Legend (c) Britain and Orasteele This story, I know, is true.
Many years ago a quiet woodsman lived alone on the edge of a forest that he loved most dearly. He loved the forest more than he could love any woman, for the forest was richer and full of life than any woman could ever be in his eyes. He spent all of his days rambling through the woods, protecting this sacred place, and caring for injured animals he happened to run across. He was a good and honorable man, always giving more than he would take, and he lived in harmony with the world.
Even so, he was still a man, and he found himself lonely away from the nearby villages. He tried again and again to find a wife or companion, but no one loved the forest enough to join him in his seclusion. Sad, the man sat in the moonlight and wished, in the deepest, quietest part of his soul, that he weren't so alone.
Now, the great Tree Spirit that lived in the center of the forest had long since been watching this man. She knew that he loved her and her children dearly, and that it was his faithful devotion to them that kept him so lonely. On a happy whim, she smiled, and decided to grant his wish.
"My children," she called through the forest, her rich voice echoing like a bell, "I have found this to be a good and honorable man. I do not wish him to be lonely- help me create for him a child."
From all corners of the forest came a brilliant array of creatures, each bearing a gift for the child. Rabbit brought swiftness, Raccoon brought generosity; from the Fish came joy, and from the Birds the gift of song. The turtles brought sweet patience, trailing behind the Snake who brought cunning- all of the animals were eager to please the man who had defended them so well.
Last of all came Deer, moving slowly because she was heavily pregnant. Butterfly rode on her delicate ear, keeping her company on the long trek; she looked around at the animals assembled there and nodded her head.
"The woodsman set my broken leg last spring, so that I was able to run again," she said clearly, and all of the animals stopped to listen. "I will give to him the twins that I carry, so that he may have twice the joy."
The Tree Spirit smiled sweetly and stroked her soft fur. "That is an honorable gift, and one filled with love," she said softly. Butterfly lifted himself from Deer's head and circled the clearing; when he came back down he carried light in his wings.
"I will give them the gift of light- the warmth of the Sun and the cool serenity of the Moon, so that they might always see the light in the hearts of others," he said joyously, and the Tree Spirit laughed.
"My children, they will truly be!" she sang, and gathered her companions close. "Now! We must give to him our gift."
* * * * *
The woodsman was out in the forest, enjoying the warmth of the summer sun, when he heard the strangest sounds coming from the brush. He stopped, tilting his head in confusion- he knew every sound the forest made, and that wasn't one of them. Carefully, he parted the branches around him, and came face to face with a mother deer and...two human babies?!
He drew in a sharp breath, and the mother looked up at him- but her eyes were gentle and she didn't seem startled at all. He stepped forward as he slowly pulled herself to her feet, but he was stopped by a hand on his shoulder. He turned to see who had invaded his forest as the mother deer reached out to nuzzle his hand.
He knew instantly that this had to be the Spirit he had felt watching him. She was beautiful, everything he loved about the forest made real- she smiled at him, and gestured to the babies.
"You will never again be alone," she whispered. "There is only one catch...when they are old enough, they will return to me for a month out of the year. Fear not, for they will always be your loving children." And then she was gone, as if she had never been.
* * * * *
The woodsman took the children home, followed faithfully by the mother deer, and raised them as his own. He named the boy Keita and the girl Aureli, and they went everywhere together. They were a happy, devoted family, and the children grew up strong and tanned by the sun from hours spent in the woods. Once they reached the age of ten they did indeed disappear into the forest for a month out of each year- it saddened the Woodsman and frightened him at first, but after they returned safe and sound he was able to draw a deep breath, accept the strangeness, and welcome them back home.
Their happiness, however, was not meant to last forever. More to come once Britain and I have finished the last few details ^_~

Parents:

Though Steele is listed as Aureli's legal guardian, she and Britain have been together as a couple for a while now. Jointly they are raising the twin legends with thier other children. Also Britain is currently expecting eek
Other Siblings:

Ladanya ~*~ Liotti ~*~ Cypris ~*~ Lilka ~*~ Freidrick ~*~ Ransom
Ladanya is as gentle as flower, but even flowers have thorns. If she's annoyed she becomes snappish. Lada is the oldest, giving her the most responsibility of all the kids. Lada is a Natural Orouh.
Liotti he's a CKY with a cold personality, though Aureli has certainly taking a liking to him.
Cypris and Lilka are both Zephirae Angels currently in Brit and Steele's care. Cypris is quite the little gentleman, very polite, and likes to take care of his little sister. Lilka is extremely shy- but once you get to know her she's VERY loud!
Freidrick is a Tsubasa child who sparkles almost as much as glitter. He loves everyone.
Ransom is Brit and Steele's only biological child. He was born thanks to the technology of the GMFC. He is currently the youngest child of Brit and Steele.
Extended Family:

Aoshi Newark is also a sibling to the current kids, who seem to alternate between adoring him and grating on his nerves. Aoshi is Brit's oldest son (currently attending a university) from her first marriage. Because he is 1/4 blackbird, magic doesn't work on him, so since his first meeting with Zaxzi at age 8 he's known about it. He's snarky but lovable.
UK Whitherspoon is Brit's younger cousin, one-time research assistant to Steele. He is flirty and very attractive, but serious about his work- he specializes in occult studies. Oddly enough, he knows FAR more about magic and Steele's real activities that Brit does >.<
Aunts and Uncles: these people can post at will in this diary heart PLEASE post in character! If you'd like to post here and you're not on the list, please contact me by PM first heart

Natural Orouh are (c) Eyael, Zephirae Angels are (c) Kinari, Pards are (c) Britain, Tahnee Children are (c) Reyn, and the Faelings are (c) Kit Kiana.
Housemates:

Zaxzi is a winged pard, and one of Brit's oldest companions on Gaia. He's sadistic, cynical, arrogant, and vain, but thankfully he's also very protective of the children and good at keeping them out of trouble....hopefully they won't learn anything from him. If you see this horse-sized Seer coming, it's best to stay out of range of his tail, wings, and acidic wit.
The Faelings

Chanti, Desaarh, and Kaori are faelings that Steele 'borrowed' from somewhere. They've become family, helping her out as much as they can! They love to play with the children. Chanti is very laid-back and calmly competant- which he needs, dealing with the trouble-making Desaarh! Kaori is very lady-like, and loves to talk to the girls in particular.
FyFy and Surline are the newest faelings- offspring of Desaarh and one of the faelings over at Ogre and Fyre's place. Now, how did that happen...?
The Tahnee
We started out with Fel and Jor...but recently Brit heard about an overflow at the Orphanage that simply could not be contained by it's walls. She volunteered to take in EIGHT of the children in need! Steele wasn't too happy about that, but eventually Brit hopes she'll understand how helpful and sweet they are.

Felrias and Jordain were adopted from the Tahnee Orphanage when Britain's oldest son, Aoshi, was about eight years old. They're more of associates than members of the family, since they both tend to be a little standoffish. Fel is the sweeter-tempered of the two, while Jor is more feisty. They act as tutors for the children- Fel tutors in the usual school subjects and a little bit of magic and Jor tutors in weapons (bow, shortsword, daggers). Vitree is one of the more recent additions to the family, but the 'girl' (don't let his girlyness fool you- he's most definately male) swiftly took over the other Tahnees once he arrived. He is charming and has a quick mind for command- no matter how odd he is, he keeps control.

Verrato, Tellesin, and Jisakin are a set of dark cousins who somehow managed to stay together at the Orphanage. They are a very quiet trio, but individual quirks (like Tell's love of the ocean and Jisa's bright chatter) become more evident once you get to know them. Verrato specializes in History, Tellesin specializes in Law and Business, and Jisa works with kitchen magic- making her an incredible cook.
One would think that Rikken would be the leader of this crowd, but this scientist prefers to stay in the background and give Vitree advice when needed. Even though Steele wasn't too happy about the new children she's been a little stuck with Wrath- this little pickpocket needs to either "learn not to steal the silverware or learn to do it RIGHT." He's lazy and doesn't like to work, but he's a pretty nice guy. No one's really certain whether Fore and Montreal are twins or lovers, but they're definately one of the two- they're never seen apart, and they work together seamlessly.

Atratus was a fandangle purchased by Orasteele to help teach Aureli and to care for her. He's bonded with the small child and would risk himself to be sure she was safe. So far he is working on teaching her basic motor skills such as walking and talking. There has been some incident of trouble with the two being bonded. Steels is still unsure about the kind of effect this will have on Aureli.

-Usually only male deer (bucks) have antlers. Once in a great while female deer (doe) will also have antlers. Contrary to popular belief, antlers are live tissue, composed of bone. Antlers are the fastest growing tissue in the animal kingdom. They grow at an average of 1 to 2 inches per week during development.
-Deer are nocturnal animals. Nocturnal means that deer can see at night, which is one of the reasons they are more active at night. Deer have more light-detecting cells in their eyes than humans, which aids their nocturnal vision. Like other nocturnal animals, their eyes shine when exposed to light at night. This is due to a reflection off a special membrane in their eye.
-It is believed that deer can also see in the ultraviolet light range, which is abundant during the earlier morning and late afternoon. This ability to see better, in early morning and late afternoon, helps to explain why deer are more active during these time periods.
-When a deer walks, they will place their back hoof in the track of their front hoof. If the second track falls slightly to the outside of the first, it is probably a doe because a doe's hind quarters are wider than her chest.
