail Occupation: Baby. Personality: Warm, cheerful, playful, and extremely charming. Keita is known for making friends quickly and working hard to make other people smile. He's a Sunny Smile Boy- always looking on the bright side of things, and reaching out for a hug. He has a few quiet, introspective moments...but not much is seen of those, so far. Likes: Warm, sunny naps, butterflies, Aureli, kitties, ANY kind of animal, yummy food, playing outside. Sunrise! Dislikes: Night time, long days, no naps. Insect bites. People who hurt girls, or anyone else who should be protected. (this covers most everyone he knows *snort). Bad dreams.

Full moon. Aureli is Keita's twin; her guardian is Orasteele. She, of course, lives in the same house/room as Keita and they are extremely close. Though Aureli seems to be more of a night bird than her sunny baby brother, the times that they meet in between their opposite sleep schedules is usually very peaceful.

Everybody.Keita hasn't been to the HQ in a long time; because of this, he's grown distant from all of his Legend friends. Those he remembers most clearly are: Guinnie: Keita luffs Guinnie! She will probably always be his favorite, besides Aureli. Prana: Prana was soft, and had kind eyes. She also felt a little familiar to Keita- maybe it's the bear influence? Waya: Keita doesn't like Waya very much. Waya doesn't understand that. Keita doesn't like the fact that he hurt the boy with his constant suspicion, but he can't trust Waya either- no wise stag trusts a wolf around his herd.

 What is this?
These are items that Keita finds precious, and would be devastated to lose.Staff: Perhaps this item will have a name someday, but for the time being all that is known about this staff is that it has always been with Keita, and he gets very upset if it is not in his room when he is attempting to go to sleep. His dreams have hinted that the old man who raised the twins gave it to him and perhaps even carved it himself, but so far he's the only one who knows that. Pendant: Like his twin, Keita wears a wooden leaf pendant on a leather thong around his neck. Like the staff, its origins are unknown, but baby Keita knows very well that it was once given to him as a baby by the old man.

Medicine Man.Quote: This story, I know, is true. Many years ago a quiet woodsman lived alone on the edge of a forest that he loved most dearly. He loved the forest more than he could love any woman, for the forest was richer and full of life than any woman could ever be in his eyes. He spent all of his days rambling through the woods, protecting this sacred place, and caring for injured animals he happened to run across. He was a good and honorable man, always giving more than he would take, and he lived in harmony with the world. Even so, he was still a man, and he found himself lonely away from the nearby villages. He tried again and again to find a wife or companion, but no one loved the forest enough to join him in his seclusion. Sad, the man sat in the moonlight and wished, in the deepest, quietest part of his soul, that he weren't so alone. Now, the great Tree Spirit that lived in the center of the forest had long since been watching this man. She knew that he loved her and her children dearly, and that it was his faithful devotion to them that kept him so lonely. On a happy whim, she smiled, and decided to grant his wish. "My children," she called through the forest, her rich voice echoing like a bell, "I have found this to be a good and honorable man. I do not wish him to be lonely- help me create for him a child." From all corners of the forest came a brilliant array of creatures, each bearing a gift for the child. Rabbit brought swiftness, Raccoon brought generosity; from the Fish came joy, and from the Birds the gift of song. The turtles brought sweet patience, trailing behind the Snake who brought cunning- all of the animals were eager to please the man who had defended them so well. Last of all came Deer, moving slowly because she was heavily pregnant. Butterfly rode on her delicate ear, keeping her company on the long trek; she looked around at the animals assembled there and nodded her head. "The woodsman set my broken leg last spring, so that I was able to run again," she said clearly, and all of the animals stopped to listen. "I will give to him the twins that I carry, so that he may have twice the joy." The Tree Spirit smiled sweetly and stroked her soft fur. "That is an honorable gift, and one filled with love," she said softly. Butterfly lifted himself from Deer's head and circled the clearing; when he came back down he carried light in his wings. "I will give them the gift of light- the warmth of the Sun and the cool serenity of the Moon, so that they might always see the light in the hearts of others," he said joyously, and the Tree Spirit laughed. "My children, they will truly be!" she sang, and gathered her companions close. "Now! We must give to him our gift." * * * * * The woodsman was out in the forest, enjoying the warmth of the summer sun, when he heard the strangest sounds coming from the brush. He stopped, tilting his head in confusion- he knew every sound the forest made, and that wasn't one of them. Carefully, he parted the branches around him, and came face to face with a mother deer and...two human babies?! He drew in a sharp breath, and the mother looked up at him- but her eyes were gentle and she didn't seem startled at all. He stepped forward as he slowly pulled herself to her feet, but he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see who had invaded his forest as the mother deer reached out to nuzzle his hand. He knew instantly that this had to be the Spirit he had felt watching him. She was beautiful, everything he loved about the forest made real- she smiled at him, and gestured to the babies. "You will never again be alone," she whispered. "There is only one catch...when they are old enough, they will return to me for a month out of the year. Fear not, for they will always be your loving children." And then she was gone, as if she had never been. * * * * * The woodsman took the children home, followed faithfully by the mother deer, and raised them as his own. He named the boy Keita and the girl Aureli, and they went everywhere together. They were a happy, devoted family, and the children grew up strong and tanned by the sun from hours spent in the woods. Once they reached the age of ten they did indeed disappear into the forest for a month out of each year- it saddened the Woodsman and frightened him at first, but after they returned safe and sound he was able to draw a deep breath, accept the strangeness, and welcome them back home. Their happiness, however, was not meant to last forever. To be continued...

Quote: Deer AntlersUsually only male deer (bucks) have antlers. Once in a great while female deer (doe) will also have antlers. Contrary to popular belief, antlers are live tissue, composed of bone. Antlers are the fastest growing tissue in the animal kingdom. They grow at an average of 1 to 2 inches per week during development. Antlers have a constant blood and nerve supply, which is inside the velvet antler covering, while growing. The antlers are covered in velvet from the time that the antlers start growing in the spring, until the antlers stop growing in the late summer to early fall. When the antlers stop growing, they start to shed this velvet covering. Bucks use trees and shrubs to rub their antlers on, to help rub off this velvet. This is where the term "buck rubs", comes from. Researchers agree that antlers have evolved as a weapon to gain dominance over other bucks during breeding season. After the breeding season, bucks will shed their antlers. Antlers are usually shed in January or February. Antler shedding usually occurs earlier in northern states than southern states. A new pair of antlers will start growing in the spring. Another popular belief is that you can tell a deer''s age by the number of points on each antler, this is not a good way to age a deer. The only true way to tell a deer''s age is by its teeth. (See Age Determination) Buck 1/2 year old - It will have small bumps for antlers, these are called button bucks. Buck 1 1/2 years old - It will usually have one or two points on each antler, however they can have as many as 3 or 4 points on each side. The antlers are usually small in size. Buck 2 1/2 years old - It will usually have 3 to 5 points on each side. The antlers will usually be small to medium in size. Buck 3 1/2 years and older - It will usually have 4 to 6 points on each side. This is a mature buck and will usually have medium to large antlers. Some bucks never develop large antlers. Antler size is influenced by genetics and diet. Quote: Deer SightA deer''s eyes are located on the side of their head, which has advantages and disadvantages. The advantage is, deer are able to view 310 degrees around itself. This wide view allows the deer to be totally aware of the surroundings, even when it is staring straight ahead. The disadvantage is, deer cannot focus on one location with both eyes. This causes the deer to have very poor depth perception. Deer also see at a lower resolution than humans, and are believed to be color blind. Deer are nocturnal animals. Nocturnal means that deer can see at night, which is one of the reasons they are more active at night. Deer have more light-detecting cells in their eyes than humans, which aids their nocturnal vision. Like other nocturnal animals, their eyes shine when exposed to light at night. This is due to a reflection off a special membrane in their eye. It is believed that deer can also see in the ultraviolet light range, which is abundant during the earlier morning and late afternoon. This ability to see better, in early morning and late afternoon, helps to explain why deer are more active during these time periods. Quote: Deer HearingA deer''s hearing, being far superior to that of a human, can easily detect a faint sound. It is believed that a deer''s hearing is so sensitive that it can determine how far away a sound was made. A deer''s hearing is one of the reasons that it is so difficult to sneak up on it without being detected. The ears of a deer are vital in helping it avoid danger. When a deer hears a sound it will instantly turn its head and point its ears in the direction of the sound. The deer will focus all of its attention on smelling, looking and listening for any more signs of danger. If the deer doesn''t smell, see or hear any danger, after checking the area several times, it will usually go back to its normal routine. Quote: Deer SmellDeer have a highly developed sense of smell, it is one of their best weapons for detecting approaching danger. The moist nose of a deer, similar to that of a dog, allows the deer to pick up the faintest of odors. The odor particles, drifting by on the breeze, stick to the moisture on the deer''s nose and are then drawn into the olfactory organs. A deer can detect the odor of approaching danger several hundred yards away. This is why you should always try to hunt with the breeze in your face. info taken from: http://www.Whitetails.com
